  1. Catch 22 really. Need to have the job to claim it.

I was offered a job but had to pass a medical to get it.

Did (and payed for) a medical, so got the job.

Could not claim it because I was not employed at the time of the medical.

    Such is life. :;)2:

  2. Successful maiden flight for the AKOYA

This flight follows a two months of intensive tests campaign. This summer, a series of short flights at low altitude validated taxi, take-off, landing, roll out, engine air cooling and flight controls efficiency. This August 22nd, the test pilot considered that the AKOYA was ready to make a complete cycle: take-off, steady flight, landing. The flight lasted more than 15 minutes and the AKOYA flew a course between lake and mountains, closed to LISA Airplanes facilities. The prototype A of the AKOYA is fitted with computers recording almost 40 parameters in real time (speed, attitude, temperatures, control surfaces position…).

Only ground-water-snow amphibian airplane, AKOYA has a range of 1.500 Km (620 Nm) and a maximum speed of 300 Km/h (168 kts). The engine is a 100 hpRotax 912 S.

  3. Hmm Looks nice. I'll be watching this one.

Was looking at the sonex with Jab 6, but looks a bit of a squeeze for someone at 6'3" like me. Good US$ exchange at the moment though.

Best to buy aussie but isn't it?

    Regards.

Are the wings removable, does any one know?

  4. In reference to the first post. If space (land area) was tight, then you might want to go that way. But I think the kit type hangars are the most cost effective. http://www.ranbuild.com.au/hangar.htm

Custom designs require individual engineering and this costs $$$$

I also doubt you will need centre beams for only 12 metres or so spread.

Possibly, the modification of a standard kit, where you replace the back with another front (if you follow me...to give doors on both sides), would be the closest and most cost effective to your design.

  5. Hey Ozzie,

The warm oil bit just won't work. The cold engine (0 degrees-ish) will pull the warmth out of the oil in seconds. Best bet would be to get the oil very hot and start the engine straight away if you wanted to try this. Best thing to do is as previously stated, heat the engine as a whole.

Heating the battery is a good idea though.

One of those cheap fan forced "k-mart" heaters will probably do and small gensets are only a few hunderd dollars if no power is available. Ofcourse the genset has other uses as well, like making a cup of tea while you wait for your engine to warm...........

Now......If the genset is too cold to start.........hmmmmmm?

    Regards,
