  1. Nothing I'd hope since he doesn't have a CPL
  2. I'd imagine there would also be insurance issues
  3. (Moderator - sorry again Darks, cleaning up as per earlier)
  4. He will. He's also threatened to show me how to 'dress' (I think?) a rabbit. I'm not enthusiastic.
  5. I'll try that. Speaking of seasickness, I get seasick, which he's delighted about since he doesn't get seasick at all
  6. I will, but as you might note, that isn't the topic of this thread. We aren't going 'round and round' anything cfi.
  7. Well he has told me a few times that I need to get an FI rating so I can teach him. Alas, at the moment, I don't have the rating so I'd be relegated to pax if he learnt to fly...
  8. Pfft, he can't afford my honour! Well, it is the truth
  9. Thanks for the replies guys :) Also, to those who (1) offered themselves as a replacement and/or (2) suggested I trade him in, he, and I quote, challenges you to "the manly art of fisticuffs"
  10. Hi all, I'm looking for tips about how to deal with airsick pax and, mainly, try to prevent it or help them get used to it. My boyfriend gets airsick, which is kind of unfortunate since I'm a pilot, and while he's keen to come flying, I always feel terrible (and nervous for the fate of me having to clean the aircraft) when he starts feeling airsick partway through the flight. He's reluctant to try airsickness pills in case they make it worse. Does anyone have tips about how to deal with, or preferably, prevent airsickness? I always carry sick bags, and have air vents open and try to fly smoothly etc, but if anyone has tips, I'd welcome them.
  11. That's what I'm thinking of doing, just taking an FI along to save the bother of doing a checkflight etc. Next step is to plan where in NZ we intend to go so I know what airfields to contact I spose!
  12. Hi all, I'm considering going to NZ for a couple of weeks in Dec and was wondering whether I'd be able to fly there. I'm assumed an Australian PPL would be valid in NZ? Would it be more sensible to fly with an FI since I don't have lots of experience flying in mountainous areas and all the fun that comes with that? Suggestions about where to fly are also welcome :) Cheers!
  13. To those who want to ask CASA for a CTA endo, all I can say is be careful how far you push them. As I understand it, RA operates because CASA have granted them exemptions. They can just as easily take those exemptions away if you push them too far. RA does NOT need CTA. VFR lanes perhaps, I can see the logic behind those, but not full CTA. The purpose of RA is cheap fun flying. I honestly don't understand how you can even remotely think you have a chance of getting a CTA endo for RA - it hardly fits in with what RA was designed for. Either continue flying RA, with the sacrifices that involves, or go to GA. It's not difficult.
  14. If you want cheap RA flying, that's just something you have to deal with. As I said before, you can't have the best of both worlds, you make sacrifices for the cheap fun RA flying. I drive 40 mins to my field and would drive an hour if I needed to. The distance doesn't outweigh the joy I get from flying.
  15. If you want CTA, go GA. I don't see why people are so determined that RA should have the privileges (in this case, the word is correct) of GA without the extra requirements of GA. You choose RA because you want cheap fun recreational flying, which is fantastic, but you also choose it knowing that along with that benefit comes some restrictions. If you don't like those restrictions, then clearly RA, as it's designed, isn't for you. You can't have the best of both worlds. It's either cheap and fun or more expensive but with more options.
  16. Hi all, One of my plans for the summer is to try flying a Drifter (and maybe get my LP endo if I like it). Does anyone know of anywhere around Melbourne that trains with Drifters? I know the school at Sunbury has a Drifter, but does anyone know of anywhere with one on the eastern/northern side of the city? Cheers!

  18. I can sympathise with you Red. If you take a look at my blog you'll find quite a few posts with me bemoaning about whether I'll ever learn to land. I still do some absolute shockers too - best one in the last few months was during a PPL training flight where I tried to do a flapless landing with a final approach speed of 100kts (I wish I was joking)...luckily I realised before I got below 50ft and tried to actually land the thing! My FI just looked bemused The thing that fixed me was putting a cushion under me, but I'm not sure if you're as vertically challenged as I am so may not have the same problem. Another thing I did was to 'fly' circuits in my backyard - I walked endless circles around my lawn making the calls at each corner and doing my downwind checks etc - it definitely helped me get it cemented in my head so I didn't have to think about it so much while I was flying. A final thought is, what is your mental attitude when you come in to land? For a while I was always thinking 'oh no, time to land, I wonder what I'll mess up this time etc' and knowing that my FI was mentally (and sometimes physically) getting into the 'ready position' didn't help, then (after my solo I admit, but hopefully the advice/idea is still valid), I started thinking instead 'ok, time to land, let's do this thing!' and not doubting whether or not I *could* land it, just getting on with it. Just a thought anyway :)
  19. No chance of that motzie, it's locked down tight
  20. I got this my copy of this months magazine last night. Idly flicking through it this morning, I noticed that most of the 'letters to the editor' had familiar names (including mine, which was a surprise since I didn't recall sending a letter to an editor). Do they count as 'letters to the editor' when they're taken from a forum?
  21. I have heard another incident of this exact same thing occurring in a Sporty. Perhaps there is an issue with the latches on some of them? (not casting blame/liability, just posing a thought)
