Awesome.
Thanks for that.
Now that one sounds right! I love that Merlin.
Not like the Isuzus at Wagga.

Geoff,
women are complex creatures. I think if you examine those options carefully you'll find they aren't mutually exclusive.
She means all 3.
My qualification to make that call? I've been married 3 times.
Read into that what you will (and take my advice accordingly).
Thanks for logging your progress in this thread. It's been very illuminating.
I would love to build one day, but I think my 1st aircraft will be second hand.
Hope you are airborne soon,
Ross

Thanks for that Clem.
I'm no aviation expert, and to me the blue/green one sounded more like a Spitfire should. I had been told about the Isuzu in the grey one and assumed from the sound that the other was more original.
Whoever was talking about the Isuzu said Mr Honda himself had told him that it was really a Honda engine.

No worries.
Yeah - it's the same here in Canberra.
The flies in Wagga seem to be enjoying the weather though. The stickiest little buggers I've seen for ages. The type that totally ignore the aussie salute.

Captain - as requested (in Wagga pics thread), here's many of the pics I took on Sunday.
Note - many ppl had gone home. Still some interesting shots.

I hope that's not too many photos for anyone.
I had a great time at my 1st fly-in - it won't be my last.
Definitely starting on the path now.

I didn't catch the weight, but I did see severe vibration while being run up. Looked very unbalanced.Could not find any info on the jab 2 cylinder enginedoes anyone know the weight? Thanks
Here's a photo with Mr Corby himself giving it a whirl.

I have some other pics if anyone is interested.
I flew up on Sunday morning from Cooma in perfect conditions (although it was -7 degrees when I got to the airfield) in Adrian's Jabiru with Ian's Corby Starlet on our wing the whole way.
Not quite so smooth coming home at lunchtime - everybody left Wagga pretty early so we did too.
This was my 1st ultralight flight (only microlights, gliders and hang-gliders before) and it was absolutely awesome.
I will be starting lessons in the Jab ASAP.

Here's my old beast.

This photo is circa 1979 - sorry about the quality. It's a scan of an old photo I found lying around.
Don't ask what my friend is doing to my other friend - focus on the bike.
This was during a 7 week trip up the center to Darwin and around the top to Perth and back to Canberra when there was a lot of dirt and bulldust to negotiate.
I still have her (the bike) but she needs a rebuild.
Those were the days.
Here's one where Azaria was killed a month later.

I saw how agro the dingos were in the campsite.
I believed.

Cool Matt. Thanks for the info.
I flew to YCOM (via YPFT - ah memories) tonight in FS9 after loading VOZ and Mr Fogarty's excellent Canberra scenery. Great flight.
Paul, I guess you never get Sou'Westers or Nor'Easters there?
Thanks for the cost info too Matt. About to start a job where I can afford the flying but not the time. Ain't that always the way?
I'm getting ahead of myself though - hence reinstallation of FS2004.
Time to get some training the cheap way in preparation.
As Douglas Adams said,
"flying is simply the art of throwing yourself at the ground and missing"

Thanks for the replies guys.
Cheers for the numbers Matt. I presume you have to park on the apron at Canberra - no hangar? What's the cost for that? It would be great to have my aircraft that handy.
I had to look up YCOM Paul - didn't know it was there.
I had found the SRA website a few days ago and thought about it. I was a little daunted at the thought of sharing all those start-up costs for a new airfield and buildings. Seemed easier and cheaper to benefit from the fruits of those who have gone before.
On the other hand, the sense of comraderie and achievement from being there at the roots would be worth something.
Thanks for the PM offer, but I might just use the published phone details when I am ready.
I have been informed that I won't have much time to myself for the next few months:;)4:. We are getting ready to sell our house and find another.
I will at least organise a TIF soon.
Thanks again.

Hi all.
Great forum. I have been reading many topics in the last few days and thought I'd better introduce myself.
I used to fly gliders out of Polo Flat a long time ago (nearly 30 years I think) before the Canberra Glider Club got their own airfield at Bunyan. I then moved into Hang Gliders, but haven't flown anything much for quite a while.
Until last week when I finally got the chance to visit my uncle and fly his Airborne Edge-X out of Mangalore (been meaning to for about a decade).
I found it a fantastic machine.
I now have the bug severely rekindled and am looking at getting airborne again - this time with some power for the extra freedom it provides.
I have been looking for someone nearish to Canberra who provides trike training. Can't find anything short of Tumut. I have also been looking at some of the great ultralights you guys fly and can't think of a good reason not to give them a go.
Can anyone provide some info on training options in or around Canberra? I see PaulN flies out of PFT in Cooma. Is there training there? (I have found a phone number to call, but any info here would be appreciated). That would do nicely - take me back to the days of racing my bike down the Monaro to spend the day gliding.
Bit long winded - sorry.
Hope to join you in the air soon.

Getting Spam???

Haha - that's a classic.
Thanks for that Ross.
I'm still chuckling as I post.
Oh - and to try to add value to the thread:
I too would recommend MailWasher. It allows you to screen the emails before you dowload them from the mailserver. If you determine it's spam, you can add it to the list. Anything on the list can be bounced back to the sender as if it had been sent to an invalid address. This goes a long way toward reducing the spam.
I changed email addresses about 12 months ago and haven't had a single bit of spam since (don't need MailWasher anymore).
If you are careful where you put your address, you can live spam free.
