facthunter
Slide sticking /Bing carb. Having the slide stick open will give a LEAN mixture. I think the FAA types have placed their presumption and conclusion on the fact that the tapered needle is at the highest fuel delivery point, without due regard for the fact that the slide being wide open admits more air but at a lower velocity than the calibration of the carb is set for. The lower velocity occurs because the throttle position is not wide open. Under these conditions there is not enough velocity to pull the normal flow out of the jet, and the mixture goes LEAN. Anyone who has tuned SU carbs or worked with motorcycles with CV carbs, would Know that the slide sticking up or putting less weight or a lighter spring on the dashpot piston, will make it go LEAN.
