I acknowledge that your can't be bothered approach, is in the majority - thats why nothing will be done!
I am sad that neither you or your majority friends, care to even try to correct this wrong.
All you have to do is put pressure on our representative body (RAA) to put this matter "in the book" & keep it there, until is satisfactorily resolved.😈
Skip, I'm sad that you get on here and lambast those that are busy doing other things more important to them than to spend time fixing your complaint.
If ASIC is really that offensive to you, how about you do something real about it. Jerry Attrick has given you sound advice, and I agree, there are many that would support you.
But, you need to lead the push, don't expect others to fix your problems for you.
You've built a plane, you can do this if you set your mind to it.

" ......it's just the system we have."
No offence RossK but I am appalled by this statement. None of us should settle for a bad system or part thereof.
I don't like the system either, it's just I have other "fish to fry" that occupy my time.
It's about picking the battles that I'm likely to succeed in.

Skip, I don't think anyone here thinks the ASIC has any real merit, it's just the system we have.
That being said, you might get more traction with the RAAus Board members rather than the CEO, they are our elected officials.
The CEO is just there to implement the wishes of the Board.

The interesting bit from that report is that he was informed of the hit and damage by another pilot, and still chose not to do a visual inspection😮

My opinion, which is worth what you have paid for it, is that 2 of the 3 RAAus officers implicated are no longer with the organisation.
To say the whole organisation is rotten is unfair.
When I read the report, it shows that some staff within RAAus were questioning the processes, but were overuled by higher officers and legal counsel.

Just a slight aside to my posts on my trip to Tulla and Essendon. I couldn't believe how blatently motorists ignore the speed limits on the Tulla Freeway. Every 100 metres or so there is a large overhead gantry with illuminated speed signs for each lane of the freeway. Most were showing 80, which is the speed I was travelling. But just about every other motorist was tearing past me (and most likely cursing me) at speeds likely up to 100 kph or even more. Cameras on the gantries must have been having a ball.
The red arrow indicates the next gantry.
That stretch of the Tulla is terrible.
If you're doing 80 (which I do because I'm tight and dislike paying fines) you're the slowest one on the road by far.

I think they do 3 person tents😈
The Cloud up 3 person is 2kg and 35cm wider than mine, sounds pretty spacious to me.

Hi Skip, this is the gear we camp with from the plane. We try to keep it light weight.
5kg total.
This is for 2 of us, the tent and mat are cosy at best, you need to be very good friends, but that helps keep warm on colder nights.
Hasn't had much use lately, but was fine at Parkes last year.
I'm thinking of upgrading the tent to something in the 3-3.5kg range - sheer luxury.

I personally doubt they could enforce such a fine for travelling overhead or past, maybe a solicitor/lawyer on this site could confirm if enforcement was even possible as there is no clear notification in the official goverment document called ERSA.
I think they are saying if you join the circuit, then you pay a fee of some sort. Joining without PPR cops a $1500 fine.
I can't see how they have a legal basis to enforce it.

Looking at YTDN on the ERSA it shows the web site as www.ytdn.com.au and that does not work as the site cannot be found, maybe updating the web site perhaps.
Anyhoo if you go to the original address and fees: https://tooradinairport.com.au/rates-charges/ valid from Rates and Charges effective from 1st of January 2024.
There seems to be "Aircraft Landing and Movement Charges per 1000 MTOW", and maybe we are called "Private Itinerants" and for RA people I assume the group "Single Engine Piston".
The price listed is $15.95, i assume per landing maybe, and an extra charge if you park or pick up a passenger. It
RossK can you still get to the Tooradin web site you saw this message? and what web site is it?
It's on the same page as your link above.
Click the link, scoll down to "Terms and Constions of USE". Item 5.
Check out Item 4 whilst you're there. Definately not a welcoming airfield

The best way to get rid of the cat is roll inverted and it will fall away. Don't worry about the cat . They always land on their Feet and find their way home. Nev
You would need an endorsement for low level aerobatics for this manouvre.
Studies have shown cats can survive falls up to 32 stories - call it 320ft.

