  1. Competition aircraft are the american company who sell the eqivalent design, it does vary in some small ways. I have bought parts from them before, and do follow the recommendation but as far as I know there are no specs for the australian made version that was bought out, and not now manufactures by bolly. I agree, anyone with any common sense would follow at least a basic maintanence schedule on their prop, it was the lack of info from the original local manufacturer I was commenting on. (case in point, the pitch blocks from the american manufacturer have to be redrilled to handle the Oz supplied bolts etc.

  2. The Lt T L Baileau was later to be in charge of the air force flying school at Narromine during ww2. His memorabilia are in that museum. His son, Tim Bailleau recently passed away at the family property (Tongy station) at Cassilas in NSW.

  3. $60 is nothing if you can afford $180K for a new plane

Didnt pay 180k for a new plane, didnt pay 30k for one either. Built the thing on a budget (remember them, building on a a budget???) object to paying $60 for a document that I thought was covered by my membership. After all, membership increased, temora cancelled, magazine cancelled (what the hell is isuuu.com), new regs and rules. Bu..er this, I am going flying.

  4. But couldn't you still make out the smell of the rotting corpse of Natfly?

Obviously you support the efforts of members to have a flyin of our own and Narromine obviously worked for you then. Only a rotting corpse because members did not support it, did not appreciate the efforts put into organising it and didnt want to get away from big brother and have our own flyin. Your helpful comments and commentary are appreciated. Did you actually attend Temora at any time.?

  5. Ah, well, now,. . . that there is the problem with hiring aircraft isn't it. . . ? When I was travelling sixty miles odd from Boronia to Bacchus Bloody Marsh on weekends, I don't think it was the time WE WERE UP that annoyed anyone, it was a really relaxed atmosphere there,. . .unfortunately the Earth's atmosphere was a bit too relaxed as well,. . .and we couldn't find any lift ! But as you sayk THAT'S VICTORIA if you don't like the weather. . . .wait a minute !I've flown a 170 Mile triangular course in a high performance sailplane in the UK. . .( again - not solo ) but that brings with it other problems, like,. . ."Can we land so that I can have a wee ?" . . .

And hiring Cessnas and Piper appliances from club airfields is a minefield as well,. . .the clever ones, fly right up until five minutes before the next booking, then jump out and say " Hey mate, . . .I'm real sorry I didn't refuel it for you, but me mam's had a heart attack and I've gotta run. . . . so you dutifully queue up at the bowser behind a half dozen twats who don't know how to connect the static lead and FINALLY. . .you get your turn to fill it up to the tabs . . .go into the office and sign for it,. . . and by the time you've loaded up and briefed your victims,. . .er, sorry . . .your PASSENGERS and got yourself lifted into the luft,. . . oh dear, . . .we can't go and photograph the roof of your house today because we only have 35 minutes left before Mister Smither's booking at three o clock. . . . . . what a crock of carp.

**Edited to add** When I had the temerity to borrow a C-150 from Berwick and actually FLY into Bacchus,. . .well,. . .I got treated like a bleeding leper for having a windmill on the front end. I tried this twice, and although it saved me time and trouble driving through Melbourne and back, I never got a Glidder flight. THAT was when I found out that there's THEM. . . and there's US.

    Phil

Started gliding in 1968 in NZ and the them and us was well and truly alive then. The only good ones were the ex fighter pilots (1967 remember) who maintained that gliding increased their flying skills and made them more weather aware and lift aware to save fuel. Made them very precise pilots too, which wasn't a bad thing. Put the 2 (power and sail) together and you have a great training scheme. The Them and Us attitude at the airfield is to their detriment, not yours.

  6. The provision of 3 bladed props for gazelles involved in training schools is maybe a case for this rule change. The 2 blade props are nigh on impossible to find and a valuable training aircraft is languishing because of a propeller issue. Is this the thrust of these changes?

  7. Oscar, that is why the aircraft are registered as a 19... aircraft. They are owner built assembled and all that goes with that. If someone buys a 19 reg aircraft then it is buyer beware, On the other hand, if you buy a 24... reg aircraft then you are trusting that the "qualified " person working on it actually knows what they are doing and in some cases this is a little on the scary side. The average 19.. builder has a solid vested interest in doing the maintenance correctly as it is their a..se on the line, not just a weekly wage. A 19.. reg aircraft is just that..an amateur built aircraft.. and anyone buying it must realise that. Any amount of regulations is not going to make people instantly responsible. Amateur built is amateur built, professional built is different. Your term "good enough" worries the hell out of me, surely the aircraft should be built correctly and time taken to make it as good as you can, commercial interests aside. 19.. reg and 24.. reg are 2 different beasts and in my experience, most (not all) 19 reg are superior to the 24 built standards.
