  1. aw come on, we want it all, CTA, more than 2 in the cockpit, aerobatics, 400knot flight. Hell why should we be limited just because some idiot thought we were recreational. This limited thinking infringes my right to stuff up city airports, over load my aircraft and fly faster than I can handle. Who the hell do these people think they are when they insist I actually have some responsibility for my actions. Down with rules, down with safety, down with common sense. Join the revolution, gimme it all.......just sayin...074_stirrer.gif.5dad7b21c959cf11ea13e4267b2e9bc0.gif

  2. If you can afford to pay $250/hr then good luck to you. I would be considering travelling and staying somewhere else on the difference between 250 and a less expensive school. Learn on an older machine and then convert. Cost a lot less.

Cost locally in the area of 140 - 150hr, no tin shed for an office and classroom (proper facilities, office and training room in a proper hanger, run as a proper business by a competent instructor and pilot examiner.) The option is there to train on a more expensive aircraft if you require but you have the choice. May help to price a bulk residential course and training over the school/business holidays with the change from the 250. Cheers.

  3. Yep, throw it right out, then call it happy holidays, ban any reference to christians in case you offend someone, cant have Australia day as you might exclude any none australians, make australia cities only so farmers cant protest about lack of representation and ban coffee because it comes from a non english speaking country. Cant have bells and whistles because someone hasnt written rules and regs governing them. Remove the 38hrs week as being undemocratic and let the governor general become the benevolent dictator of the aussie republic. Silly comment, silly answer. lol

  4. So therefore we should get rid of 95.10 aircraft because they are...what?...slow, fun, cheap, recreational, not plastic and not daily bulk transport. Pseudo GA wannabe

Many years back I spent a good chunk of my time and cost lobbying within a motor sport to make changes for the advancement and future security of that sport. The largest obstruction was from self interested people who already owned vehicles that they would base their own ideas about how the rules should be formed without seeing the larger picture for others. It would seem to me that you have a machine that falls within your parameters and that everyone else should merely fall into line.

Not in most people's considered levels of comfort you can't.

Maybe the weight standards for these categories are currently wrong, I think they are.

Are you an 'X-Air' agent by chance ...?

Nope, I am not an agent of any sort, I just happen to like the lighter end and more basic end of the sport and like the aircraft I have. I have no interest either financial or otherwise in the brand apart from having one and liking it.

  5. Nev, I posted to put the other side of the argument. With pilots wanting all of the GA privileges for a rec price and training, the need for a base level organisation/branch is becoming more urgent. I built my aircraft from a kit, I carry a 20ltr jerry can on the front passenger seat when doing cross country flights, and have the means to pump that into my main tanks while in flight for extra length. I have a range of 4 hrs on my main tanks which gives me plenty of range for long cross country flight.s. As I said, one to Cameron corner, 14 hrs out, 12 hrs back via Griffith, Ivanhoe, Broken hill and Packsaddle as refuelling points. I was headed for Birdsville but the winds and the price of fuel out there was against me. I dont fly in weather that is uncomfortable as I do this for fun, not as a means of getting from A to B no matter what. The only restriction in distance is refuelling points and weather as in any other flight. So it takes a little longer so be it. The speed of the aircraft in no way limits the cross countries I can do. I have a flight plan to do Perth from Goulburn in the aircraft and it is doable.

I have 2 people capacity, The aircraft, with instruments and new motor cost me $27000 in the air (and that includes the cost of the pilots cert training). It doesnt have to cost a fortune. Raa Aus were very helpful when I built it and the rego process was smooth as. I have been flying it for 8 years now and have only slowed down this year because of other non flying related issues.

  6. You had better run your maths in front of me Robinsm ,I have many times run figures on this matter and can't achieve what you say is possible. What is the cruise speed and fuel consumption rate of your X Air. I've done a fair bit of crosscountry . You need tie downs etc and I presume you carry water and some clothes .C-172's with 582 motors ??? pretty funny conclusion to suggest I'm advocating that.

Pylon 500. The RPL is useless for older people. It's been adequately discussed here. I'm not interested in flying Cessna's unless its a 210 ,182 and I've got somewhere to go.. I'm probably a rec pilot at heart, as much as anyone here, though ozzie beats me by a mile as the real McCoy. Nev

OK, aircraft empty weight, 236kg, fuel 65kg.(85lts @ .72kg/ltr) Tie downs (ropes and short star pickets..2kg) On ,my own that leaves 187kg for me and my gear. (tent, sleeping bag, water, 20lts jerry can full of fuel etc. Where is the problem. 55kts, 20lts hr. Done cross countries all over NSW from YGLB. (Broken Hill, Camerton Corner, Armidale, etc.) Might take a bit longer but a lot more fun and the scenery is fantastic (this is recreational not bulk transport we are talking about.) That help??

  7. I have a 2 seater, solid as, 490kg MTOW. Long cross country miles and paddock landings. On your reasoning, we should all have 172's with 582 motors. Remember, these are Ultralights, not medium lights or heavy lights. My undercarriage is spring and shock absorber designed for rough landings. I can carry 2 x 90kg people including fuel. Next problem?

  8. Just throwing it out there, why not reduce the MTOW of aircraft registered with Raa Aus to 490kg, remove LSA and Float increases. Anything requiring these extras go to CASA. That way Controlled airspace, RPL, etc cease to become devisive and the organisation can return to being a RECREATIONAL flying organisation. If you want all the bells and whistles of GA without the cost, then tough luck. Horses for courses. 075_amazon.gif.0882093f126abdba732f442cccc04585.gif

  9. So a question was asked and the person asking already knew the answer. There is only only RA-Aus school registered at Goulburn although memory says there are two.Well, good luck with that. I'm not playing.

In future please reference a public announcement from the organisation concerned, CASA, RA-Aus or some primary source that has authority to make definitive statements and a charter to do so.

May I suggest this drift continues on PPRune, where it belongs?

There were 2 schools at Goulburn, the original Goulburn Aviation run by Teraya Miller which is still very much alive and kicking, the other school was Goulburn Flight Training Centre. which has been closed. No PPRUNE involved, no inuendo just facts.

  10. That will be a pity if an RAAus school has closed but will be continuing with it's GA work. Is this an indication that the RPL is having an affect on RAAus?

Nope, its an indication that you must run a school properly and have reliable servicable aircraft and competent instructors. Nothing to do with the RPL.

  11. That is a shame. I have senced trouble a foot out there at golbourn. You only need to read the notams regarding use Of the airfield by recreational aircraft to smell a rat.

Shame, last thing we need at the moment.

The notam has been repealed and cancelled. No current notams at Goulburn.

  12. Goulburn flight training centre shut down because of aircraft problems. The original training school, both Raa and GA, goulburn aviation run by Teraya Miller is still alive and kicking. (just attended the christmas BBQ which was well attended)) She also runs Canberra Aviation check out her web site by typeing in the names to google. Top schools and top training.

  13. why are you not testing the fuel before you put it in your tanks. Self preservation my friends. Ethanol in fuel may be ok if your tanks are made of vinyl ester resins but what is it doing to your fuel lines and carbies? Simple test to see if ethanol is present. Been doing it for years every time I buy fuel from the gas station. I use 98 fuel in the aircraft. Any ethanol would degrade the octane rating.
