  1. I'll be there.

It was at the 2009 airshow that I first heard about Recreational Flying. What a difference a couple of years make - since then, earned my certificate, Xcountry and passenger endorsement, and happy as a (insert your own slightly dodgy reference here) pig in mud. This time I'll understand what everyone was talking about.

Tomo, can you wear a big sign round your neck? Like to meet and greet with as many other forumites.

    Cheers

  2. So you can make optus phone calls with the MyTab...crikey, pity about the specs and the screen though otherwise I would consider giving my Samsung Galaxy S to the wife and getting one of these...you know you can even get tablets now that have dual boot to either Android or Windows 7...all they need now is to speed up WiFi to an exceptable speed to have a hard disk and DVD burner in the cupboard and we are truly mobile around the house

However, having used the mytab with its resistive screen, AND my garmin a50 capacitive screen, I dont find the resistive screen limiting for me, and the way I use it. The WiFi speed is fine, as well. And now that my wife is doing a uni course and dominating the laptop full time, the Mytab is good enough around home for the emailing and browsing as well....

The android app Androzic has moving map display with the Maptrax supplied oziexplorer files (ok, its not as polished as Oziexplorer)

Some people prefer an iPad (I prob would as well if I had a spare $700), but like they say, "horses for courses" - it does exactly what I want, and it is more than fast enough for what I want, and the size is perfect.

  3. Good on ya Pud. been watching the progress on here and I think its a real credit that you persevered to produce a machine that looks "best of breed" (Sorry, I just cant bring myself to call it beautiful)

All the best for Saturday and the future...

  4. Flight Operations Notice - From ****** AirwaysThere appears to be some confusion over the new pilot role titles. This notice will hopefully clear up any misunderstandings.

The titles P1, P2 and Co-Pilot will now cease to have any meaning, within the Operations Manual.

They are to be replaced by Handling Pilot, Non-Handling Pilot, Non-Handling Landing Pilot, Handling Non-Landing Pilot and Non-Handling Non-Landing Pilot.

The Landing Pilot is initially the Handling Pilot and will handle the take-off and landing except in role reversal when he is the Non-Handling Pilot for taxi until the Handling Non-Landing Pilot hands the handling to the Landing Pilot at 80 knots.

The Non-Landing (Non-Handling, since the Landing Pilot is handling) Pilot reads the checklist to the Handling Pilot until after the Before Descent Checklist completion. Then the Handling Landing Pilot hands the handling to the Non- Handling Non-Landing Pilot who then becomes the Handling Non-Landing Pilot.

The Landing Pilot is the Non-Handling Pilot until the "Decision Altitude" call, when the Handling Non-Landing Pilot hands the handling to the Non-Handling Landing Pilot, unless the latter calls "Go Around", in which case the Handling Non-Landing Pilot continues handling and the Non-Handling Landing Pilot continues non-handling until the next call of "Land" or "Go Around", as appropriate.

In view of the recent confusion over these rules, it was deemed necessary to restate them clearly.

Are you sure this isnt an old Marx Brothers script??????

  5. Can confirm that 19-4507 is still for sale, presently de-rigged, and hiding in my hangar.Arthur.

    Geeze that's a sad sight...051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

Often wonder how many aircraft are sitting unused in hangars all round Australia. Perhaps a register of underused/unloved aircraft could be matched with pilots without the resources to buy their own aircraft so both pilots and those aircraft dont get too rusty. (Sounds like a job for Ian and SUPER CMS 008_roflmao.gif.692a1fa1bc264885482c2a384583e343.gif)

  6. SE Qld ALA waypoints

    Ken,

I've attached a set of south east Queensland airports and ALAs. These can be loaded into the PC AND the GPS. I use this to generate a track on the PC, which I then load onto the GPS. This may make life a little easier than plugging them in by hand. (Unzip the file first). They work well on mine, but be sure to check that they overlap your map correctly.

    Cheers

  7. Mile for mile and hour for hour, we kill ourselves seven times more often than folks in cars. The old saying: "the most dangerous thing about this flight was the drive to the airport" is only true for RPT.

    Which got me thinking.....

Are there any flight accident statistics available from RAA or CASA? It would be interesting to know what trends (if any) show up - for example, is it true about the oft quoted stat that you are most likely to have an accident/incident with approx 100 hours, or is that just another urban myth? What about accindent breakdown via aircraft type / engine type / age of pilot / experience of pilot / etc........

  8. Basically, just refer to Avagadros law.... (warning - science content ahead)

Avogadro's law (sometimes referred to as Avogadro's hypothesis or Avogadro's principle) is a gas law named after Amedeo Avogadro who, in 1811, hypothesized that two given samples of an ideal gas, at the same temperature, pressure and volume, contain the same number of molecules. Thus, the number of molecules or atoms in a specific volume of gas is independent of their size or the molar mass of the gas.

For example, 1 litre of molecular hydrogen and 1 litre of nitrogen contain the same number of molecules when they are at the same temperature and pressure.
