T-28A heading for AUS.

Recommended Posts

I wish to update folk interested in the Warbird scene and fans of the sound-of-round that there is a North American T-28A being importerd into the country. The aircraft as we speak is just awaiting approvals to be exported fromthe US and will then be shipped over.

It is a T-28 'A' model. Powerplant- Wright R-1300 800HP. The airframe is basically the same as the T-28B and D models but is approx 1 Ton lighter than its modified bigger brother the 'D' but is only approximately 10-15 knts slower in cruise.

This particular aircraft has an interesting chequered history and will expand on that when the aircraft arrives with the history data. This arircraft will also be the only known flying T-28A model in the southern hemisphere. There are other T-28A's in the South. Hemisphere but as we can establish all are static museum exhibits, and the very first true unmodified 'A' model to fly in Aus, as most of the A models were converted to 'D' (T-28 D and AT-28D-5)models. The aircraft will be based in Toowoomba and we are very fortunate as we have currently got 4 T-28's based in Toowoomba 3 x D's 1 x B models and the 'A' model will make 5 of Type.

Very Exciting stuff.

Cheers Scott
