They have a facebook page. For those who may be interested.

I hope so.It would be easier. Although the sonex has a brake lever instead of independant brakes in TW configuration.Apparently the sonex handles well on the ground. Its tail wheel directly linked to the rudder via a rigid rod.I wonder if the new taildragger has toe brakes? -
Yep. It is over the top for Guys only going to fly RAA, especially minimal type ultralights. I got it from starting in GA and it has kinda stuck with me.It would sound silly I guess to a pax, when I say out loud U/c fixed.LOLYeah, I hear you daz, and I can see where you are coming from.Maybe my term "BS" was a bit strong but I was there to get signed out on the Thruster - I already had an RAAus certificate so it seemed a bit strange to teach me 'undercarriage down' on a Thruster. Correct me if I'm wrong, but recreational aircraft on the RAAus register with retractable undercarriage would be in the minority wouldn't they?Pud

I have flown 24-7600, it has a handle. So would I, coming from GA/Airlines background. There's one close by that I was thinking of going out and get checked out in. I might go out to the airport and have a look. I think the rego is 24-7600. -
We did similar a few years ago. Actually we had to postpone for 12 months as the ship , err shipped itself the day before we were supposed to leave. We had a few going in a group and it was over a easter break hence the long delay. My Mrs convinced me to go on a 7 day cruise to the pacific islands on the Pacific Dawn in May this year.... I was well and truly over it after 4 days...couldnt wait to get back off that ship.....I was totally bored shipless....but got to say the food was good...the drinks too expensive thoughI got around the drink expense issue by buying beer by the jug. When I bought a Jug they then asked me 'How many beer glasses would you like with it ?" I said One.
I got a funny look. But after I was buying & drinking jugs by myself. They kinda got used to it.LOL

Howdy Pud, I first started flying at Cooly with Gold Coast Aviation. Only for a few hours with them when I was a Ant. (Air Cadet). The reason some of us say U/C - Fixed or down & locked or more to the point , why we have U/c in our down wind checks, in the first place isI nearly wet myself in the left hand seat of the Thruster one day. The instructor in the right hand seat was going through the downwind checks I should be doing...., and called "Undercarriage down and locked". I couldn't believe the BS!!!Pudbecause, even though we where flying a trainer, we could possibly later on in our aviation careers, fly a retractable. And it is better to get the u/c check in our brains.
Unfortunately - It has happened where pilots of fixed gear are so used to going through the motions saying U/C Fixed. That they have said that in a retract, and completely forgotton to actually check. It does sound like BS & it is if it is said willy nilly without actually looking for the fictitous U/c Handle.
Since im so used to Bumpfish- If I left out eg - U & P for instance. My train of thought can go out the window. As I am so used to going throught the whole acrynom from start to finish. It is like a trigger saying Brakes, then undercarraige,The rest follows on, I think due to repetition. If that makes sense.

I would rather toe than handle brakes.
-
I would like to see Felix jump with a wing suit over the top of his space suit. But I guess his arms & legs would get ripped, clean off his torso if he deployed his limbs at the wrong time.
-
I have always used BUMPFISH for down wind
B- Brakes
U - U/c down and locked
M - Mixture rich
P- Prop fine
F-Fuel
I- instruments (including T & P)
S- Switches
H- Hatches / Harnesses.
Half the stuff a not applicable since I only fly ultralight type aircraft these days. But it is what I have always used.

The P92 Super echo, The P96 Golf And the P92 Eaglet I have flown have all had a hand brake set up. Toe brakes would be good, I guess the option is popular. All the stuff on the Tecnam web site says they have toe brakes and all bar 2 of the flight reviews I've found also say toe brakes. The 2 reviews I found were from here in Australia and they said toe brakes were optional hence the question. -
I wonder how he prevents the Kites from getting tangled in the other kite's strings ?

I used to be a Ant. 21 or 22 flight or something like that. Gold Coast. A long time ago.Cadets?? :cheezy grin:I only just left the Australian Air Force Cadets this year......I was at RAAF Amberley on a training course the day the Super Hornets flew in from the US a couple of years ago. I enjoyed my time in, but we used to always look back with envy at the photos etc of the way the Cadet Corps used to be!As awesome as it was to be there when the Hornets came in, I'm afraid the modern aircraft just don't excite me like the older ones do!Before I joined the RAAF.

No certification costs. It is kit built. Have to pay GST on the goods and freight. I reckon here built , instruments etc around $25 to 30 KI'm not a fan of the sonex looks, but the onex is very nice! Exchange rate is good for it now though isn't it? What extra costs would be incurred though if you were the first to bring one in? All the certification costs?Ak -
100 times a day is officially forum addiction. Just as well I only check in 98 times a day.

Handle.Well the one I flew did.

I watched a segment on TV this morning. The spacesuit worn on this jump may be the next suit used by NASA. I still dont know how the bloke gets the harness strapped around his balls but. They must be massive.

I couldnt think of another aircraft kit that is aerobatic, easy folding wings, uses a aerovee engine, (engine kit supplied by Sonex for about 7K) .Uses 6061 so is doesnt have to be primed/painted for corrosion resistance. All up about $22 K flyng in the USA. Here a bit more expensive, due to import costs etc.But not much.
Best bit is that Sonex now use alot of match hole technology in the onex kit. NO JIGS REQUIRED. Nice
The only down side is that it has been hit by the ugly stick a little bit.

Even the Royal New Zealand Airforce could afford to buy 12 kits & build them.Throw some guns in the wings. They would then have a full complement for a fighter Sqn.

Thank you Guys, I have learnt alot in this thread over the last few days. Cheers:thumb up:

This thread goes to show that there is way too many different acronyms used for virtually the same thing.

I used the aircraft check list pre take off. If one isnt availiable, I use the standard one .Kick the tyre and light the fire.
On down wind I used
B- I hope I didnt break the brakes
U- undercarriage ( is it still there) -I dont fly retract
M-Mixture - I hope I dont have to much air in the carby
F-Fuel - I hope I have more than 1 minute left as I have 2 minutes to run until landing.
I - Indicators/instruments-I wonder what that instrument indicates
S- Switches I Hope that one I broke earlier still works
Harness & hatches- Harness-Oops, the harness it is still flapping in the breeze, where I shut the door on it.
What EVER YOU DO - DONT use the "What does this button do " check list That could end in tears.
