  1. The propeller is just a big fan in the front of the plane to keep the pilot cool. Want proof? Make it stop; then watch the pilot break out into a sweat.
  2. It would be horrendously complex, and ultimately expensive to allow the older GA aircraft onto the RAA register. If we did go to the 760kg limit, ( I for one would vote against it ) then in my opinion it should be only for NEW aircraft designed and built with a view to being flown, operated and maintained within a recreational environment. Davidh
  3. All agreed that the sensation of coasting on the air was delightful. — Octave Chanute, regards people who tried his gliders, 1894.
  4. Envy doth ill become the bitumen bound
  5. Think ahead of your airplane.
  6. As I understand it The use of the rudder is to keep the forces acting on the aircraft in balance. The ball gives you an indication of how well those forces are balanced AFTER the event. There is a time lag between the aircraft doing something and the ball recording that event. Imagine a bicycle fitted with a inclinometer ball and trying to ride that bicycle on an ice rink. If you keep all the forces in balance you will be able to execute turns on the ice and the ball will stay in the centre. However if you concentrate on the ball rather than the bicycle you will probably crash when the wheels skid out from under you.

  13. An airplane will probably fly a little bit overgross but it sure won't fly without fuel.
  14. Most gulls don't bother to learn more than the simplest facts of flight -- how to get from shore to food and back again. For most gulls, it is not flying that matters, but eating. For this gull, though, it was not eating that mattered, but flight. More than anything else, Jonathan Livingston Seagull loved to fly. *************— Richard Bach, 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'
  15. It's better to be down here wishing you were up there, than up there wishing you were down here.
