  1. Good news

Just got the approval finalised to conduct the airshow from CASA...program will be on the website shortly with a few more surprises....remember though that the event is predominately a "Fly-in..Cruise-in" with an airshow...plenty of activities on the ground and in the air...on site camping is available for those that want to camp under wing. hope to see you all there:keen:

  2. Voting booths at dalby wings and wheels 21st august 2010

Yes folks, now that the redhead has officially called the election for the same day, we were contacted by the AEC and we will have polling booths at our event so everyone can attend without having to worry about voting first or rushing home before the days event has finished...we have thought of everything:big_grin:

  3. Apparently it did exist and was fitted with a Pratt & Whitney XT34-P turboprop engine as well as the other 4 engines and flew between 1949 and 1965 in this config as a test bed for the turbo prop engine..the plane was converted back to a "normal" B17 around 2002..the single engine version deplicted here was simply a photo shopped hoax that has been around for a while:nerd:

  4. I thought KLM was the worlds oldest continuously operational airline? :P

Actually it was Chalk's based in Miami florida, flies between florida and the bahamas and has been doing that since february 1917. QANTAS is probably the worlds longest surviving airline under the same ownership now that KLM is owned by Air France 087_sorry.gif.8f9ce404ad3aa941b2729edb25b7c714.gif

  6. Roulettes etc

Just letting everyone know that part of the star line up in the air display will be the RAAF Roulettes and Tony Blair in his Rebel 300 as well as handling demonstrations of everything from hanggliders to warbirds. Outside of the display times, joyflight and TIFs will be available. Details of these will be on our website shortly. Hot air balloon rides as well as joyrides and TIFs will be able to be prebooked on the website early next week. see you all there:clap:

  7. At $194,000 USD...what a nightmare to park, and heaven forbid bingle...with front and rear bumpers being flying control surfaces, just not practical in the real world and I doubt if you could get affordable insurance premiums...personally, I'd rather an amphib.

  8. Quite right Bill, I agree totally with your post. The current medical standards set by CASA are quite draconian and should be reformed to meet modern medical standards. In the past, medical issues, colour-blindness or general fitness (or lack there-of) would meet with a medical refusal. It is indeed very good to see a range of issues like colour blindness, blood pressure, heart irregularities (I have a friend who flies commercially with a pacemaker) and now diabeties being relaxed if effective controls are in place to keep everything in the normal range. In the other post regarding diabeties, three month checks by a DAME seem a little "over the top" I would have thought that a six monthly confirmation with your GP and a yearly check with a DAME would be quite affective. My earlier post reflected my opinion on another "regulator" being introduced into the arena with the proposition that it take over private GA (medicals being a major issue). I would much prefer the RAA remain the only governence on recreational flying (monetary commonsense) with an increase of weight to include experimental and simple four seat single engine aircraft VFR by day, OCTA without medicals. ( I can't see any major differences with the skills required to fly a Jab, RV6 or a C182) and for PPL and upwards, a reform in medical standards which is realistic that reflects modern medical controls on pre-existing conditions. As for age related issues, :black_eye: another good friend of mine stopped flying at 76 because his response time to things happening got to a stage where he thought it was too risky to continue. Wasn't a regulator/DAME that told him to stop flying but it was his decision. He is still fit and healthy, still drives across the Nullabor, still goes deep sea fishing and still enjoys going flying with someone else doing the driving.

  9. personally, I can't see any advantage of either the SAAA or RAA taking over recreational GA...and would add more restrictions and expense. having just gone through another medical renewal, I think its a good safety issue to get checked out anyway. if you get to the stage when you start failing medicals should you really be up there (ie over populated areas). At my age I reckon I got about 10 years left before age related issues may start to preclude me piloting aircraft and at that stage would have enjoyed about 40years of flying. so what will I do then you may ask...I've told the missus, I'am going to buy a big catamaran and become a Pirate..:gerg:

  10. I've been an aviation tragic for over thirty or so years and flown thousands of hours in a lot of varied aircraft...It comes as no surprise to those who know me, that it takes a lot to impress me when a new aircraft comes along...From what I have seen with these aircraft and what Ive read (yet to fly it) very impressive and well done guys:thumb_up:
