I have enjoyed your dad's films of gliding at Mt Isa. They are classics. Thanks for posting them.

True, it would be better if there markers. But, presumably, the pilot did a full circuit. That's what a circuit is for - to pick up things like power lines.where are the markers? that close to the runway really needs to be visable. poor buggers -

Unfortunately flying was cancelled yesterday (Jan 12) and today (Jan 13) because of weather. The forecast does not look good for the next few days - all the side effect of the cyclone off the WA coast.

Those Duo Discus (Discii?) are nice looking planes, aren't they.

Those of you who want to see XCSoar / SkyLines in action can go to the VH-GOT real time display - presently flying in the QLD comps.

These movies are great. If you have any more you should not procrastinate. Digitize them now!I just got this finally digitalized on Youtube... Some of the Sailplanes shown flying here are truly rare... the Kangaroo was one of only two built... and if you can spot the even rarer Australian built Sailplane let me know because I am not 100% certain of its name and origin. -
I've never seen a Wilga in the "metal" but I think they have a type of utilitarian beauty. From what I understand they are well liked by their pilots. Does anybody know how many there are in Australia?I love the grace and beauty of the gliders. TheWilga's on the other hand are a bit on the ugly side. -
More brass from 45 years ago.

Wave soaring in northen Sweden / Finland in winter. These guys must have a "lot of brass" - way too rugged for me.

Thanks Mike, but I get Soaring Australia mags myself and I have read them. There is a risk in buying a Blanik for mod as you say. If I was in the market for a Blanik this alone would be enough to put me off. So, I think that they are history, I'm afraid. Its a pity because they trained a couple of generations of pilots.Hi Met The recently modified Blanik cost $30K and another $6K spent on some paint work and avionics. Therefore the 1.5K Blanik would cost at least $31,500.00 to get airbourne. It is still good value at that price. (One further thing to know is that any Blanik undergoing the modification requires a full inspection of the airframe and wing components and there is a chance of the aircraft not being suitable to modify. By this I mean the first about $14,000 is the cost is for opening up and examining, so it would be a shock to give the go ahead and then find out not suitable and get the 14k invoice. Need to do your homework. And there will quite a number of Blaniks available for a price. There are some articles on the modification and Jig used in recent past soaring australia magazines. If you want a scan copy PM me with your email and I'll chase up a copy.Cheers

That Word document does not work very easily for me - and may be others. Can you post is as a PDF?I have attached a copy of the reminder / cheat sheet for XCSoar that I share with some friends and also has Mio on it for WAC charts in Ozi explorer type programs.May be of assistance to people who are new to using the program.Cheers
