Acky Posted January 11, 2011 Share Posted January 11, 2011 After an aborted flight test on saturday due to low cloud, and 24hrs of dread and worry about my upcoming rescheduled flight test, It went off mostly without a hitch on sunday, and i passed :) Did everyone else feel a little(lot) stressed when doing this? i think it was as bad, if not worse than my first solo flight! The testing Instructor should take this into account and do all he/she can to minimise your terror. As stress increases performance decreases, and stress can degrade your performance to the point of almost incapacitation. I realised about 20mins in when i realised that my stick hand was really sweaty and i had a monster grip on the stick, so i let go of the stick for a bit and had slight rethink of things......got on much better after that and it was all good from then on in. Still had the adrenalin shake at the end of the flight though. I've got some time booked on friday morning, going to do my first small venture away from the airport and training area. Looking forward too it immensely! I also recieved what seems like half a tree worth of charts and ersa today! I keep thinking more and more that the navigation might be a challenge of cockpit workload and organisation, as much as a challenge of navigation. And bugs in their teeth I've had a few flights in the last few months that would have been horrendous in an open cockpit due to the swarms of locusts! Jayz Posted January 15, 2011 Share Posted January 15, 2011 I was stressing like crazy when I did my GFPT flight test I was nervous, sweaty palms and my good old instructor kept saying just think of it as just another duel flight and you will be right and half way through I took a breath and all worked out good with a pass. Drifter long cross-countrys were great, one map tightly folded. Actually not too bad in the front of a Drifter with the big pod, and very character building ! The main problem was not getting too sunburnt on those four hour legs...you guys are very spoilt these days, and need to go back and experience some real flying while it is still around. I've heard of drifters referred to as a 'magic carpet ride'. It must be a bit odd for the first few flights having nothing around you! After i've got some hours under my belt in the Jabirus and finished the navs etc, i plan to find somewhere to learn to fly a drifter, but can't find any schools in SA that have one!
