A couple of points about the show (and some topics from various threads…)

    • There were 3 slings on show. Bernie just showed you the dream machine. The Sling 2 is much more affordable (for various descriptions of ‘affordable’), especially in kit form.
    • If you want cheap, the powered parachutes were there (~$5k up for 2nd hand, $35k new). Take off easy from a small paddock. Fly low and slow. Sounds like a pretty good replacement  for 103 to me (but that’s not my thing, so don’t yell at me for suggesting it).
    • I had a yarn with the Dexter, the Atec distributor (haven’t seen him for years). The low Aussie $ is not making his job any easier.
    • I asked about CTA transit rather than full access, but the view was that the required training was the same for both, so there was no advantage in doing one before the other.
    • Errol (GAP - BushCat distributors) confirmed that BushCats were not being manufactured any more, but the parent company (who actually manufacture all the parts) was doing well and will be continuing to supply spares. He said that when sales started to decline, they put up their prices to maintain margin, which of course made sales decline even further ‘til it was terminal.
    • I was really interested in the AvPULP product. Essentially, mogas with guaranteed quality control end to end, and guaranteed no Ethanol and high end volatiles. Currently only available at one airport (Victorian, but don’t remember which one), but promising quite a few more within 12 months. It will only be installed at airports that will consume sufficient quantities, so don’t expect to find it at Upper Cumbucta International. They claimed that the price would be comparable with servo mogas.
    • Saturday crowd was mostly aviation types (ie all ancient - myself included), but Sunday was largely young families. Just maybe a dream or two were born in little brains. 🙂
    • The only down side to the weekend that I noticed was that because the visiting aircraft were parked airside, you couldn’t wander around having a gawk. Had to satisfy myself with the ones parked in the under wing camping area that was accessible. Regardless, happy I went.

Yltv. Latrobe valley has a new mogas ior Bowser , installed recently.

    thread drift.

Brendan, have you decided what you will do ? That nearby low cost C150 sounds good, but is that GA training or RAAaus group G ? You need to complete whatever you started (IE RAAus) for minimum cost, otherwise you'll be starting again.... and that will be frustrating.  I learned to fly at 49, it can be done.

Although I think i'll never be as intuitive in my manipulation of the controls as someone who learned in their early 20s.......I think can make up for that with cognitive ability,

Just like skiing. I learned when I was 18, but even those that ski rarely, but who learned when they were 6, ski with more fluency.

Hi Glen. I spoke to the instructor while i was at the airfield this morning. They are now shifting all of us from raaus to ga rpl  . Because they have brought a c152 online and the club is looking buying another one. This way they can match the raaus rates and most of the younger students are working towards RPL anyway. And the instructor is going to make sure I get the time I need to finish solo starting this week.

The unlicensed pilot in command flying alone not harming anybody may come to grief on a wire. That wire may be the major communication backbone of a remote outback town where a medical emergency has just occurred; eddy the town sergeant has just had a heart attack and requires immediate flying doctor service which just had a near midair with an unidentified light aircraft that ended up hitting wires... with sergeant eddy motionless on the floor, billy the prisoner steals eddy's gun and car keys and goes on an outback rampage after stealing a case of beer from the pub at gunpoint.. with lights and siren blaring billy moves through eighteen communities and six towns mustering support..  within a few short hours billy's gang has swollen to a hoard of angry outback mob continuing to rampage across the dry sunburnt earth in a collection of toyota troopies and mitsubishi pajeros; sergeant eddy is now long dead and the flying doctor PIC is filling out a casa report in a non air conditioned demountable in broome. Bad bad billy meanwhile continues his rage across the outback with his gang breaking into and taking over woomera and pine gap military bases blacking out australia's contribution to the five eyes initiative, resulting in an extended global nuclear exchange due to important messages not getting through between evil people on one side and evil people on the other, causing the internet tiktok and chatgpt to all go off line.. the entire world population under 65 goes nuts and totally looses all capacity to engage with each other causing an apocalypse... all because one guy thought he will fly his bin chicken around without an asic or registration... Exactly what I thought would happen😂😂

EVERY person who observes what they Think May be a dangerous Activity affecting Aviation is required to notify the CASA.  That's the LAW. There would be significant penalties applying if any of this was followed up. Don't shoot ME. I'm only the messenger..

