GloW Jet Hybrid

A few weeks ago Mike Borgelt flagged us here - http://www.recreationalflying.com/threads/new-recreational-aircraft.134028/ Mike knows a thing or two about jets in sailplanes. The ProAirsport “GloW” is a true hybrid and our cross-over proposition of simplicity, operational convenience, self-sufficiency and lower cost can - for this level of sophistication - appeal to all kinds of recreational pilots. All the thrill of a jet too!

 

Yes we are right now building two demonstration aircraft and progressing the appointment of sales and support agents around the world. Since our website went live late January it has seen more than 15,000 unique visitors and we've received over 200 sales inquiries already, including a handful from Australia. The website tells our story, the why and the wherefore - www.proairsport.com, and in the media pages there you can see the excellent Press and Media attention we are continuing to attract. We believe there is a pretty decent potential market in Australia and want to appoint a capable, enthusiastic and ambitious Australian agent as our local supremo to mastermind and lead the introduction of GloW (and all that follows) and to build a viable business around it.

Interesting that there are Australian inquiries, what category of aircraft in OZ does the GloW fall into?

 

It's not any of the ulralight ones because it has a jet and not a propeller - jets are not allowed except in 300kg single seat home built and they can't come out of a factory...

Website says MTOW is 300kg.

 

Quick squiz of CAO 95.10 says it would only require that RAA certify it meets the RAA Technical Manual.

 

Sounds possible.

 

Looks the business.

Well nobody in all the years of the AUF/RAA has ever attempted to put a kit through the requirements of Tech Manuaal 4.3 to allow a kit 95.10 ... and in any event the website looks rather more like a complete rolled out the factory aircraft - not allowed under 95.10 - and even if you DO try to do a 95.10 kit you will need an australian agent to do the documentation and jump thorugh the tech manaual hoops to get that kit approved ...

Possible but not likely

It's a self launching motor glider designed for soaring flight. I would expect registration and pilot certification would fall under the Gliding Federation.

 

There are several examples of jet equipped gliders available; mostly sustainer as opposed to self launching. Refer the JS1 which is rather popular now and several sustainer examples operate in Aus with jet engines fitted.

 

The jet engine is not unique. It's the very clever integration of the engine within the airframe and the electrically driven undercarriage which is so special about this project.

Imagine an accident report stating " I couldn't get drive off the main wheels as they were losing traction and spining on the grass during the take off phase and I hit the fnce at the end of the runway".
