  1. I am by no means suggesting that we censor these videos, I was just making a statement. Pilots were making this mistake long before Youtube. Even if you did ban or censor them I do not believe it would help, as f_t said " you can't ban stupidity".
  2. Well 6 pages on and I think Ole Kev has done what he set out to do, make us sit up, take notice and most of all THINK. Yes he can have the tact of a Pitbull and he is not everybodies cup of tea but having spend a number of hours with him he does practice what he preaches and he can most certainly fly and do so safely, you do not spend a life as an Ag pilot and live to tell the tale by NOT being safe. It is this that he teaches his students as well as how to fly. I was at his place when this topic was discussed after a recent accident and I can confirm it was written out of frustration. I have read and seen the videos on these pages and from an instructors point of view you can not teach that it is possible with A/C "A" but not with A/C "B", you must teach a sure fire technique for any A/C and that is "In the event of an engine failure after take off we will land straight ahead".(The Psalm according to St Kev). I believe some of these videos, the 1 of the C182 in particular, does little to help as I am convinced that the engine was not at idle and was done at 500ft. Some student will see this and push his luck. Thes types of videos can do more harm than good. Bottom line I suppose is landing straight ahead has been taught for years and the stats prove that it works. My 2c
  3. I see Airnav Pro has launched an Android version of there popular app. I use the apple version and it works well. I have not yet tried the android version yet but some reports are that it is good but needs some work as yet. No doubt the bugs will be worked out with updates. At about $27-00 still not bad. Will try it as soon as my wife lets me have her Asus for a few minutes:please:
  4. It is there but only available in the USA, hang in there I am sure it will reach our skies soon:augie:
  5. Hi Jabiru, This app is available for both Apple & Android but is not available outside the USA at the moment. Give a bit of time and it will go world wide, I wait with baited breath:augie:
  6. I see Garmin have released an app for both Apple and Android. It is available for 30 day free trial, have not tried it yet but will as soon as I get a chance. At $99-00 a year subscription a bit pricey compared to a few others out there but I have found Garmin products reliable in the past. Anyone tried it? Let us know See: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=115856
  7. I received tis today You're a 19 year old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam .. It's November 11, 1967. LZ (landing zone) X-ray. Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense from 100 yards away, that your CO (commanding officer) has ordered the helicopters to stop coming in. You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter. You look up to see a Huey coming in. But.. It doesn't seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it. Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you. He's not MedEvac so it's not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway. Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway. And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board. Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety. And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!! Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm. He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey. Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died last Wednesday at the age of 70, in Boise , Idaho May God Bless and Rest His Soul. I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, but we've sure heard a whole bunch about Whitney Houston, Lindsay Lohan, Dr. Murray, that sicko Sandusky, and a 72- day sham marriage. Shame on the media !!! Medal of Honor Winner Captain Ed Freeman Now... YOU pass this along. Honor this real hero. Please.
  8. Hi Chris, I can put you in contact with the guy that brought our C172 out from the USA. He is based at Archerfield. Give me call. Otherwise how are you guys settling in, converted your PPL yet? Cheers Dave Butler
  9. Weather held out long enough for us this morning. Spin, Little Spin & I made it over, not too many A/C, possibly due to weather, but a good turn out anyway. Thanks to the crew at Straddie Aero Club, hoping to see more of you in the future.
  10. Hoping to make it this time if this !@#$%^ weather clears
  11. Some that I have flown do have, Savannah XL, Sport Star and some Tecnams (an option on the Tecnams I believe) but yes there are a lot without toe brakes and on some you have to faf around swopping hands to operate the hand brake.
  12. Hopefully I will be shortly:naughty:
  13. Not sure if this has already been posted:
  14. At an airport like Brisbane or any controlled airport a radio is mandatory. This being the case if he cannot understand you due to poor transmisson quality then your radio is considered unserviceable. In that case yes he could stop you.
  15. Hi Robyn, Welcom to the forum and will no doubt see more of you at Lynfield. Cheers Dave B.
  16. Hi Guys, I would like to take a friend & customer of mine for flip with a possible stop for a quick lunch instead of the usual Christmas lunch. Was thinking about 2 not more than hours total flying, will be operating out of Archerfield. It will also be a week day. Was thinking about Toowoomba, Caboolture, Redcliffe as possible stop overs but I cannot recall ever seeing anywhere to eat. It only has to be simple, hamburger etc just not Makkas, HJ's or KFC please:angry: Thanks Dave B.
  17. I have a friend interested in larning to fly trikes. Where are the schools in SE QLD please? Cheers DB
  18. Hi magcheck, Where did you get the Aussie maps that you are using with Air Navigation Pro? Thanks Regards Dave B.
  19. Recently started my FI rating with Kev and it is not an easy course but learning a lot and most of all enjoying it. I look at it as a way of improving my flying even if I don't finish and teach a single student, not my intention though. Also a way of staying current and keeping an ear in the industry. My feeling is if you can do it, do it!! New instructors are always sought after.
  20. Theres no substitute for Altitute. The 3 most useless for a pilot: Altitude above you. Runway behind you. Fuel in the bowser
  21. Not sure if this has been posted, if not enjoy. http://www.dump.com/2011/10/26/raw-cockpit-footage-taken-during-a-blue-angels-air-show-video/
  22. Check these out RAM Mounts @ www.ram-mount.com I have used 1 for my old GPS 90 for years (far better than the original) and recently got 1 for my iPhone. Not the cheap fleamarket stuff, build like the proverbial brick out house. Available from Johnny Appleseed GPS here in Brissy ( I have no connection with Johnny Appleseed but will be asking for a discount next time).
  23. Thanks for the welcome folks. Yes, same dodgy avitar, looking for new photgrapher;);) avi8tr, yes that is a Tecnam P92 Eaglet, used to be based at Boonah now based at Redcliffe I believe. Great little A/C.
