Pacific Flyer Monthly Photo Competition - February 2010

Recommended Posts

That was a bit of a slow start to the year. Some nice entries for January, but not too many of them. Let's see if we can do better this month. Get snapping and post your entries here to win a 6 month subscription to Pacific Flyer magazine.

Make your mum proud.

Don't forget to have a high resolution version of your photo available for publication, and to send it to Angela at [email protected] when she announces the winners.

Also remember that if you didn't take the picture, the person who did needs to give permission for publication.

So get your entries in, and good luck all.

Navy??

Coming over the Sydney Harbour Bridge yesterday there was a Beaver cruising over it and a Jetranger hovering nearby. the Beaver turned left and the jetranger broke out of the hover and departed rather quick, then this thing popped up over the bridge at a great rate of notes managed to grab the camera and snapped this shot. has Navy written on the side. Whose navy?? Unfortunately i had it set for VGA so don't have a hi res for the comp.

That'd be our Navy. 3 of these are leased by Navy as motiviation / continuation training platforms following the demise of Seasprite and delays with SeaHawk replacement. These choppers are painted in pretty flash schemes, this looks like the black one with gold markings.

Here is a shot of the black & gold chopper:

Yeah pretty lucky with the grab and shoot. Notice how tatty the paint work on the bridge is? never would have happened back in Hoges' day.

This Pterodactyl Ascender II+ was the second aircraft I have owned, being flown here in October 1989 by my mate Johnno. I'm flying the pink Drifter 'Floyd' with one hand and photographing with the other: the dumb things you do when you're young!

Don't try this at home, folks! 031_loopy.gif.e6c12871a67563904dadc7a0d20945bf.gif

This Pterodactyl was built from a kit in 1984 by Nicholas Lord in NSW and operated unregistered in the time before ultralights were required to be registered. It was powered by a Cuyuna 430R with belt-drive reduction gear and had two plastic 20L drums for fuel tanks giving about 5h endurance.

I bought it in 1989 and registered it, but only did a couple of hops in it. The aircraft was later acquired by the Museum of Victoria and was on display for many years at Scienceworks museum.

You've been saving this one Philthy!

It's gotta be a winner for it's nostalgia value alone, though there are many fine photos in this month.

Philthy that the winner by far. I wonder if you had a formation certificate back then :-) It appears to be a real slow flight, not a hair out of place and your jeans aren't riding up your legs. Nice one.
