  1. Coverage maps tell lies……the truth lies in actual field testing with a consumers phone.
  2. I have no sympathy for Council and State Water Supply SCADA systems that once used dedicated UHF commercial radio links and smart engineers changed over to 3rd party mobile phone systems to carry the system data. I always said, never put your data bearers in the hands of a third party. Every system I designed or commissioned used dedicated radio links that were owner maintained, by their nominated equipment supplier. Seems the wheel has turned now, with 3G disappearing. I will watch and…….wait.
  3. Yep, my old iPhone 4S is still running like a clock, until ‘D’ (disconnect) day…….
  4. I have global Internet coverage via HF Radio…….cant talk, but can send emails IF the whole of the Internet crashes all over Australia.
  5. Drop it down on the highway…….and take off 🤩
  6. Word on the street is SAAA are leaving Narromine for greener pastures, the lease charges have seen to that……
  7. I suspect you have fallen foul of an increasingly complex system that will see RAA want, possibly serious money to get signed off in the long run. I started down this road to fit a Ballistic Recovery Chute to my 19 reg aircraft. MARAP was all too hard. So, I have a wearable slim pack chute I can wear while flying, if thinks turn bad I can just bail out 🤩
  8. Well, way above what I thought it would be. Watch Cessna 150’s go up in value?
  9. No Kieth, Us lemming members will just suck it up and keep paying as there is nowhere else to go, well there is but……..
  10. If that is the case, no point moaning here about what was done in changing the structure, those that voted for that, screwed the pooch by the look of it. I would allege RAAus doing nothing except collect membership dues, aircraft rego, and browbeat the current maintenance regime into the ground, until many people give up. They turn up at air shows, flying-ins to foster Aviation on one hand but on the other the maintenance training regime does not exist as it should. Handballing it to TAFE, is a cop out. CASA should pull RAAus ticket and look at SAAA.
  11. Well, I hear horror stories from people I actually speak to, been aviators for years and RAAus is not very popular, for a long time with many people. There are many incorrectly maintained aircraft flying, but I won’t say anymore on that. Suffice to say the current L2 situation getting worse over time, and the standover attitude of RAAus has caused problems in the past and not looking any better for the future, unless they change attitude and get a bit more professional. The company structure principle has stuffed it, in my opinion.
  12. Word on the street is……no one has applied for. 760kg yet, if it’s true?
  13. RAAus are interested in training pilots and L1’s and after that…….?
  14. The money cost to RAAus would probably prohibit their interest, because what TAFE would want. But in reality it really should be run by RAAus or SAAA themselves.
  15. Myself being an SAAA member, I have enquired there and I believe they have training plans afoot but not sure how progressed it is, and I am not sure of the syllabus planning either, I may have more info after the Wentworth Flyin. I wanted to attend that but unfortunately I cannot. RAA in handballing it off to TAFE? Well I guess that will be the end of any L2 training? Maybe CASA need to make it part of their charter?
  16. Correct me IF I am wrong, but I have never seen an L2 Maintainers Course advertised by RAAus? Applications for Scolarships? Thanks for link.
  17. That was a link off the CASA Part-149 page…….maybe it was broken?
  18. It lies deep in the bowels of Part-149, according to a phone conversation I had, but even CASA say on their page if i have trouble with it, to contact them. https://www.legislation.gov.au/help-and-resources/using-the-legislation-register/known-issues
  19. I am more interested in the future policy for training L2s as many of the current problems will solve themselves if we grow the L2 population. IF RAA pull any L2s Authority for what ever reason, then that will be even less people to do L2 work. So, will RAA bite the bullet on L2 training? All I have heard is Crickets………..
  20. That person I spoke with should only ever be a switchboard operator looking after 3 extensions, any more would be an overload for them……..
  21. I got brushed off, on my phone call and was told ‘ we don’t care if your wings are stuck on with blue tack’. End of call 🤢
  22. True but, it’s obvious the system is not working and enforcement as it stands seems to have problems. Then RAA’s crash. investigations policy……?
  23. I make many assumptions in my life to spawn criticism and comment, it’s done in an effort for more authoritive people to clear the air or stimulate debate on an issue that has problems. We have people state problems with ACRs and possible enforcement of their credibility. So where to now? Knowing human beings, I suspect not much…….
  24. The whole thing as it stands, could turn into a legal minefield……. No one wants to go there but, if there is a dispute for whatever reason……it will cost someone time and money. Really, As has been said it’s right being the aircraft sellers or buyers responsibility to get their aircraft checked before sale/purchase. Just like it’s the PICs responsibility for all check lists to be run before and during and after flight. In my case I detailed a work list to the dealer I bought from. It was allegedly done and signed off, in reality it did not happen. I did my own inspection later and grounded the aircraft. So I accepted the fact it was up to me to make it airworth and get it signed off. We could probably argue all this for weeks and get nowhere, but I suspect angst from people against some RAA decisions. Now back to my question asked a few days back…..can RAA request your logbook, for their inspection?
  25. RAA does not want to investigate accidents now. IF Pilot dies, RAA wont bother either. It will just get all too hard for them, a payout on their insurance might stir some action, but I doubt it.
