  1. I watched Mark at Jabiru do mine on Monday and noticed the one little sneaker behind the grub screw. Mark also did a full leak down as well. For me at YCAB it's a no brainer to fly up and have 50hrly's done by the experts. I know this is possible only for a few of the thousand + in service. The bill was reasonable as well- cheaper than a lot of bikes I get serviced! There is clearly a lot of highly experienced but dispersed knowledge within this thread on Jabiru engines and history- and we can all learn lots from it. For my two dollars the guys at the factory see and hear just about all of it and when their spanners are on my engine I fly more relaxed!

I copped a lot of friendly jibbing from fellow flying friends and acquaintances before I bought my Jab- and in these early days I can't yet say they are catagorically wrong- but I'm damn sure I'm going to be right on top of professional maintenance with mine, as many (not all) engine problems can be explained by variations to schedule, either inadvertantly or through lack of education/knowledge.

On AVGAS, I'm sure everyone has read the bulletin- read between the lines- you fly an aircraft- put aviation fuel in it. I know of 5 people in the last month who have had water contamination with MOGAS in their cars/bikes, some were premium as well! (use Mr Funnel if in a/c). There is also at least one case of an a/c with ethanol damage to wing tanks as well...

Now that might stimulate some discussion....

  2. Just had 50hrly(TT) done by Jab on new 2200B(hydraulic) in my J120. All OK - Ts & Ps always in mid green. Normal early oil usage on run in oil but now very minimal (normal). I flew one of the A/C in Q in this thread with no problems and was surprised to hear of stud through bolt failure. I ALWAYS pull through on daily and I understand 15W/50 will be the advised std oil for hydraulic lifter engines( new cowl stickers are being printed.

Oil and filter will be changed every 25 hrs with head tensions checked at same interval.

This same servicing was performed by LAME on the 120 that was just ferried to NZ in recent JabaChat( I looked at buying it before deciding on new).

  3. My 120 had some pulse spiking that was easily traced to the strobe light. The guys at Jabiru always fit chokes to limit the interference, but Jamie sent me a couple more and whilst not totally fixed, it's a lot better. Fitting the chokes as close as possible to the source of the emf is the go.Hope this helps. A poor earth somewhere can also be the culprit....

  4. I had to chuckle the other day- I yell- and I mean yell it, and I looked towards my CFI in the left seat as I did(force of habit). We have a new procedure in our school to keep headsets off until after start up, well did he get it at volume ten- I can hear a workers comp claim coming... lesson for instructors in RH seat- yell away from other pilot!!! I can still see him grimacing.

  5. Anyone interested in heading back near the Evans head area may like to come to this one- you may have seen it on the the GC VTC.Some of the guys from Caboolture, Kilcoy and Boonah are goin to Palmers Island 23 and 24 January for a fly in. Depart Boonah about 8am for the trip and will depart for the return trip 9am sunday. Word is it's only walking distance to food and amenities and the hospitality will be great. To find out more the numbers for the flyin are 0266460126 0407034282.

Info has been passed on my a friend and fellow flyer with Lightwing from Boonah, I plan to duck over to Armidale afterwards to see my mum and then back to Caboolture. Should be a great weekend:helmet::thumb_up:

  6. Hey Tomo, just like to add my 2 cents to the thread- great photo's and vid and as long as passionate pilots like yourself keep flying our recreation is in great hands. Unreal- you even got a photo of my new Jab (7279)!

Theres a fly in at Palmer Is just down the road- 23/24th Jan- some of the flying tigers from Boonah are heading down- may be a good excuse to all meet properly???

  7. Sounds like a great idea- count me in- I'm at the field most weekends and going somewhere so it would be great.A few of the Cab Aero club members have been doing the Dunwich Sunday breakfast but, Boonah, Teerwah, kilcoy, watts, Heck are all easily do-able, even for those with limited time.

BTW- Evans Hd was great- finally some good weather- see sep thread for other coments.

    Cheers

    Neil.