Why use SILLY terms like "Not Emotionally Invested"? There's not much NEW technology in a Rotax. More of a different approach. Part water cooled. Pressed up crankshaft. Weird oil return system Awful carburettors in a bad position, Expensive Bit's. Nev
All true, but it makes a bucket load of power for it's size, burns little fuel (comparably), will make it's 2000hr TBO with basic maintenance and just works consistantly and reliably.
Take in all the above and it's no wonder it's being copied.
I hope Zonsen do well. We run a couple of industrial aluminium saws sourced from China, they are now 9 years old and have performed flawlessly.

The VFR routes suck IMHO. They are typically any combination of narrow, near mountains, low level and over water.
What they have over Avalon is ideal. A nice chunk of Class E, high above the field out of the way - too easy.
-
I renewed my Basic Class 2 today. So easy, printed the form, went to my GP, who bulk bills, he filled in his bits, and signed and stamped it.
Completed the online bit in MyCasa, paid my $10 and voila... Basic Class 2 issued, and emailed.
Yes, Class 5 is easier, but the Basic Class 2 is pretty easy (and cheap) also.

On Topic....
If RAAus want to give better value to members, they would support the installation of Mogas at airfields.
Most RAAus aircraft will run very happily on 98 Mogas, and most Lycomings will too.

there are 2 ongoing cases that are be going to be trouble , especially the latest one if it falls against raaus. i actually feel for them over the latest one , if someone decides to fly in weather against other more experienced pilots advice the buck should stop with them.
Continuing the thread drift......
I agree with you on the pilots responsibility for taking off in the first place, but the trouble for RAAus in this one is they knew the training wasn't adequate and he shouldn't have been issued a XC endorsement.
Instead they sat on their hands and then tried to hide the evidence from the coroner.
A highly resepcted, long serving employee of RAAus "retired" very quickly after this came to light.

If one turbo diesel engine can run reliably for 40,000km why has the oil run its life at 10,000km in other engines? Of course the same applies to aircraft engines. I was watching the Moonie Germany to Australia movie where they change the oil at 25hrs, it's only just getting warm.
Engine design does come into it.
We run 2 late model V6 commodores, and from what I've heard is that the piston-bore clearance was enlarged to reduce friction and improve fuel ecomomy.
These are the dirtyest engines I've seen, 10,000km and the oil is black as black. They are also known to be oil burners, 1-2 litres every 10,000 is common. Holdens spec for them is up to 3L/10,000km - thats nearly half the sump capacity.
Very reliable and fuel efficient, yes. But I dont run them to the 15,000km suggested service interval without an oil and filter change.

The more you know about good techniques the better the Job will BE . IF the article is promoting something it can also be a bit biased.. .IF you have to ditch you don't have an option.. I know of a few heavies that didn't turn out so well and some seaplanes don't even make it into the air in slightly rough conditions. IF you manage to get airborne on a swell but sink back down and hit the next swell firmly you are custard. Same when Landing. The second contact is the heavy one. You may even bury the nose and that's a very sudden stop. Float planes landing wheel down, crash. Nev
The point of the avweb article was the pilot had 2 options, ditch or land on a suburban street.
The TBM Avenger ditching at sun and fun - had the option of landing on the beach.
The Piper ditching in WA also had a beach landing option
Both chose ditching and walked away.
So when you ditch, it may not be the only option. But it may just be the better one.

Has anyone used an ANR headphone conversion kit?
in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Posted · Edited by RossK
I have a set of Ians ANR headsets.
They do a good job, and are much better than any of the passive sets I have. Phone connection is quick and simple - just read the instructions 🙃
Are they as good as a set of Bose A20?
No.
Are they good value for money
Definately Yes!
