Hello Raindrops, welcome to the site.

Don't feel alone about being the only girl here, we've got plenty: Vev, Foxy, BecM, Darky, Mazda, Flying Vista, Kaz, Ignitio.. sorry Cam.. just to name a few.

Tell us more about you and your interest in flying.

Stanzahero.

Hi Stanzahero,

Thanks for the welcome!

I actually came on the forum to get some hot tips on purchasing aircraft. I'm embarking on my CPL after having done my RA Aus licence and part-way through PPL. I'm looking into the economics of buying a plane to do my CPL hours rather than hiring.

So if anyone has any ideas or knows of any shares in a plane in Perth or thereabouts, please let me know

Cheers

Who are you doing your PPL/CPL training with? If you're at Jandakot, try asking around at RACWA or maybe put a notice up on the board there. The other and cheaper option would be to join a syndicate. What type of plane are you looking for?

Aye Raindrops, Welcome!

Great to have you here, and I hope you have a great time. I'm not on the west side of Aus... so can't really help you there unfortunately!

Keep up the good work

I have found some great tips from people all over! I think I've also got RSI from playing on the computer all day too :-o hehe

rgmwa - I obtained my RA Aus Licence back in Orange, NSW. Then started converting to PPL at Mourya, NSW. Since moving to WA recently, I've decided to do my CPL Theory exams, then continue with the flying training (meaning no PPL Theory exam!). I was looking at going to Bunbury, from what I hear it'll be cheaper and easier to book in blocks of flying? I could be wrong, would be interested in anyones advice on WA flying schools. I do live in Perth, but don't mind to travel. I used to live in Cobar, NSW and train in Moruya on my time off work... gooogle.maps that one!

So after looking around at potential aircraft to maybe buy to train on... (I say again, that's a maybe)... Cessna 172 XP Hawk is on the top of the list.

I did my PPL with RACWA at Jandakot. They use 152's, 172L,N and R's for PPL, and Mooneys and Piper Seneca's for CPL training. They also have some LSA's. Here's a link: http://www.royalaeroclubwa.com.au/ It might be worth making some enquiries there as a starting point, although I'm sure there are other places that do CPL training. I'm not sure what's available down at Bunbury. The closest I got was doing T&G's down there. My instructor was (still is, I assume) in a syndicate that has a 172, but he was too busy to fly it much so he might be interested in a takeover bid. Long shot, but ask around at the office.

I don't want to sound discouraging, but you really need to do your sums on the benefits of aircraft ownership for training. Hiring may still be a cheaper and less stressful option when you take all the maintenace and insurance costs into account. If I were you, I'd get my PPL first, because most of your flying will be with an instructor anyway, and in any case you can't fly it by yourself until you've passed your GFPT. Then maybe look at ownership or part-ownership when you need to build up solo hours for your CPL, and after you've had some time to have a good look around at what's available. In any case, it's probably unlikely that a syndicate would let you in before you at least had your PPL and a reasonable amount of experience. Good luck. I'm sure you'll do very well.

Hey All

I Did my Training at Air Australia (Jandakot)

I originally purchased a share in a Syndicate for a 172, i am pretty sure its the same one you were talking about rgmwa, I must say i probably saved about $8000 over my complete CPL training. Well worth it and you can take it out when and where you want.

If anyone is interested i am currently in the process of ordering/building my own LSA aircraft and will no longer need my syndicate. I might consider selling my share in the near future.

Enjoy your training

Hello there,I'm not only new to this forum but also new to the west coast australia. So happy to hear from the folks from over here! Cheers, raindrops

Hi Raindrops

Welcome to this forum and enjoy... lots of nice people here and great information and encouragement for someone starting her career as an aviator.

Where did you arrive from and what are your future plans once you have a CPL?

I think you will find it to your financial advantage to learn in your own aircraft provided you don't have a major repair bill along the way and provided you can find an instructor who is prepared to work in it.

An XP is probably a good choice but it depends on how it is is fitted out. You might consider looking for one that will take you through to SECIR if possible.

Good luck

Hi there,

Looks like I've been offline for a while returning to lots of msgs! Ops.

Thanks for the welcome :-) I'm in Perth since moving from outback NSW. Hopefully I'll have my CPL completed by approx end of 2012.

In the end, mostly due to less complications, I think I'll look at the syndicate or just hiring. I'm slightly concerned that I wouldn't be able to sell an a/c as soon as I'd finished the training and thus having a $-sucker whilst I'm not requiring it.

Post CPL- I think I'll save up a few $ in my current job before trying to get work in aviation (expecting low pay! hehe). I'll probably try my luck at getting work flying the skydive planes, fire spotting and survey work if I can. Maybe see if there are any cadetships going at the regionals? Its still a year away, I'm sure things will change between now and then. Any ideas and suggestions are welcome though!

Cheers

Hey Raindrops, welcome along! I've done my CPL(H) and also considered buying instead of hiring to build hours but after doing the sums with insurance, purchase, maintenance, hangerage etc, it does work out much better to private hire.

I'd highly recommend checking out Minovation at jandakot, Bunbury Flying School down south and the Serpentine Airfield. With Serpentine, if you become a member there to private hire the RAAus aircraft, you could also privately hire their VH registered aircraft, I think it's a Cherokee and it's at a pretty good hourly rate as well.

How far though your CPL are you?

Hi Raindrops,

Welcome from a fellow WA aviator 002_wave.gif.62d5c7a07e46b2ae47f4cd2e61a0c301.gif Good luck with your PPL & CPL training. I'm also going to start my CPL exams soon. RACWA has some good deals for flying, if you fly during there 'off peak' periods you don't pay landing fees! I have rate sheets for Air Australia if you'd like me to message them to you.

Hello all (and Eric!),

I'm still in Qld at Bob Taits CPL Theory course.... so far so good! Though we had a delay with our Met exam when CASA's server was down, so lucky us, we all get to do BOTH the Met and Nav exam on the same day- a massive 45mins between the two.

I have ditched the idea of buying an aircraft outright and looking into a syndicate. As for training, I'll probably get back up in the air around March when my work roster changes back to 8/6. Then I can consistently (?sort of?) do blocks of training.

IF... the syndicate thing works out. That means I'd be able to train out of Jandakot.022_wink.gif.2137519eeebfc3acb3315da062b6b1c1.gif

--> I'm opening the forum to opinions of the schools at Jandakot... what's the good, bad and ugly?

I've been there a few times now, did my BAK at one and just stuck my head in for a chat at the others.

If anyone is stuck on the theory side of aviation training, I can tell you its worth coming to Bob's school. I would even recommend PPL pilots to do the CPL theory just for to get a sound knowledge behind you. In the end they would count instead of the PPL exams. Its not hard to learn, just takes a little time to listen and read all about it.

Well that's enough from me for now!

Cheers and blue skies,

Raindrops
