  2. Isn't this always the joy? trying to decipher all the info! I just checked my flight manual and it states 75% power at 2800 rpm? (maybe I should have done that prior to the post  )I can see from the detailed use of the calculator that this in fact is not 75%? I am sure there were others at the maintaining your Jabiru session that would backup the recommended cruise statement from the speaker but then again maybe I didnt hear correctly. its certainly happened before
  3. I am of course talking about the 2200 engine and not the 3300. Cruise for the 3300 is 2850 I believe and certainly I cruise the J230 at this. As for exceeding VNE that is a bit of a problem but not one that I have in the J160
  4. Interesting comment about not cruising above 2850. At the Narromine forums it was pointed out that cuising below 2950 was harmful to the engine and would make it run to lean! I believe the cruise listed in the manual is 3050 at 75% which is what Jab owners were told to cruise at. I certainly changed my cruise setting for the return flight from Narromine and sat between 2950 and 3000 (I couldnt quite bring myself to push it that bit harder)
  5. I used the pilot shop at Parafield for mine.

Adjust the sender. They said that sometimes they need a slight adjustment. You just turn it 1/4 turn and not more light flicker. You can then test that it will come on by switching off your fuel while the engine is running and you should see the light come on pretty quickly. At a flicker first then solid after a little bit.
  7. Five missing after plane ditches By Jodie Munro O'Brien and Michael Wray April 03, 2008 03:56pm Article from: </IMG> Font size: + - Send this article: Print Email EMERGENCY services have been alerted after a light plane ditched in the ocean after issuing a distress call. The mayday was received from an aircraft over Brampton Island off Mackay at 2.15pm. An RACQ CQ rescue helicopter spokeswoman said the aircraft - carrying a pilot and four passengers - was believed to have ditched into the water 100m from the island.

Cheers Alan, I dont have that problem in my J160. It was one of the first to come out and has bubblers in the wing which are a much better system. Although they are still only useful when you are on the ground.

Alan, what is the red light you are talking about? fuel pressure? If so you might need to adjust this slightly. I certainly had this problem when I first picked up my J160. 1/4 turn fixed the problem
  10. Yes and it also has the remarkable quality of being just as strong as it was before it was bent!
  11. There you go there's my thing that I have learnt for today
  12. I wouldn't of thought so. You can obviously tow with ultralight registered (or at least RAAus) aircraft but I was not aware of any towing of Hang-gliders.
  13. A hang-glider being towed by an ultralight? http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,23357331-5005962,00.html
  14. No just drew a line and followed it with a hacksaw blade actually. Then a light sanding. You could use something more elaborate I guess but it was all I had on hand a the time.
  15. All, Maybe reading this service letter from Jabiru may help in the decision. http://www.jabiru.net.au/Service%20Bulletins/Airframe%20Files/JSL003-1(fuel%20tank%20sealent).pdf
  16. None what so ever, oh except that I found they made a good guide for fitting the cooling ducts :)
  17. Yes I did cut away a small piece as per the diagram and I also have the newest cowl and the difference was only small if any. But as I said I have never had an issue with oil or CHT being anything but in the middle of the green.
  18. Hi john, I have done the mods although I also had no issues with temperatures. In fact far from it. I have even done a couple of glider tows with no overheating issues. Unfortunately as my aircraft is cross hired I needed to comply. The result! it still runs cool in all conditions. The work didn't take long at all about 30 mins or so and it was pretty easy to do. 19. Well you were right of course. After talking to RAAus and back with Jabiru I questioned the misleading entry on the website saying that the props were authorised. The response was that they were the only props that were authorised for the Jab Engines but they were not authorised for the Certified/LSA Aircraft. Jabiru are talking with Sensenich as well as designing there own. Interesting thing though is that they have not been looking at the ground adjustable! I pointed out that most people who had brought a J230C Glider Tow option would be looking for this option. Seems it is now at least on the table. For how long remains to be seen. No expected delivery time was given for either of the props but I would presume it would be a while.
  20. Has anyone heard the rumours about he J170 LSA with the 3300 Engine?
  21. Agreed and understand guys, I wont say who I spoke to at Jabiru (They should have been able to answer correctly) but I pointed out those obvious points and that I was talking about a certified aircraft that was being used for Hire/Fly/Training and Glider towing. I still got a positive response. It was then I went for the confirmation from RAAus to verify but I haven't chased it back up again. I might do that today and see what response I get. Obviously I am expecting to get the negative response but it will be interesting to see.
  22. Interesting I thought that Jabiru had approved the Sensenich and MT props. It certainly reads that way from the Jabiru web site. I also rang and checked and got the response that Sensenich had done lots of testing and it was ok to use it. I did call RAAus to see if it could be used on the certified aircraft and someone was going to ring me back but it did not happen. The conversation I had was that if Jabiuru are saying you can use it then it is ok (LSA). The big question I guess is are they saying you can use it or just saying you can use it :-)
  23. Hi Ian I would definitely be interested, a J230 would be good as well