  8. Am heading to YARM Wed to visit mum and stay until either thurs lunch or Friday AM depending on Weather. Then Evans via Glen Innes is the plan returning YCAB sat/Sun.

Hopefully we will get some settled weather this week- Have done 17 hrs over the break but none of it in great conditions.Weather is God.

  9. Steering the beast

All the feedback below is on the right track- remember effects of controls - elevator and rudder still have some authority with propeller slipstream. Try these checks.

    1. Maintain runway heading.

    2. Confirm power off.

    3. trim to full aft ( neutral if Touch & go)- helps with rearward stick to lighten nose

    4. retract flaps.( or to t/off for T&G)

    5. Fuel pump off.( if full stop)

    6. Brake as required. Not too hard initially. specially if nose IS high( Prop care!!)

    7. Into wind wing down ( if strong X-wind)

    8. Look out for obstacles.

    9. Clear runway when safe.(radioactive.gif.1acc918ae505c8835a1c29d9312871c0.gif+ radio)

As mentioned too many pilots try to wheelbarrow the a/c down the runway with too much weight on nosewheel, at best it gives your" ultralight" nosewheel a hard time.... at worst it's lotto to when you will ground loop!018_hug.gif.8f44196246785568c4ba31412287795a.gif Hope this helps...... 10. Oakey day

Flew over from Caloundra on Sunday in a Texan:cool:, saturday was apparently attrocious with wind and dust. Sunday was a pearler and I also had a ball talking to blokes like Bill, who is part of the spitty restoration and all the locals are so passionate about preserving military A/c. I also bought an excellent DVD " Guardians of the Spitfire", it is a doco that covers this a/c's involvement in Australia and the Pacific- excellent.

I got the opportunity to take the hotseat in the Tiger as well- 8 function buttons on each control and multiple EFIS screens with interactive HUD- and that was just the stuff I could understand.

Well attended, and a great reason to leave the coast and my Tiger moth flying passenger enjoyed it too.

Well done :high 5:to the MAAF and Oakey locals.011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif

  11. This is great news and hopefully follws on from my direct mail re Natfly alternatives. I strongly support Kelvin's suggestion, and look forward to this concept progressing.

PS - (Kelvin)Got trapped at Dalby with with work, my apologies for missing WoW.

  12. Hey Bill, nice to meet you the other day at the hangar, and don't worry, your in great hands with Cressie!- He has more experience in his left pip pin than most! Look fwd to seeing you at the field.

  13. Just landed back this morning after an early departure from what was an excellent weekend at the Wide Bay Int'l airshow. The locals got right behind it and between Jabiru's and GA they probably accounted for 70% of the fly -ins there. Wind played it's hand fairly firmly on Fri and Sat but was shaping up much better this morning.

Best display of the weekend must be tied between the thundering Trojan's and the moth's- especially as they managed to keep the tied bunting in tact between the trailing pair for the whole slot- awesome given the potholes in the air all day around the airfield. Most pilots got plenty of X-wind practice and credit to the organisers for switching preference to 25 for the light arrivals on Friday!

Can't speak highly enough of the Jabiru Management and staff who made my pre- purchase visit the clincher and the " back to the nest" dinner was well worth attending as a newbie.

CASA:hittinghead: were fairly visible all weekend but not invasively so from what I saw, but as RAA grows, be certain their prescence will be increasingly noticable- part of the price we pay for increasing freedoms.

Most displays were consistant with the current front line offerings- but you might need an international off shore account to afford most of them! " as my mate commented" I can go to work and look at a screen that big all day_ I don't need it as well when I go flying!"006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

Keen to hear any other feedback on the thread.

  14. Hello Everyone- just arrived on site even tho reg'd as lurker for a year. Currently based at YCAB with my second Airborne trike and seriously contemplating purchasing a good used Jab on this site.

The Rotax crew want to dis-own me but with over 1000 jab's in service in Oz, and the local backup I would like to think it makes good sense? All the bashing seems overdone and I'm flying the CAB rec fly one in a week to get my head around them.

    Any thoughts appreciated.
