  1. Good luck mate. Did my first solo I think it was 1 1/2 months ago. Trust me you will do fine, If your instructor thinks you are up for it, you are ! I was nervous when he first said it's time, but by the time you start the plane back up, do your calls, wait for clearance you are still a bit nervous but once you push that throttle forward all the nerves go your training kicks in. I was actually enjoying it , didn't want to come down :} It was like any other flight {until you look left and there is no one there !} I think I was more nervous doing all of the radio calls !!!! Cheers
  2. Hi Oz' Not sure what Tecnam you are moving too, the Tecnam we are talking about is a Golf 1oo . The difference I notice straight away is the view, it feels more open, so when it feels more open you feel more comfortable and relax, the more relaxed obviously you will fly better. It's lighter on the controls, landing is a bit slower, no flap landing are a breeze. Stalls are quite different. The Jab is so benign, where as the Tec' will drop a left wing every time. That scared the crap out of me the first time we did stalls in the Tec' after doing them in the Jab'. the only other thing is there is no carb' heat on the Tec', one thing less to think about on landing. I love the Tecnam and I think you will as well. Cheers Rick
  3. Yeah normally do my lessons on a Saturday as well. Let you know next time I'm out there.
  4. I don't think the owner was paying any bills!!!! That may be part of the problem
  5. Yeah , Sydney Jabiru flying school. You're right it shut down at Xmas and the CFI wasn't even told he found out through someone else, so all my lessons up to now were in a school that was shut !! Going across to Soar Aviation at Bankstown.
  6. Thanks for the advice . Yeah it is glued to my headset. It only there as a training aid. I should be able to get rid if it soon. I've been wearing it for all my lessons when the instructor is there, I video it because I only go for a lesson once a month, Long time between drink, so the night before I go for my next lesson I watch the previous lesson as a re-capper. When I get back in the aircraft it's as if I was just in it. especially handy when swapping between planes as often as I do. Flaps and choke are in completely different spots in the Jab and Tecnam. Cheers Rick
  7. Hi Parkway These are thing things I was told to study and maybe in the exam. Aerodrome symbols and markings Right of way Flights over water VMC for different classes of airspace How low can you fly to the ground Privileges and limitations of pilot certificate Smoking near aircraft Drugs and alcohol Max operating altitude for recreational aircraft Last light requirements Prohibited, restricted and danger areas Low flying Aerobatic flights Control airspace separation Airspace classes Where to find airfield information Flight above clouds Formation flying VTC chart symbology Accidents and incidents Carriage of passengers Transponder codes Aircraft eligible to fly in controlled airspace see and avoid. Hope this helps. Cheers Rick
  8. Woops, ! I put in the wrong book, it should have been "Aviation Theory Centre" BAK book , there were a lot of questions from Chapter 5 Air law: rules and procedures as well as the Ra Aus "Operations manual issue 7 "
  9. I only did my test a little while ago, most of my questions come from the "Aviation Theory Centre" Flight training manual and the Ra Aus "Operations manual issue 7 "
  10. Thanks for the copy/paste of the letter that had no relevance to my question. My question was "DO YOU" {your opinion! not CASA's } think it prudent to include a flat tyre, a crook radio, carburetor flooding, shorted cigarette lighter socket" etc. That was my question. Your statement was that your thought CASA's action were prudent. Oh by the way I didn't realise CASA had put limitations on Ford, International Harvester, Chrysler and Leyland. Thanks for enlightening us all on that fact ?????
  11. Turbo' Do you think it was "Prudent"!! of CASA to limit to operations of Jabiru powered aircraft citing 46 incidents that included a flat tyre, a crook radio, carburetor flooding, shorted cigarette lighter socket, incompetent maintenance? {all taken from an article in sportpilot } I also read somewhere they also counted people running out of fuel. Do you think by imposing these restriction and endangering a small Australian company is fair? If you feel it's fair then, what about use there same criteria incidents for Rotax and Dmotor and see how they rate ? Cheers Rick
  12. Well in my short flying time I've flown the jab 160 +170 , the tecnam golf and foxbat {just once } I think I'll be going across to Soar Aviation they have the foxbat as well so I sort of know what I'm in for , but yes it will be a backwards step having to familiarise myself and getting comfortable enough to go solo again. Then again I'm in no rush to get my certificate just want to be the best pilot I can be and be safe doing it . My Fav' is the tecnam, I love it . It's a joy to fly and I love the visibility
  13. Hi mate. Did you ever find out the new charges for landing notes the aerodrome has had it's upgrade? What about hangarage fees, is that the council or private hangars?
  14. Yeah , you are right he said he did see my catching it and said what I did was fine, thanks foe the advice, always handy to know more options. Thanks for all the comments guys. Might be a while before I get back up, Just found out my flying school has shut up shop My instructor is going to see about getting me into the other school at Bankstown.
  15. Yes your are right I did go further out, I was following a foxbat and I found myself catching up to them, so I slowed up and went a little bit more right than normal, I had never come across that situation before, by the I turned onto base there was a good spacing. Hope I did the right thing? Cheers Rick
  16. I'd like to see their video of the them flying with the 130hp in it. Oh what about 2 of them side by side reenacting a scene from TOPGUN! Oh yeah. It's handy only having 1 seat seeings "Goose " is dead.
  17. How good is the cockpit visibility. A little better that the jab!
  18. A 2 seat version would be nice! I wonder how many have be made and how safe it is.
  19. Hi guys I was surfing the net for kit planes as a lot of us do and found this little gem I LOVE IT ! The name of the kit is" SF-1 Archon Aerosports gr" I think I have attached a pic and he is a cockpit vid' Please someone build one and let me know what it's like :} here are the specs' Wing Span : 7.25 m Length : 8.00 m Height : 2.20 m Net Weight : 205 kg Gross Weight : 300 kg Fuel Tank Capacity : 45 lt Engine Type* : 40-130 hp Propeller Diameter : max. 1,60 m Stall Speed : 65 km/h VNE : 210 km/h VNO : 180 km/h VA : 155 km/h VFE : 110 km/h Load Factor : +4 -2 G Take-off Distance : 200 m Wing-detach Time : 30 min. *The standard engine mount is for the Rotax 503, 532, 582 engines. Estimated build time for the SF1 Archon kit is about 500 hours Can't find a price. Cheers Rick {sorry still laughing at it, but I want one !!! } I just notice the engine type that can be fitted 40 to 130hp , big difference between the two????? the 4ohp must just float you around just above stall speed.
  20. So after first solo, what happens then? Do you then do solo touch and goes? I just have one of those Chinese copy GoPros I think it cost me $45 from eBay works a treat. Because I only go once a month I video every flight so before each lesson I watch the last video as a recap. So long between flights you forget stuff I find, so the video is great for me. Plus my wife likes to watch them when I come home. See what she is paying for :)
  21. Nicely done mate ! did you video it? Yeah its a great feeling. Only now come down of the high. I've had a few lessons out there because of the whole Jabiru Engine thing. We can't fly our Jab's out of Bankstown.
  22. My calls and email was at a guess about 6 months ago Allan

  24. LOL Oh yeah, I was rocking away in the hammock in the backyard today with the flight still going through my head !!!!!!!!!!!!
