FIXED, at least for now...
Thanks Deskpilot and Captain on this site, and Ian who I pm'd and spoke to.
AVMAP, who have a poor internet "rating" were actually very helpful via email
indeed. ;) all of you.
Reading the CF content into a PC, then loading it back into another new CF did
the trick. The only thing is, its not clear why. :;)5: I am an electronic engineer
and Italian and electronic don't go well together in the same sentence. Remember
Marconi you counter....

Thanks Captain. Ian ;), from whom I purchased the AVMAP, has already spoken
to EDMO. They both advise me to contact AVMAP as the thing is under warranty
which I have done. NATFLY is late March. Time enough.

I took the AVMAP out of 24 5083 and replaced the DC line in with a set of
charged NiMh batteries, as you can. Thing would boot up occasionaly.
:) Cleaned the CF socket with Electrolube switch cleaner and now it won't
even do that.:yuk:
Really only leaves the AVMAP or its associated CF. Just ordered a CF reader and
a virgin CF. Will try and read the CMAP one that came with the AVMAP. Will try
and update map and software from web site. Will still try a waranty claim , but
NATFLY is end March

Yes, took out the compact flash, reinserted it several times to mechanicaly clean
the thing. (Emailed AVMAP and they are talking to me at least.)
Cleaning it made it work erratically for a while:confused:. Tried a little switch cleaner on the contacts of the CF. Now it does not work at all. :;)2: Now in the process of buying some CF memory and a CF reader with the thought of copying the CF in the AVMAP then updating the software and map via the web. Plan B is to spend
$ 2200 on a new AVMAP before NATFLY:angry:. Italian and electric are not words to be used lightly together. 5083 is rather sad right now, dash all loose and a big hole where the AVMAP was

message DEVICE not PRESENT Please verify. What the . Has anyone any
idea what I can do? I have emailed Avmap, but they are notorious if you search

From memory the j160 mtow is 544 kg. So 20 kg packed behing the seats should
be fine with these weights. My j230 has a lot of placards tell tell you to do this.

Yes, pulling the prop through, and feeling each compression stroke is a
good guide to the health of the motor. You can feel all 6 cylinders on the Jab
and I think that it distributes the oil that remains around again too :)

You all sound like a knowledgeable and a nice lot! The pity of it is that whatever
you do, you elect a politician. And you end up carrying them on your back, as in
the fairy story. I've met a few of the previous Labour lot in a previous life ; clever
and able; Barry Jones, Button; Amanda Vanstone from the Libs. In the end its
about the party line and staying around for 8 years for the indexed pension. Real
life is my son flying me down to Vctor Harbor in my j230 this morning and then
coming back and having to vote (penalties provided at law). HoHum

Yup !
Soon we will have a man with a red flag walking in front of our horseless
carriages. Worked for the Victorians. :yuk: That will keep the taxpayers safe. Paying
taxes, that is. Having a problem seeing how to it in the air, but someone nodoubt
has solved the problem for us already.

I hesitate to comment, given my total lack of experience, but I do own a j230c.
Jabiru have always offered a lot of aeroplane for the $. It is 24 registered
RA aus, flown on a RA aus certificate, 600 Kg LSA certificated. All the glass
cockpit stuff comes complete in the box. The only option I added was an angle of
attack pitot. Photo of the dash in the gallery section. Two radios and a
transponder is about it, no subwoofer though :)

If you are heading to Mt Barker, then learn at Murray Bridge. Its closer, has two
RaAus :) & a GA flying school

I am also 6'6 and about 110 kg. Nice mixture of units there. Fit pretty well
into the j230. Learnt on a LSA 55 jab though. That was squeezy.:)

Thanks Geoff, I'll look at the Dynon web site again...
Yes, the brighter display makes sense. Also the D180,
thanks.

This is what I like about this forum. I re-read Alan’s post properly and found the
comment regarding options. I have an order in for a j230 with the glass dash thing.
It is due in about 5 months. I looked at the spec for the D100 and saw mention of the
AOA probe, but did not realize it could be fitted at the factory. The header tank level
option I did not know about. What others are there? I think the dipstick idea has a lot
going for it .

My friend, who flies a j230c out of Murray Bridge has modified the throttle knobs using two billiard balls instead. Looks neat. You can fly behind the 8 ball !
His complaint was that the edges of the factory ones were too sharp.
My son, who learnt to fly in the original model Jabiru a couple of years back, did a conversion Session last Saturday in a j160. Did not mind the throttle, found
the electric flaps to be in the wrong physical place, disliked the sloped double stick and was concerned by the behavior in the flare and the reading of fuel gauges.

Somewere in that budget there needs to be consideration of the
ongoings. Hangar space rental, insurance for your pride and joy, who
does the 25 hourly s. It goes on.

I think this is discussed on th message board section of <a href="http://www.jabiru.flyer.co.uk/" target="_blank">

I am 6ft 5in, so learning in an old Jab was a real issue. But a J160 is much less squeezy . Enough room to wear a top hat for formal occasions

Quality of CF cards
Spoke to my mate on Sunday. He is a tech with one of the exploration companies, and thus close to God. His comment was that TomTom (the gps crowd) warn that not all CF cards are fast enough for their applications. They say SANDISK are OK. Taiwan? :ah_oh:I was brought up in a world where Philps NV. ruled. Still the whole experience confirms the rule paper maps first , weather, paper flight plan then, compass etc backed up with a gps that can fail, just like that.
The funny thing was that we were attending a local Alfa Romeo Owners Club run at the time. Talk about Italian and electrics!
Any how, off we go to Narromine in 5083!:;)3:
