Getting a higher speed from the same engine will always

    Increase fuel consumption.

Just get a different airframe .

BD 5 microJET will lower consumption for a faster ride 350 Mph

As in the James Bond film " octopussy ".

You missed skippys point. I almost did too. If you have exactly the same engine in two very different aircraft (say a Zenith 701 and a Sling, both with Rotax 912uls), then if one aircraft is just much more streamlined it will go faster for the same fuel consumption per hour. Then if it's going faster for the same fuel consumption, you are flying for a shorter period, so total consumption is lower for the faster plane.

The drone footage at the beginning was superb. Pity it couldn't keep up with the aircraft but then that was part of the clip when it came back for the landing taxi and stop.

I actually think he deliberately slowed down for the shit. A friend of mine regularly posts 4k footage from his racing drone, and I think that goes over 200km/h. Not saying this particular drone is capable of those speeds, but if you wanted more close footage you could use a faster drone for the takeoff sequence, and something else for other footage. You'd need to, racing drones don't run for all that long 😄

I don't think I said it was a sim. The shadow would not be there as it was, in a sim. Nice fin and rudder on that plane. Makes it easier to control.  Nev

    I guess you didn't.

A Sim would have all shadows in the right place though, they use realistic physics. If your PC isn't the latest and greatest, shadows is one of the first things to turn off.

There have been a few wheels up landings of late. Another bit of stupid reporting. First they say correctly the pilot was circling burning off fuel, then they interview a local and quote the statement "I knew he was dumping his fuel' which of course he wasn't as they had already said. Then again accuracy is not a trait of modern reporting.

Yes and No. The journalist reported the correct thing, right? And then an interviewee voiced an opinion which is incorrect. Perhaps the only thing might have been to reiterate that the journalists statement was correct not the bystanders.

  5. Your ebay listing says CCW. If you are careful you can put some jumper leads on it and see which way it spins. Be careful though as it will jump when it spins. Unless you carefully mount the lugs in a vice. But don't clamp the carcass (body) in a vice since I think it is permanent magnet, you don't want to crack them. Does your old starter work at all? You can do the same with that and see if they both spin in the same direction.

There was a post from Aero Sport the US Bushcat distributor; apparently they got told on 8 April when they were at Sun N Fun. GAP only got told a short while ago. Nobody seems too impressed.

Apparently they also make parts for a variety of aero manufacturers and this part of their business (including Bushcat parts) will continue.

Yes, although I think they actually only make parts for their own aircraft. That's what they say they'll continue to do. I might have to snap up an undercarriage, just in case...

  7. Yep. And the other Bushcat builders were saying just do the clamps up tighter 😄

    I used 03-0010 and 03-0007 universal and 2 X  02-0951 Datsun 120y. Connectors came with the kit (25mm!)

Hi Danny - I hear you

Note that the coolant (17mm ID) from Floods is 85.80/m + delivery.

Gates Silicone (16mm ID) $16 -$28.50/m + delivery from UK or Australia about $38/m + delivery (some are offering free)

Then there is all that good stuff from Mackay ( should be cheaper again).

Personally, if I can shave $500 or so off an estimated  $1,500+ (from RoTAX)  5 year rubber replacement, using good quality materials, I will be very happy.

Convenience can come at quite a cost - as always your choice😈

Oh, what I'm saying is our local lad is NOT convenient! So now I see some prices, Gates is cheaper and probably more convenient! I already use Gates rubber on the radiator hoses. That was an issue with the kit (they supply 27mm!). Although I got the different bends etc from various suppliers. Again, if I  can avoid calling someone on the phone, the guy with the shopping cart on their website gets the sale.

  9. I was particularly interested in the 17mm.  So you are saying it will be about $160 from the rotax supplier? You know I'm on board with getting equivalent quality from other suppliers if it's cheaper (and easier) but this hose in particular doesn't look to be much of a savings? Mind you , I've only emailed the local rotax once and didn't get a response. Almost as important as price is ease of purchase for me. It's the 21st century- if I can't just click on something and put it in a cart and buy it, that supplier goes down the list. It's why I buy so much from Aircraft Spruce. I guess if the 17mm hose is about the same price I'd still buy it from someone that I don't have to ring.

GIVE ME CONVENIENCE OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!!

  10. Rotax 912 water/oil temp sensor (the more recent version, not the older style)

You can get the vdo part, exactly the same part, but it's not in a roTAX baggy. That's maybe half the price of a Rotax labelled vdo sensor.

Or you can get the aftermarket version, available in Australia for about sixty bucks including postage 🙂 mine is working well so far and has good reviews.

NOx has been reduced in motor vehicles since the 1976 model year in Australia via the Australian Design Rule system and had been reducing to 1992 when major reductions started because it is one of the causes of Lung Cancers.

Since 1992 in Australia we have reduced NOx in new vehicles by 99.4% on the 1992 figures.

We pay a lot of money for this on new vehicles, and it would be interesting to see if there were any statistics on a parallel reduction in lung cancers.

In any case, it's not good to breath so having it reduced is a good thing, no?

"If" and "Might" but the prime aim is Aviate. Don't lose control of the plane. #1.    Nev

Damn straight. If there's an emergency, I'm aviating the hell out of that plane. Communicate is third on the list.

Still not sure how it relates to this news story though. Was there a mention of a distress call?
