  1. Have had 4 prius hybrids over last 10 yrs. Never had a problem with any of them and the current one has 240K on clock. Perfect combination of battery and ICE for Aus. I drive Melb to Gold Coast 4 times a year, 110 k/h most of the way @ 4.8 L / 100k. Cant tow with the prius but the new AWD Rav 4 can and gets 4.8 L / 100k. Nice vehicle too. My sister has a Tesler and just gets from Melb to Albury before needing a charge. The super charger only charges to 80% (to save battery) so another charge at Euroa to get back home. Australia is perfect for hybrids because of the distances travelled if you want more than a 50K commute vehicle. Same with electric aircraft, good for circuit training or specific duties, not as long distance commuters.

  2. Just wondering if RA-AUS had tried to negotiate a fixed discounted pricing model for RA aircraft operating on AAA controlled airfields or has RA-AUS  made this agreement to further the desire to please CASA and  the planned expansion to register GA aircraft and their operators.

  3. With RAA aircraft we can do our own maintenance. Pass a short on line test to get L1 maintenance approval and you can maintain a factory aircraft as per factory maintenance program but it cannot be used for hire or training. I believe if fully inspected and released by a suitably qualified LAME or L2 it can be then used on line again.

  4. Governments view milk as an essential food group and when farmers try using collective bargaining or withholding product they are threatened with punitive action. If the product is an essential food why not set a base price for the raw material to keep the industry viable. All we have seen is a push for smaller operators to get big or get out. This is quickly shifting the industry from local to foreign owned and creating small communities/towns depleted of population and commerce. Once again a free market ethos at all costs.

  5. Time is coming around where I will need to replace the tires and I came across the simex brand and believe they are manufactured in Malaysia and have had contracts with Boeing. Just wondering if anyone has had experience with this brand. My size is 500-5 6ply.

    Thanks

  6. I believe any airport transferred from the commonwealth to local government must remain an airport unless re-use is signed off by the commonwealth. Cross funding local government departments is easy when cost recovery principals are applied. Oncosts charged against a specific tied grant soon reduce the grants total funds applied DIRECTLY to the project and can be greater than 50%. This is not illegal but standard accounting practice.

  7. Why add 3 additional calls to those recommended in the CAAP in a publication intended to be educational to RAAus members? The table in the CAAP lists 6 calls, the author lists 8, having added "about to initiate takeoff" and "clear of runways" to the table and "mandatory base call" in the body of the article. Additional broadcasts are only required if there is a potential of conflict, but to routinely make additional calls is poor airmanship. It displays a lack of knowledge and/or disregard for safe practice recommendations.

I agree, it is in the second part of the quote, "risk of collision" That may require the additional calls.
