  1. There are a number of ICAO standards. (grey blue etc) a country is free to choose what fits them best. The CIS (Russia) use metres for everthing including altitude. Terrible system you wind up flying Flt Level 10600m/ Flt Level 11200m 1000 gives all the require safty margins and easy to remember to boot.
  2. From around Oct 07 Jabiru went from leakdown type hydralic lifters to non leak down type. I would guess that the new lifters would randomly lose charge after sitting idle for a time. Maybe you only get a good conparision after a short engine run.
  3. To find out if the aircraft balance will be within limits you need to know your particular aircrafts "Empty Weight Trim Index". Get Jabiru to fax or email the J160 "Loading Trim Sheet" from the Owners Manual and follow the line as in the example. Best to check an unknown aircraft as there can be variations from standard.
  4. Broken barrel base studs usually caused by slightly loose bolts (more than 1 thou) that result in fatigue failure. It's not perfect but the best you can do is check the bolts torque from time to time. Be sure not to have anything other than machined flat steel brackets (not alloy) under any bolt. Any chance you could post a pic of your trioavionics servo installation in your J230.
  6. The Real World From a practical point of view if you are operating between Bundy and Maroochy you are darn close to going from one CTAF to another. 126.7 seems to be the most useful frequency when not on another CTAF frequency; there are heck a of lot of private, unlicensed and other strips in the area and even Fraser Island commercial beach landing traffic seem to use this frequency. May not be quite what the A I P intended but with no radar below 5000 in this area if you want to know where everyone is it’s your best bet.
  7. Oils ai'nt Oils Ai,nt necessarily so. Depends on a lot of factors. Three of us went Gatton to Caboolture the other day. The J400 with 86sq ft of wing as slower than the J250 with 120 sq ft of wing, similar weights and 2800 rpm. I was dead last in the Sonex by 2 minutes! Same wing sections on the Jabs I believe (4412) maybe better aspect ratio or lower angle of attack.
