"I always gently grab hold of the vent and give it a gentle shake to make sure it is firm. If it moves, then undo it and check that the inner o-ring is properly seated in its groove before re-tightening.
Have others noticed this?"
Yes. "Wiggle the fuel caps" has become a part of my walk around. I think that the problem is eased by using a T bar type Allen key available at Repco, rather than the standard
one supplied with the air craft. I am also 6' 5, so that helps looking over the wing.

motzartmerv, post: 230283, member: 836"]Sounds like you got a Friday arvo job aswel.
No, not so much Friday arvo, but a culture of ignorance and "cheap is best". My written advice at the time was to employ a quality manager who could stop an order
being shipped because it failed a written check list to internal standards.... At this stage, late 2007, Jabiru had an order board of A4 sheets that went for 25? meters floor to ceiling. This letter was never answered.
What did I know? This time there were 3 orders on the order board. 24-7595 is better finished than 24-5083 where you can see, although flying back through rain from Bundaberg caused a 30cm by 1 cm paint strip on the leading edge to de-laminate...... poor preparation on the gel coat according to the paint expert that fixed it. This repair was partly funded by Jabiru. Currently I am waiting to go up to Murray Bridge to find out why the autopilot is not talking to the EFIS. Probably a computer type connector adrift that needs a cable tie in an aircraft application.

"Yes, that's the best course of action. Go to the source."
I agree, but a starting point would be good. I'll do the leg work with Jabiru, but a reference point would be nice to start from. Yours is the first
comment about this "issue" that I have seen to date in years of looking. I wrote Jabiru a letter about the bad wiring methods they used in 2007,
for example. This is an area that I do know about.
Nothing seems to have changed. At least it seems that you might have a result here.

"In my opinion the only way to ensure this doesnt damage the certification in your case, in absense of anything on their website, is to ask J that question via a letter or email. You can then rely on the answer and have it to gointo the maintenance logbook where you document the action you took."
I agree. This is the start of a new dance..... from memory, the Senscich? prop was an option on the order form for 24-7595. At that stage I had just sold my company and the Dynon autopilot was the main aim ..... good for a man with a weakening bladder.. so the extra cost did not seem a good idea at the time. Wrong, Marcus. 24-7595 is very much better built than 24-5083, in all the many areas that it pissed me off in. Fit, finish, wiring crimping... particularly that crimping multi strand wires ffs , door pockets, glue everywhere, door locks, starting... lots of things.
Both aircraft fly well, but it would be nice to see " 120 knots at 20 litres per hour, rather than 115 knots a 24 litres, or 120 knots at 35 litres before I go off the boil... ....

And it works ?..... keeping the LSA classification too ?... could you please give me some Jabiru part numbers please? The lack of "120 knots @ 2900 rpm" has always pissed me off . It was raised on the handover flight with the test pilot at Jabiru for 24-7595. The "at 20 litres per hour" I gave up on when I bought 24-5083 in 2007 ......No, It is 24 rego'd.. It can be done if Jabiru supply it for you. I think they caved under the pressure of me and the engineer abusing them about the quality of their fence paling props.Marcus

Do a full run up including mag checks on a new start up after every full stop. Also do a mag check at turn off itself after a run.

I've got significant air leaks around both front doors of my "new" 2010 J230-SP (factory built U.S. model).Things I've noticed:
Both doors seem to fit identically. When each door is securely closed, the gap between the door and the fuselage is even all the way around, and the edge of the door is flush with the fuselage everywhere EXCEPT for the lower rear corner. Beginning approx. 4" (100 millimeters) below the door lock, and extending around the corner to the bottom center, edge of the each door protrudes approx 1/8" - 3/16" (3.0 - 4.5 mm) beyond the fuselage. With little effort, I can push each door inward to make it flush with the fuselage but, of course, they pop out as soon as I let go.
The upper half of each door frame is fitted with a piece of 3/8" x 3/8" (9.5mm x 9.5mm) white EPDM "D style" weather stripping that runs from just above the upper hinge runs, along the top, and down to the striker plate. There is no weather stripping fitted to the bottom half of each door frame or anywhere on the doors themselves. And when looking from the inside with the doors closed, outside light is visible around each door except where the EPDM weather stripping is installed. I found one reference to weather strip "glued around all edges of the door" in the J230/J430 "Aircraft Service Manual" but nothing else in any other Jabiru documents as to what is normal.
I would appreciate knowing whether this is a common issue, what weather stripping came "standard" on other planes, and what modificatios -- if any -- other Jab owners have made to reduce or eliminate leaks around their doors.
Thanks!
(Photo of my front door and door frame attached).