Also  remember that Ignorance of the LAW is NOT an excuse. Nev

What do you class as a dangerous activity. People flying small aircraft without passengers in rural areas are hardly a danger to anyone but themselves.

Word I get is that Qld is an unlicenced  pilots Mecca, and has been for years. Not enough resources to police it.  That costs money they won’t spend, besides IF someone crashes they probably don’t get to know, unless the pilot dies 🤢 What do they do?  Take his/her estate to Court?  RAA won’t investigate anything anyway.  It’s all under the radar unless someone gets caught red handed

Raaus don't want to chase unlicensed pilots because they can't fine anyone anyway, they are a company. All they can do is pass it on to casa and they don't care unless something goes wrong.

Cessna 150 dual in YLEG $264.

Send me a PM if interested.

Bosi has made a generous offer if I decide to go ga I will be taking him up on it. I have found someone local who is going through the conversion to raa instructor now. Will wait and see how he gets on.

One of them thumbed his nose like that just before the last CASA audit of RA aircraft which took out a lot of non compliant RA aircraft pretty much overnight. It was surprising how they knew just where to look for the illegal planes.

When did that happen. How many were caught. What were the fines. Do you have any documented proof.

A fair point. But people are going to want to see thousands of hours running first. UL Power engines have this problem right now. Not many people want to be the guinea pigs. Mind you, the ZD has a huge advantage of other contenders in that it is a drop in for anything ROtax powered. I know on my plane it would be a pain in the arse to fit anything other than a Rotax compatible...

Yes. Competing with the reputation of Rotax is a huge task. They need to sell thousands to get the reputation but people won't buy them without it.

In my direct dealing with the mfr , it's about 2/3 the price and I explained to them people if they were goign to spend 20,000, then they'd spend 30,000 and just buy the real thing. so them they offered another 20% off.

BrendAn. 12k US or aussiue ? 12k USD sounds right.

Must have been USD. Although that was a while I go and I haven't heard that he actually went ahead with them.

  11. 8 minutes ago, Kyle Communications said:

I enquired direct to Zongshen about them when they first appeared about 2 or 3 years ago..they wanted you to buy 4 engines to be a dealer and at the time they would have been about 28k aussie..the rotax was 32k aussie

no one would buy them.  the bloke i heard about reckoned he was getting a container load for 12k each but he might have talking crap too.

  12. 22 minutes ago, Kyle Communications said:

26k US$ is about 38K aussie.....the rotax here is about the same price now

do you seriously think they would ask the same price as rotax.  they only cost about 12k au landed here from what i have heard. 38 would be a good markup.

if they do ask rotax price they will never sell an engine .

The USA and Canada agent has pricing on the website and its only a couple of thousand less in the USA than a genuine rotax

matt did mention the price he paid in one of the videos and it was a lot less. but like i said, maybe he got an extra good deal.

They are not that much cheaper than a rotax though....if they were 10k cheaper then ok but they are only about 5k cheaper

i think that bloke in canada got his for half the price of a 912, may have got a real good deal too, for advertising.

even so ,if they prove to be as good as a rotax i would buy one if it left 5000 in my pocket. only time will tell.

there are plenty in rural areas.   a friend of the family had 3 cessnas over the years. did a lap of aus. flew everywhere. never questioned or had a ramp check in his life. never had a rpl either, i don't think he even had lessons.

the issue would have been if he had an accident with passengers.

How much will CASA . EXPECT ?

    IT WOULDN'T BE CHEAP

    by any one's expectations.

    No licene/certificate,

Throw the book at him, will be the cry ! .

    spacesailor

there are probably nearly as many rec pilots flying unlicensed as there are licensed.  no one evers checks unless something goes wrong. lots of pilots out there that haven't done bfrs for years.
