  1. Dale Castle, retired LAME, has one. VH-EME. At Wentworth NSW (near Mildura). He may be able to help.

Dale can be reached on 0350272567 , last I heard someone in I think Melbourne wanted it but not sure if the deal went through. Possibly had updated wing? Good luck.

  2. Was reading the policy on the CASA website to try to work out exactly what the go is. I read that "at a minimum, all pilots must undergo the background checks for an AVID" literally this would mean power paraglider, gyrocopter, hanglider and paraglider pilots. So to me that reads at the very least every current pilot needs an AVID irrespective of where they fly."You need a valid ASIC if you require frequent access to a secure area of a security controlled airport that has Regular Public Transport (RPT) operations". The operator can determine which areas are security controlled but the intent is where RPT operators are parked/loading/offloading. ASIC not required at security controlled airport unless you plan to fly into one frequently there is no guide as to what is considered frequent.

I have tried to get YMIA to reply to me several times over the last 12 months as to their security areas, no reply, next time I'm up that way I will go in without a ASIC & approach the office in person. (whoops another threat of doing something illegal).

  3. And yet, if I stood in front of an audience of thousands, as a comedian, made the same statement during an aviation related skit, I'm sure most would 'laugh their heads off' ( whoops sorry, could be taken as inducing mass suicide). Jesus,( whoops, taking the lords name in vain) are we becoming so 'thin skinned' as a society that we can't see a tongue in cheek joke statement for what it is?.

Hargraves said, I,m a recreational pilot ie (beaches and paddocks) the beauracrats can tailspin till they dissapear up their own backsides and a more fitting place for them, I can,t imagine.

Wow, hope someone in pain after a lower bowel procedure doesn't read that!

Boleropilot said, I am not going to get it renewed, I am simply going to get a red identity card with my photo on it and carry all my personal I.D. on my person

and if anyone asks me for it, I won't say anything, I'll just hold up my little red card that's hanging around my neck and see what happens next...

and if some Nazi says "that's not an ASIC card" I'll just say "I didn't say it is, I'm just giving you my I.D

Wonder if someone in CASA has already contacted airports to keep a lookout for him?.

Careful Skippydiesel, I'm sure there's a law about inciting civil disobedience/unrest.

God,(there I go again) lets all 'get a grip', and no I'm not suggesting what some may be thinking!

    Without prejudice!!!

  4. Thanks guys, After more hard work than I thought, the toe-in is now about 0.25 of a degree ( next to nothing) and I have increased the pressure to 35 psi.The camber was ok ( a tiny bit where the top of the tyre is further away from the fuse) so I don't think the legs are faulty.

It seemed to track better on the ground, but the proof will only be available from wear over time.

I asked this guy at our gym group who used to be a RAF ground crew for mainly Hawker Hunters many years ago. He said they didn't care about alignment because the tyres were replaced after 2 landings anyway, and the Lightnings after every landing.

So BT what was the toe before the adjustment ? Cheers

  5. On the contrary. There has been much debate and much push from AOPA, SAAA, the multitude of forums and chat groups. I have a vague idea ( but could be wrong) The Forster report had a section on ASICs and the feelings of the industry about them.

    All to no avail.

CASA and the government have used intransigence over the ASIC as their evidence of going tough on terrorism and aviation security. They have made statements that they will not allow our airport security to be cut back etc etc making it sound as though ASICs are contributing to safer skies.

Easier votes from an electorate who doesn't know what an ASIC card is and who it is who has to have one etc. and at what cost and certainly who doesn't know how little they contribute to anything.

As far as joe blogs is concerned we all fly in and out of big airports and we all could be terrorists going to load up our Cessnas ( that's the only aircraft they know the name of) with bombs ( lots of them) and fly these fully loaded missiles into skyscrapers.

    Stuff the government doesn't correct.

Sooooooo, when I decide to commit an act of aviation terrorism, should I apply for the ASIC first to give me access or just get over the top & push the yoke forward ??

  6. Thanks for the comments guys. I will ask the factory but don't expect too much from them. Here's a pic I took today of the tyre which is about to go in the bin. But see how the outside has worn away badly.

The worst wear is where you wouldn't even think the tyre was touching the runway, well this must be wrong and I must be doing something wrong to get this result.

Hi Bruce, looks to me from the piccie, about 1-1.5 deg too much toe & about 8 lbs low. Do both tyres wear the same?

  7. Hi Don,

my stab is dowelled to the fuse at the front & bolted to the rudder post with a cut out over the elevator. It also needs to be removable 'cause the horizontal stab in mine is one piece.

I also have plans showing this. Have included a piccy which may or may not help.

    Cheers, Roger.

PS: These aircraft are an absolute joy to fly, hope you have loads of fun in it.

  8. This was my first visit to the Flinders Ranges and included what for me was a new level in remote flying. It was an 1100+ nautical mile round trip and I somehow contrived to fly the whole thing against headwinds. The scenery was fabulous and I hope to go back some time soon. Here's a link to my blog:http://www.ansoneng.com/sample-page/sonex-trips/arkaroola/

Should become a journalist Peter, good read, cheers.

  9. I witnessed a Mustang spiral into the ground from low altitude. I was present at the opening of Bendigo Airport in Feb 1970, where the headline act at the airshow was a lowlevel pass in a Mustang, owned and flown by Don Busch. He made two low passes over the field, and was requested by the air traffic controller to make an unscheduled third pass. While making the turn to come back for the pass, at 1500ft, the plane dropped a wing and spiralled behind the trees before a black cloud of smoke rose into the air. Here is a copy of the ATSB report: https://www.atsb.gov.au/media/24581/197002554.pdfComments on the wrinkled plum suggest that he may have had a full fuselage tank (behind the seat), which put the C of G too far after for the manouvre. He only had about 25 hours experience on the aircraft, mostly in travel flights.

I also witnessed that.........scary, & at the time hadn't thought I would ever be a pilot cos I'm scared of heights. Incidently, all these years later small pieces are still being found occasionally. Just a piece of useless info, when captains/1st officers practice stalls in Jumbos they take 9000ft to recover to level flight!.

  10. Husband & wife were discussing death. Husband told wife," ya know death isn't final, you can come back reincarnated as something different". Wife says "really, I would love to come back as a cow". Hubby says........................."You weren't listening were you!!"..

  11. If somebody approaches to see the ASIC you dont have...........(1) Ask who their employer is (2) ask to see their course completion cetificate authorising them to make the sighting request. If the answers are (1) Airport operator (2) Dont have one, then go about your business & ignore them, they are NOT ALLOWED to detain you, only police are. IE: Asic checker at YMIA is the Airport gardener.
