1. I wonder if the 32mm Bing as fitted to very early Jab Engines might do better at altitude? anyone still have the smaller Carby fitted?

  2. I run Esso super unleade in my jab as its the only Mogas around here with no ethanol in it, its quite inexpensive now......... fat lot of good that is to me

I havn't had the jab engine long enough to get a consistant LPH Figure but it's about 13LPH, certainly nowhere near what jab says it is..I run about 2600-2700rpm cruise

Oh forgot to say its in a draggy airframe (Easy Raider tail dragger)

  3. I would have gone flying this morning, it is always so beautiful with the low cloud on the hills after rain. The motorbike was almost as much fun.

Been a long time since I have seen an 80'S RMX, I havnt had a 2 stroke bike since my 89 KX250, the husky 701 I have is too heavy for the woods and the WR250 Yam is just gutless.......mmmmmmmmmm smokers

    (sorry for thread drift)

  4. Covid19 has basicly stopped Private flying in the UK, its not a matter of distancing rather the fact that if you were to have any sort of incident/accident you would be tying up an emergency crew and hospital workers when they are allready working beyond capacity....basicly it would be very selfish to go for a jolly whilst nurses and doctors are dying on the job.

It's not actually a law as yet and doesnt seem like it needs to be as every pilot I know is doing the right thing anyway (its a shame as the weather is great now and before the virus we had six months of crap unflyable weather but its hardly a sacrifice when put against what some are going through here in the UK)

  5. About 5 years ago now, I was flying from Plockton in north west Scotland intending to get to Isle of Bute before dark, the weather closed in and with visibility over the water getting poor I decided to make a precautionary landing, by this time light was dim and had rain on the screen, I turned back towards land and selected what looked like the only bit of level field around...it was only as I flared to Land that I could see the grass was a tad long

Picture taken the following morning, safe landing but how to get back out?

Well the Farmer was very helpfull and after 2 days spent in the Local Pub, he returned to tell me his neighbour had cut me a 200 metre strip so I was able to fly off and continue my journey back to Wales

I didnt know at the time, but the rocky hill in the background is an Ancient hill fort believed to be the capital of the ancient kingdom of Dál Riata

  7. Ello Ken, welcome to the group

I have a 2.2 gen 2 in an Easy Raider taildragger Microlight, was just getting into the groove with it after 7 years with a 912 powered Skyranger then the world went to shit.

Spending the down time researching and planning.

Depending on the length of the shutdown I might remove my engine and do give it a going through including replacing flywheel bolts

Hoping the future brings better days

    Stay safe matey

  8. Propellorhead, a good laff

    Vulcan 607, gripping stuff

On a negative note just finished reading Mike Busche's book on engines and whilst it has some good info, it could quite easily be a third or even half the 500 pages he used up repeating himself and telling anecdotes about how great he is at solving stuff.

    Not worth the money IMHO

  9. It's a pretty daunting task, but the plane was flying low and nearly at the stall and they knew they were going in if they didn't keep the engine going. There's a nacelle and struts to lean against. There have been many sceptics so you are not alone.. The discovery of the glass sorted it out . That was many years later when the replica was being built, if I recall correctly. Nev

Eh?, are you saying someone in an aeroplane flying low and near the stall got out and did an oil change?

    edit sorry about the confusion

  10.

If Rotax didnt want their engines being rebuilt then why make available all the parts necessary to do it. If that was the case only specific Rotax people would have access to the parts

Actually they DON'T make ALL the parts available unless you are rotax approved.

  11. I had a D2 for 3 years, the first one had a faulty sensor, it was replaced under warranty after a lot of to and froing, the replacement worked, but the screen was not readable in bright whiteout type conditions, you know when there is low sun and poor viz with little to no horizon, somehow I never trusted it and I wouldnt buy anything from Dynon again they seem to be happy to blame problems on the user

  12. Hello, I fly a Skyranger Classic from a farm strip near Abergavenny, Been flying Microlights about 5 years so still wet behind the ears relatively speaking, but I fly as often as possible and love it.

Unlikely I'll get to meet any of you in person, but I extend a virtual handshake and wish you all calm skies and safe journies
