  1. I am sold to my headset cannot fly without it it is Bose A20 and works the treat.
  2. Excuse me my ignorance but which one is straight through bolt? I suspect the one holding cylinder head to the block
  3. Good to see you here, perhaps try Gazelle forum George Savannah 5297
  4. Thank you very much for that I will take a hard a long look around engine , but I had it running last weekend after rubber change in the carburettors and did not notice any problem. Thanks Rick , I am pretty sure I was landing clean with no flaps , but now thinking about it I will not bet any money on it.
  5. Couple of weeks ago while coming to land in a slide slip (left rudder and right aerlon) I did hear even through my noise cancelling headset strange noise something like structural break somewhere from left side . I did think of aerlon break or controls break but could not identified any problem plane behaved as usual with no probnlem . Since then I did performed thorough inspection of struts attachment points inside the wing all the contorols including elevator and vertical rudder fin and could not find anything . Can anyone suggest next step please . It could be something as simple as something moved in my luggage compartment behind me (I had during this flight tie up steel spikes there, but would be easy way out )I know similar incident on the glider when aerlon linkage disengaged mid flight with similar noise and pilot lost control on one aerlon managed however to get the glider to airstip and landed OK
  6. Hi Chris , Last weekend I had same problem with my XCOM ( older model-2007) it was very embarrassing . Frustrated to the max took it out from my Savannah and it is in Brisbane now being tested by XCOM service guys. Awaiting some news this week George
  7. Thanks guys for excellent ideas, Today I have shorten my vent lines under the wings and cut them 45 deg angles facing forward and gues what the problem disappeared . Thanks for excellent advice.
  8. Thanks guys , I will shorten a bit my vent lines and cut them to 45 deg.
  9. In my Savannah there is no tank selector ( both tanks are linked together in the header tank - 6 liters behind the cabin) Vents shaped in 180 degrees U ( up from fuel cap and down through the wing to under the wing ) so I can see the end of the clear tube. Air flow bends them slightly backwards helping with the suction effect. I have noticed leak on uneven ground and once when I had a flat tyre. Happened only twice in flight , temperature difference may play some part in the problem as well , tanks mounted in the wing exposed to sun during taxing and perhaps warming up a bit. Thanks guys for the feedback. I am interested in stopping this without need to take the fuel cap off ( i.e. landing)
  10. Has anyone experienced fuel siphon through tank vent tube? It has happened to me twice , 1-st time long time ago while orbiting with full tanks shortly after take off. The second time 10 days ago , noticed strong fuel spray ( like a spray gun) out of the vent shortly after take off in level flight , I think it started on the ground while taxing on uneven ground and I have not noticed. Both times I tried to stop it banking to the left and orbiting for a while but did not work. The only way I managed to stop it to land and take the cap of the tank to break siphon action. Both times happened on the right tank, I think return line from the fuel pump may help to keep siphon event.
  11. I was in exactly same position as you are, decided to go for Savannah VG , you can find one in very good condition for 45-50 k$ . It is perfect plane for newly graduated pilot. Very forgiving , easy to maintain and cheap to run. On hind side a bit slow but if you can afford model S the latest one it is the best one. Of course there are many others , cannot comment have flown only Jabiru and Savannah. I have own VG model for almost two years and cannot fault it George
  12. I have older VG model and usually fly at 4400-4800 RPM , 65-75 kts My green arc is 74 kts and do not push it to yellow very often because of the rough weather in Tassie. Occasionally achieved 85 kts just above 5000 RPM. Climbs pretty well at 4800 RPM about 700-800 ft/min. Any comments on flying in rough weather speed wise?? George
  13. You are on right course, 1 hour once a week is the minimum. If you can afford more you will get your licence quicker. Average is 20-25 hours to get your licence if you are not older than 25 . Add one more hour for each year after 25. And of course dedicated instructor is a must. When you get your licence try to fly every week , it is pretty good target taking into consideration other commitments, money and weather. I clocked up 300 hrs in 20 months but had a few long flights taking time off work. As we say happy landings George
  14. Yes it is windy and weather is main factor in my flying , can change very quickly. Flying around Big Tasmanian island could be a bit of challenge. There are some high mountains around here even compared to Snowy, specially high when clouds are low. The other thing I have to watch is engine temperature ( could be too low) and icing ( this is high on my weather checks) Also controlled air space around Launceston and Hobart don not make it easy. Saying all that I love it and keep building my experience . I take some photos but not sure how post them here Thanks for the reply George
  15. Have done it about 3 months ago , it was quite an experience flying it the first time. Opted to go above the clouds c.a. 7500 ft , it was nice to see cloud's like a cotton wool isolation from cold and grey Bass Straight waves ( I could see them every so often but did not spent much time looking at them, just pretended that they were not there) Descended to 3500 ft ( below clouds) at cape barren island , but could see Tasmania from there. Support I got from from Melbourne Traffic was great and reassuring. Ever since been flying every weekend around Tasmania and enjoying it
  16. I will be flying my Savannah to Tasmania in a month or so , moving there for good. I would appreciate any tips , advice from experienced pilots, I am planning to fly soth of Melbourne from Snowy Mountains , refuel and have a break and than fly over Flinders Island and land on Tasmanian land , most likely Bridport or George Town . Thanks in advance
  17. I believe it was born in 2009 reg. 52-97 . It has got 340 hrs on the clock and I am very happy with it . I am still learning about bits and pieces , recently refitted spill trays under carburators and replaced radiator rubber couplings. Once I figure out how to attached photos I will . Regards George
  18. Thank you Guys I am impressed with the quality of the information. I found this website yesterday and it is good to listein to others. George
  19. Thank you very much Rick for the idea , I was thinking about this , someone suggested weight attached to the tail , but not sure about the stress on the fuselage. My problem is suspicious noise from the front gear`while taxing . I decided to have a good look to make sure that there is no problem there.
  20. Could someone point me to right direction , how to support aircraft with front suspension removed. I have not built it so my knowledge is limited do not want to make any mistakes Thanks
