  1. Beginning 01-01-2021,  YBDG & YWTO have introduced landing fees & parking charges.

City of Greater Bendigo being the money hungry morons they are, will be charging $11+gst per tonne or part thereof per landing and $11 per day parking.

Wentworth NSW Shire being progressive, will be charging $15 per landing for aircraft over 1.7 tonne and $6 per day parking. Not hard to see which one wants to encourage private light aircraft to visit!.

Interestingly enough, neither have these notifications in ERSA yet.

  2. When l purchased my plane the 3300A had 525hrs up, all on avgas. At 580hrs it started pumping the bottle full of oil in about 1.5hrs. Had to break all top rings & 3 seconds to get unstuck from lead carbon in grooves. Approx 1.5mm carbon on pistons & valves. New 40thou over commodore ringset($50) with endgaps opened up & valves cleaned/lapped. Changed to 98mogas, now after 620hrs in 5years have gone to 50hr oil changes due to oil not dirty 'nuff before then. Using 40-50ml ph & at each service approx 15ml in bottle, of which 5ml is water/condensation. Runnin like a swiss watch.

  3. Just watching ‘Operation Buffalo’ on ABC, a Bristol Freighter flies in carrying a VIP’s Rolls-Royce,it is either exceedingly good CGI or it is real. Does anyone on here have any knowledge?

Bit of cutting & splicing going on too. The first scene at the steps of the DC3 and then with the pollies getting out of the Bristol, show same rego. The DC3s, operated by Historic Aircraft Restoration Society.

  4. And the remote outstations are serviced by the flying doctor. But us lot could do deliveries of light stuff at a small percentage of the cost.

My guess is that a flying doctor turbo would cost about $10,000 for a 2 hour sortie. More like $200 for my Jabiru, that's 2%.

Unfortunately we are not allowed to charge for services rendered, would have to volunteer our services for free!.

  5. Spacesailor,

definately dismantle brakes, wash pads & rotor well with petrol/brakekleen, blowdry, give both a good scrub with an  aggressive glasspaper, re-assemble & taxi.

                                          Cheers.

  6. Anybody know if these are available in Aus for Jabiru engines & appr cost ?

                                                                                                                                                              Cheers all

  7. Here's a question.... Are there any solicitors well versed in Australian aviation law/rules, especially those related to wireless/ACMA and the use of radios by licenced pilots? I have an acquaintance that may have an ACMA/Air Services/CASA issue and I would like to recomend a qualified legal source to disambiguate an apparent conflict in the rules.

    Dont leave us hanging !

  8. Today I did some more flow tests.Test 1. With the pipe removed from the mech fuel pump and hose into the container.. That is, minimum restrictions, no mech pump.Flow=73 l/hr ( Yep, more that the 60 l/hr figure quoted )

Test 2. With the mech pump reconnected and pipe from the mech pump to the carby disconnected at the carby and put into the container ( that is with the stationary mech fuel pump impeding flow from the elec pump)

    Flow = 58.8 l/hr.

Test 3. With the container catching fuel from where the carby bowl was removed. That is, maximum impediments of stationary mech fuel pump and float inlet valve present, with the fuel delivered by the elec pump from the tank behind the seats.

Flow = 28.8 l/hr ( more than the 23.5 I had measured before, both times were for 30 sec. This time I reckon I primed it better so the first second or two were not filling empty hoses.

The latest Jabiru maintenance manual states ( shame on me for not reading this sooner ) that the min fuel pressure is 0.75 psi and the max is 3.0 psi. How much is 0.75 psi? well I tried blowing into the gauge and found that 1.5 psi is about the max I can do. It's more than a balloon needs.

    So here are my conclusions.

    1. The fuel system is OK and can be left alone.

    2. The pressure gauge will not be mounted in the panel, partly because it doesn't give really useful info and partly because it was too cheap to be fuel-tolerant over the years. It will be fine as an annual test instrument.

Thanks again for all the helpful comments.

Hi Bruce, .75psi is three quarters of one psi .

  9. My good Macquarie street barrister friend of 25 years says the court system is corrupt, if you are a working stiff you are screwed!!! - The answer is - if you cant push 100's of thousands of dollars into the law firm and the other side can OUT spend you - you loose. 97.7% of the time or worse.

Any person off the street on a middle income cannot beat the court system if the other side has a no limit cash spend.to the legal system - ASIC - CASA - TAX DEPT - or any gov dept - can always bankrupt an average person by just grinding them into the ground. Talk about a fair a just system.

    Prove me wrong your honor.

    This gentleman did !

  10. Curious to know if anyone has experienced problems with the standard VDO/Jabiru Tacho, mine is showing intermittent random RPM readings and intermittent loss of the LCD (at 61 hrs), I know of another doing the same. I would suggest dry solder joints. The unit appears to be only serviceable from the front, does anyone know if the front bezel removable?

Had similar problem with a Jab160 a few years ago, turned out a loose internal wire on the charge dyno was causing voltage spikes & overvoltage. Repaired, problem solvered.

  11. I’m a newy on this forum from South Africa. Fly an Ikarus C42 as an aviator and also do low level agricultural surveys as way of living in the same C42 and R44 as a observer. Cattle farming is suppose to be my main forté when not flying. I am keen to be part of this forum. Happy chats!!

    Welcome to the forum C42Ikarus,

    cheers Roger.
