Clutter is when you have a lot of planes close together and radio work is in need of a bit of polishing up. Quality of signal and procedures. A lot of concern has been the cost and who should bear it, It seems that is about as cheap as it's ever going to be.  Nev

While I agree with that, not every field requires a radio like Wedderburn. I like the extra tool, I cannot believe how many aircraft that come towards me seen on the iPad and I still can't see them. Gets me prepared and I'm not just talking about in the vicinity of an airport.

  2. I decided I'm getting one built in. I have a skyecho, was at Parkes on the weekend. I thought I turned it off after landing. Anyway, a normal USB-C cable wouldn't charge it in flight, only the one supplied which I didn't have with me. For the extra expense, I don't want to be fiddling. It's going to be for the long term since I expect rule changes to be made in the Sydney Basin and eventually an ADSB requirement.

I now have ADSB out on my aircraft. Have just purchased a uavionix PING ADSB receiver to display ADSB traffic on OzRunways. Have not tried it yet but should give similar input to the Skyecho at a fraction of the price.

    I think you'll find it's only ADSB-In

On the LEFT HAND SIDE MENU, there is an EVENTS Calendar - and ANYONE can ADD any forthcoming EVENT to it, that may be of interest to forum readers.

Maybe Ian needs to make the EVENTS part of the LHS menu, more prominent on the website? In flashing text, perhaps?? :classic_rolleyes:

    Doesn't look used. Very empty.

It seems like the dead pilot starred in a yet-to-be-released documentary titled "Any fool can fly". Yep, seems like there was at least one fool flying that day, and possibly more.

Why do you need to denigrade someone? There could have been a reason we may never know like some sort of distraction or event in the cockpit or the passenger.

  6. I drained the tanks in my 230D by removing the fuel hose from the mechanical fuel pump and draining into fuel cans and used the electric fuel pump to speed things up.

My left wing emptied first then the right wing.

During long flights one wing always drains faster than the other. Talking to other jab people they have the same issue. Wish we had a fuel slector sometimes.

  7. AFAIK he's not on any forums or facebook. He did explain in good detail. The main part was he didn't think he could get over the tree so he aimed between them towards the base of the trunks so the wings would take the energy. Would have worked if the front wheel didn't catch on the scrub.

As for the turn back, that's the problem with partial EFAT, John knows the plane and so close to pulling it off. Imagine if he had 5 more seconds of power. What we can learn is maybe don't trust partial engine failures low to the ground.

I've left the carb heat on and you defintely feel it but I didn't put it into a paddock, I worked it out pretty quickly. It's hard to judge when your not there.

  8. Saw John yesterday. They started loosing power very early on the upwind leg after a touch and go. He took over and managed to get the plane completly around lined up for the runway and the engine quit. 2 more trees to go, to much energy to put it down straight away and he aimed for the base and between the trees and flippped when the nose wheel hit scrub.

I don't usually like commenting like this but there is a lot of speculaion.
