Here is a small video of when we fitted the Eprop to Rogers World Aircraft Company "Spirit" He got a extra 5kts in cruise and doubled his heavy configuration takeoff climb performance. Less vibration as well. This was my test prop with a 0mm spacer the same prop that was on Danny's Savannah with the 120mm extension. Danny ordered a complete prop and spinner with a 105mm extension to suit his modified VG with a S cowl. His is now fitted which of course left my demo prop free to try on Rogers.

Wow I am surprised at how little coverage there in in ASA system..The hummock and Roma and norther NSW...no wonder its 5000ft they quote and why FR24 is so much better. I actually have a FR24 system that FR24 sent to me to install up at my farm...I havent done it yet but will be very shortly
-
Actually you are right..I now remember I was told that he got onto FR24 and got it fixed for his R number
-
Well that explains it....do you have a map of where all the ADSB reciever sites are?
-
Coming up straight away on FR24 means you must be close to one of the ADSB ground stations
-
If you contact CASA I think it is the rego place and tell them its the wrong icon its a jet not a light aircraft
-
Tracked down the connector required...no soldering needed at all :)..it will just be a plug in

Hi Eric have a look at my blog here Another NEW Savannah XL on its way from post #886 this has what I did with the std rotax muffler. It had more power on the ground but I didnt get the new lower cowl finished....I may do as I have a mold of the lower cowl now to be able to make a new one. I am not too far away from fitting the engine to my latest project My Savannah S model rebuild Blog
-
Hi Eric sorry to say there is no off the shelf exhaust for the Sav at all. The current std exhaust chokes the engine and makes one side run hotter than the other.
You could retrofit a 912IS muffler with new pipes but you need to modify the lower cowl. I have done some work on converting a standard Rotax muffler but have not modified a cowl yet
There are a coule of us here playing with a new exhaust straight through without a muffler it connects 2 cylinders into one pipe then the other two into another pipe then those 2 pipes converge into one pipe. The whole assembly is tuned and should give around 5 or so extra horsepower..it maybe load though and a inline muffler maybe needed under the front floor of the Sav

Yes will be ok for a plastic fantastic but a all aluminium and steel cage is a whole different matter
That external antenna mod is looking better and better
I have to say the CASA rego office to get your hex number is on the ball....I got mine literally in 2 hours from the first email to them

I could come up with a system I am sure for remote control of the button
and also what LED is on and not
Easiest way of course is fit a external antenna :)

Garfly there is a Flarm receiver that can also pickup mode C transponders and actually place them in spacial presentation to you on the flarm units screen. Its expensive though about 3.5k aussie. It does ADSB etc as well and it does the Australian Flarm frequency set
-
It says in the paperwork for installation it should be as vertical as possible and either small edge leading forward or flat leading forward. This is why I say a nice small maybe symmetrical aerofoil shaped enclosure around it mounted on the top or bottom of the aircraft

The SkyEcho2 is a SIL=1 device according the the specs .....Just found the CASA full document and reading it. If it was a "integrated" SIL=1 device TCAS will see it. The SkyEcho2 is NOT a integrated device only a EC device so will not be seen by TCAS directly as it does not get interrogated by that aircrafts TCAS. It will be seen directly by the ADSB IN of that aircrafts ADSB unit
Those aircraft with TCAS would most likely be fitted with ADSB IN.
I believe it is certainly capable of it but at this stage the firmware is done to not be seen directly with TCAS. I also see in the uAvionix paperwork its a no no to fit a external antenna to the unit....I dont understand why not but it will be some stupid regulation of particular compliance. Sounds like it would be better to be mounted outside of the aircraft for a clean transmit pattern not interrupted by cabin areas and or cabin frame etc. Would be easy to organise a small printed plastic box mounted to the underside or the top of the aircraft to get the best RX and TX range

My SkyEcho2 arrived this arvo so will have a play.
I made some Raspberry Pi ADSB IN units (same as Stratux units) for guys and it used to work with Oz runways then they stopped it on the basic plan and it was only available on the next plan price up.
Avplan has it available in the base plan and also when you turn traffic on it shows ABSB paints and you can run Avtraffic as well
The SkyEcho...I believe will show direct local contacts and also because it is out it will show up on others with ADSB in for direct mode and also what comes from the ADSB ground stations. The SkyEcho will also come up on TCAS if it is installed on other aircraft close by.
I will see what it comes up with as soon as I get a chance to play with it

Yes there is...they legistlate that every aircraft has at least a EC or TABS unit or worst case a transponder then that costs everyone a lot more to fly. Its much easier and cheaper to make the "other" company share its data as you have already bought a tracking system that works when you are in phone coverage
-
Competition or not safety should be the priority.
The one time we want CASA to issue a directive for safety reasons and over a commercial body and they dont seem compelled to add that the EFB data must be shared for ADS-B for any EFB program supplier.
They rant and rave and say they do it for safety they should force any EFB company to share this data as a common part of their approvals to be used

ADS-B in I mean on Ozrunways
I just wish OZrunways would share the data then everyone can see everyone...far far safer

You only get the ADSB on Ozrunways if you have the next level up..the premium one..Avplan does it in the their base version
-
I ordered one on Thursday and it left today but they told me only a few left and then it will be at least a month until they get more stock
I am going to see if I can fit an external antenna port on mine.
-
Yep that sounds right and it happens a lot...those bunnies have way too much say over the experts but doesnt happen with the Basic Class 2.....The CASA guy told me once the DAME takes the responsibility CASA then doesnt interfere
-
Did you buy a lotto ticket?

Mike
yes thats right you still have to have a DAME go over you and all the other necessary stuff...BUT if you have any diabeties or heart history of had cancer CASA office bunny says no even thought the doc says ok. The basic medical takes the bunny out of the equation....and relys on just the Doctors opinion and being a DAME he knows more than the bunny
New throttle system for Rotax
in Savannah
Posted
Work is progressing on the production version of the throttle mod
The hand made brackets I have now drawn up and modelled in 3D software. This then allows me to 3D print 100% size versions with reasonable accuracy so we know what we get when everything is laser cut. There has been a few revisions done to get the angles correct and some hole spacings. Had a test fit tonight of the main shaft and brackets..The levers and bearing blocks are all perfect now all looks really good just need to extend both the top bracket mounting holes at the rear about 1.5mm to allow for the bends in the brackets. Then print some more models with all bits attached including the carb throttle lever and finalise it then I can think about the laser cutter guys
