I can't believe any of these. Absolutely amazing!!!
-

So I imagine if I do mine in a jab I would end up with:
Cross country, tricycle, high powered etc. I take it it's based on what you do your training in?
-
That's why I said upfront. Is it really? Might be cheaper on the surface but it only lasts two years versus five for the AVID. -
You need either an AVID or ASIC regardless to get your student. YOu must get one or the other. I went asic cause it was cheaper upfront.
-
But if you don't get an asic then you need to get a security search done which costs $280 or something. I found it a little bit cheaper to get the asic.

Hey all,
Just reading through the ops manual (yeah boring lunch time) and was having a look at the various endorsements etc you can get. Problem was when I went to find what they allow you to do, there seems to be no guidelines (that I could find).
For example the Advanced Pilot Award - Bragging rights only? - seems to be a bit vague while other like Tail wheel seem to be self explanatory (only because of the name though), and others like Low level flying or high performance seem to have no qualitative measures.
I'm sure it's in there and I just can't find it.
Cheers,

I'll be able to answer that next week. To date I have only flown on GA aircraft (C172, cherokee, tomohawks etc). First flight in a Jab on Saturday.
-
And those number don't include landing fees gst etc.
I know my flying worked out to on average in a c172 $320/hr dual and less about $60 per hour solo.
-
Yeha but means that the saving on the cheaper aircraft will become more pronounced than if it was soleley GFPT based.
-
Except that GFPT is only halfway. Yo really need PPL's. When you factor in the cost of doing that then surely it would be cheaper the RA route. I know my lessons are going to actualyl be 50% of what they were in GA.
-
Congrats. A moment you'll never forget.
-
lol. THanks guys. Iron eagle that's the one.5 bucks says they didn't even bother to put it on dvd.
Was it iron eagle that had the tomohawk doing a barrel roll?

Hey all,
There was a movie in the 80's (loved it when I was a kid).
Opening scene is a race between (from memory) a tomahawk and a motorbike. Kid eventually fly's some kind of jet to save his dad (can't remember type).
What is the name of this movie? I can't find it.

Save the learning how to switch aircraft after you've learnt how to fly is what I say.
-
So far in my training (16hrs) I have flown 2 different aircraft solo, and 5 different aircraft while training. I have flown at 4 different airports (including every single runway at archerfield).
I didn't go solo till 14hrs training time. I believe this could have been lessened by about 4 hours if I was only flying one aircraft. I was appreciative of the ability to try a different aircraft but after a while it got beyond a joke (hence a change in schools). Unfortunately changing schools I had to leave behind a fantastic instructor.
I believe the different aircraft gave me a good understanding of flight but i don't want to change that much. I say stick with one as much as possible to start with. It will save you $$$ and time.

Nice reply tony. Some really interesting points there.
-
Besides which I beleive everyone here has walked carefully around that topic. Saying stuff like "check with your instructor and see why..." etc.
-
I'll be honest. I would give up my job in a heartbeat for a 60k a year flying tourists around the whitsundays for NZ north island.
-
Well now that I have a career I am able to pay for most of it (certainly up to PPL) as I go along. I just thought it sucked that we find it so hard for younger people to get into the industry.
As far as I'm aware, unless you're parents are going to pay for it, or I believe there is one hecs based aviation course, or you get into the RAAF academy on a scholarship (all situations very unliekly) it seems hard to get into flying.
Was just musing on the article re: decrease in license numbers.

Hey all,
My Brother in law in the US has just received finance to complete his CPL (forget that it will cost him half of what I pay, regardless of the exchange rate). The finance is quite light on at the begninning then once complete steps up a level (assuems a job I guess).
Do we have any license specific finance in Australia? If not is there market for it? In the latest edition of Australian Flying it talks about how pilots license holders in australia have decreased (for all types). Could this be the cause? Or are they going O/S to learn where it is cheaper all round?
I am a specialist accountant and had to move in to a career just to afford to pay for my flying. I would have given anything for the ability to finance a career.

Craig flying in brisbane in winter, spring and autumn are just fantastic. We live through the hell of summer and hope it's over quickly...

You'll have a blast. Enjoy.

Hey all,
As someone fairly new to this as a hobby I have noticed a lack of vod or podcasts from australia. There seems to be plenty of US ones but no Aus ones?
Is this the case? Is there a call for one?