Just realised that I am suffering from small flight syndrome... The delivery flights from Bundaberg to Murray Bridge in 2007 and 2010 were the longest in terms of distance. The 2007 one with 24-5083 was overnighting in Coonabarabran (light), Narromine (fuel), Hay(wee), YMBD. The 2010 one was intended to be a one day exercise, but WX rules, OK? Fueled 24-7595 at Narromine then stopped at Hay to ease the Jabiru back then we were forced to land (WX) at Pinnaroo and overnight before scud running back to YMBD next day. The autopilot on 7595 makes taking a pee possible without entering into a spiral dive....
The most interesting flight was around Lake Eyre when in flood in 2009. YMBD to Manninghill to Maree to William Creek. I am told they have sealed the strip at William Creek now. Good place for Avgas and a beer.
The most succulent was a crayfish trip to Robe/Kingston.

I like the twin Microair set up on 24-7595. It allows monitoring on 4 channels at once, transmitting on one with a clear indication of what is what. What are the best radios and transponders to fit to a LSA ?The Com1-Com2 switch allows a simple switch to either radio. The transponder is in the middle. Look at the 24-7595 gallery.

The William Creek pub. In the middle of absolutely nowhere.... Interesting collection of rocket bits from the desert. from when Aus had a space program..:Norton:..Av gas bowser too. Lot of GA stuff when I went last year as Lake Eyre was in flood...

Gidday. I have a complete glass cockpit. Look at my avatar. Avmap, Efis, ems , Radio1, Transponder, Radio2 and Autopilot. The avionics switch is turned on after engine start, and is left on. It just works. I do keep a battery smart charger on in the hangar to maintain full charge, but that is it. Check the alternator.

Came with the flight planning pack that CASA gave out at a travelling seminar a month or so back. The vacuum mount affair sticks nicely, and on your knee it is out of the direct sun...:big_grin:Thanks for the note on the GPS...but what I want to know is how to go about getting those free kneeboards you mentioned?Marcus

Been flying behind an AVMAP for a while. See my Avatar... This sort of thing, no town etc. is just why I bought a 7inch Recreational flying GPS and the maps that go with it.....It gives you the situational awareness of a paper map, without the clutter in a j230 cockpit. Use one of those free kneeboards that CASA gave away and the mounts supplied with the kit. Still carry the neatly folded paper map as a backup..... all good.

My 230C had a very crappy set of doors, cheap ally catch, poor locking....poor finish in fact. My new 230D has pin type locks and gutters over the edges, a better hinge set up... The finish is very much better too. Details with the engine starting and oil cooler air ducting were adressed during 2007-10 when I owned 5083. 7595 is a much better aeroplane, but the new owner of 5083 is pleased with it too.

7 inch, all bells and whistles too. I agree with BlackRod...... A good quality adjustable mounting thingy too

Answer to a prayer..... get rid of the paper clutter to the rear cavern. The screen covers are a good idea, likewise Android and Maptrax..... Some sort of indicative map pricing would be good... put me down for a 7 inch display one.

Same experience.... J230C, 12 months old, poor starting , mostly fixed by altering the starter earth leads in the Jabiru AD.

Yes, the one on my 230c lasted about 100 hrs. Died at a permanent 3500 ft..... must be something they do. Not cheap either for Chinese rubbish. Waiting for the new one on my 230D to fail.

Exhaust cap....
The aeroplane comes out of the box with various covers and plugs, all with "remove before flight tags". The exhaust pipe gets a dinky little red cap that blocks it effectively, stopping moist air from condensing in the exhaust system as it cools. My new aircraft came also with the world's most expensive baseball cap, but that is another story.....i_dunno

perhaps....
Perhaps... The card is just a compact flash card, the larger one with the proper contacts. The issue for me is that I am not computer literate enough to know if a simple copy will duplicate all of the contents... The real issue is that the EKP4 mount in the Jabiru dash meant removing the dash itself to get to the card, ...

Mr Adam Finn is no longer the RA-Aus Technical Manager.....
This is not good... Adam used to do the spanner work on 24-5083 for me. He was a totally decent bloke and a good mechanic too.
What is going on in RaAus that they/we lose people like this?
