  1. This is not an advert and I have no connection with this school what so ever. Mod if you are not happy please remove. A new RA school is operating a brand new Jab 170 out of Archerfield. Something we have needed here in the south of Brissy for some time as we really do not have much in the way of RA in this neck of the woods. Will be test driving the Jabbi later this week or next.
  2. Yep, I believe there are 2 at Gympie at a school run by a lady instructor, cannot remember her name or the name of her school unfortunately.
  3. Can one fly ones self in? If so how long is the strip & coordinates?
  4. Interesting read: http://www.stefanv.com/aviation/flight_computers.html
  5. Hi rdarby, The strip is called Archer Falls I think?? try, this: http://archerfalls.com.au/
  6. I was standing on the flight line and watched it happen. Tuned that Rotol prop into match sticks in seconds and peeled the spinner off like an apple skin. There was an ex Spit pilot standing next to us and he could see it coming and was shouting and carring on. Not a happy moment. A "before" shot.
  7. Hi Spin, Do remember the Shack fly past but was caught off guard, not sure if it was the same year as the 737. Also missed Larry Barnett landing the Spitfire on it's nose. Saw the whole thing happen but had run out of film, yes those were the days. I was a regular at EAA Margate from 83 to 88.
  8. Very true, look at the videos of Bob Hoover, rests a glass of water on the instrument panel and also pours a glass of water while doing a barrel roll without spilling a drop.
  9. When they have an airshow in Africa they can put on a pretty good show. The attached photo was taken at the EAA airshow at Margate on the South African Natal south coast in the mid 1980's, can't remember the exact year. It is a sheduled flight that was en route from Johannesburg to Durban and the pilot diverted a little south of track and gave a quick display of the 737. Note this aircraft is full of passengers. This is a genuine photo as I was the photographer. I do believe the PAX enjoyed the experience and there were no complaints.
  10. Thanks for the info folks, exactly the type of info I was after. Cheers DB
  11. I have been asked by a friend to plan a mid year trip from Brisbane (YBAF) to Lake Erie. I am not familiar with the area at all and would appreciate any help. We would like to keep the trip to 4-5 days, flying for about 4 hours a day and will be flying a C172S. I am after places of interest we could land at and most importantly places where we can refuel. Thanks Dave B.
  12. Hi Mike, Taking a flyer here but as both functions controlled by this knob do not work, is the knob not perhaps loose on the shaft and just turning on the shaft. If memory serves me correctly it is secured by 1 or 2 small allen grub screws. Have had this on other radios in the past. Cheers Dave B.
  13. I must echo what has already been said. Although I have only known Greg for about 2 years he was not only a very experienced instructor & pilot but a good friend. Like others, I had also been given the run around by some schools as to how much they could NOT do for me and how little the could. A few hours with Greg and his team and I was solo and a few more and I had completed my GA RA-Aus conversion. It was great to catch up on Sat evening and thanks for all your help and support. Greg go well, enjoy your well earned break with your family. We have unfinished business and will get together later in the year. Cheers Dave B
  14. Found this on another aviation forum I frequent. Photos 2010
  15. Never knew George but had heard of him. Always sad to loose a good mate and fellow aviator. Condolenses to the family. R.I.P.
  16. Anyone out there interested in doing the PMI course?? To follow on from what has been said on this thread already and what my CFI has told me, yes the stating point is the P.M.I. course. Is there anyone in intereseted in doing this course in the new year? I live in the Brisbane area but am willing and able to travel within reason if needs be. If so let's, get some names together here and see if we can put something together. Cheers Dave B
  17. How do you become a RAA instructor? With extreme difficulty!!! Have been trying for some years now, on and off with little joy. No sooner have I found a school with an instructor qualified to do the instructors course something goes pear shaped. Would be interested if anybody could point me to an instructor not to far from Brisbane.
  18. Thanks David, Will be at Boonah tomorrow and grab an info sheet. Cheers DB
  19. Can anybody please help? What is the difference between a Tecnam P96 Golf and the P2002 Sierra? Found specs on the P2002 but can't seem to find much on the P96. Thanks Folks DB

  21. Was at Archerfield on Thurs to get my latest ERSA etc from the local pilot shop. Was informed that Airsupport, the other shop at YBAF, had closed it's doors. It was part of the Flight Training Australia group and that they closed up shop. I know they catered mainly for the overseas market but still. What is happening to Aviation in this country??? Flying schools closing, Airports closing!!! As I mentioned in another post If we want to keep our airports we have to buy them!!!! i.e. Airparks
  22. If this true it is good news. It would seem the only way to secure our airfields is if we own them!!!
  23. How can a day spent on an airfield NOT be great:clap: It was great to meet & greet as well as put faces to the names. As usual great photos Spin. See you all around the circuit soon. DB
  24. Hey Carl, This 1 is just around the corner see you there Weather permittingi_dunno
  25. Well did any of you go out to Boonah and fly?? I have a bad case of that itch that only a prop can scratch:big_grin::big_grin::big_grin: Will try for this coming week end
