Lots of learned peoples on here, maybe some old enough to remember.
Would anybody know the whereabouts of the forerunner of CAGIT?.
Perhaps we could bring life back to it & get it travelling again...............anybody?.

RemoHi DanI think just about every Sav has had a problem with cowling proximity to the exhaust. Most just cut the cowl to give enough clearance, some re-glass the clearance hole with a bulge.
Cheers

Greetings all;I have about 1 cm clearance between the forward corners of my exhaust silencer (muffler) and the bottom cowling. I wrapped the silencer ends with a couple of layers of exhaust pipe heat wrap (held in place with safety wire) and applied two layers of reflective/adhesive heat shield to the inside area of my lower cowling. This was still not sufficient to prevent a spot of scorching of the paint work on the outside of the cowling.Has anyone else encountered this issue and- if yes - how did you handle it?
I am considering cutting a couple of circular holes right through the fiberglass cowling to permit some airflow in these areas as well as providing a little more clearance between the silencer and cowl.
Response?

Any reason against doing away with the silencer?, would sound mean! Interesting last question, what if I change my mind after 98.5 years?
Be interesting to see if I get a call about my DGAS answer!

Hi Jabirupilot,Hi Marty, basically the same as the viking but different enough to not run foul of copyright.
Using steel springcap instead of aluminium & Aust made spring of round wire instead of rectangular.
Next time the cowl is off, will try to get ya a piccy. Not as pretty as the viking but still effective.
Cheers Roger.

Fitted my own version today with an australian spring,( 200grm lighter).
Works beautifully & no need to touch ramps, still within W/B tolerance.

Amazing the difference 'tween the different industries;
AUTOMOTIVE: Manufacturer identifies a fault, works out a fix then does a recall. Fixed free.
AIRCRAFT: Manufacturer identifies a fault, works out a 'fix'? then publishes a service bulletin/AD which requires the owner to purchase the parts & fit/have fitted at their own expense.

Encountered carb ice twice, base & final at YSWH during flight from YWTO in the Monoplane, ch fixed it.
Then fan stopped at touchdown, 30 dg moderate humidity, should have left it on.

Before CAGIT there was the 'Pis' ton Broke' trophy.
You had to travel min 130knm to claim it. Last location I can trace it to was Moonta in SA, as printed in the June '03 AUF Mag. C'mon let's find it & resurrect for a new life.
