  1. In your flare try your very best not to land! ie hold it off as long as you can and if you aren't very high above the runway the landing will be good.
  2. Yep, it's a trip you're going to remember fondly I reckon. Learning to fly is the best part of flying IMHO! I wish I could forget how so I could learn again :)
  3. That's not good news Tim. I thought fo sure that would fix it. You should post in the thruster forum and see if any of he experts there can help. I feel your pain though, sux no being able to fly. Here's hoping you get it sorted sooner rather than late mate.
  4. Good to finally meet you too Tim. James is a really good pilot and I believe him when he says he meant to hold it a couple of inches off the deck! Thanks for the photos too, we don't get to see ourselves flying too often.
  5. Yes Tim that's the Jeremy that was with me that day. He doesn't quite have his rpl but he is very close, just a couple more hours and the test. He'll have it very son. Btw well probably be out your way tomorrow so keep your ear out for us.
  6. From Merriam-Webster online dictionary: Engine: 4: a machine for converting any of various forms of energy into mechanical force and motion; also : a mechanism or object that serves as an energy source <black holes may be the engines for quasars> Motor: 1: one that imparts motion; specifically : prime mover 2: any of various power units that develop energy or impart motion: as a: a small compact engine b: internal combustion engine; especially : a gasoline engine c: a rotating machine that transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy
  7. No probs Tim. I'm there Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
  8. You don't need a radio to get into pallamana but it helps!
  9. You took your time joining mate! Now I'll have to stop talking about you :) For everyone else's benefit Jeremy is one of my syndicate mates.
  10. Sure - any Thursday for lunch. We just need to know numbers to cater for it.
  11. I guess legally as long as you are off the runway and any taxiways you can park anywhere (so long as it isn't on someone's private property). I tend to arrange things like that ahead of time by calling someone at the aerodrome I'm going to or asking someone who's been there before. At larger airports it's usually fairly obvious as you'll see all the lighties parked together - you probably know that from flying at Bankstown I'm guessing.
  12. Forrest is there for Virgin apparently. The aircraft they use to fly to Perth don't have the range to hold long enough I think so Forrest is their alternate. It's very strange landing on those huge runways in a J160! We felt like we were in a 737 or something :)
  13. Hey all, just thought I'd revive this old post and let you all know what I've been up to. I now have about 130 hrs and am almost finished my instructor rating. I have tw, ts and lp endos now as well - in a 582 lightwing. I've been an l2 for a while now and have done lots of work on jabs mostly. I have also bought a 160 with a couple of mates. We bought the aircraft in Perth and flew it home over 2 days. A very interesting trip that taught us a lot about planning and weather. We departed kalgoorlie heading for Forrest for our overnight stay but didnt quite make it. We ran out of daylight well before last light but it was stormy and cloudy so the light wasn't too good. We put down on a bush strip about 60 miles short of Forrest. I wouldn't have wanted to do another circuit as it was getting fairly dark. We didn't have any camping gear so we spent a very long night in and under the plane! It blew about 30knots all night and it rained on and off. A miserable night! We departed that strip at 4:30am and arrived home at YMBD at 5:45, a very long day with headwinds and turbulence the whole way. Anyway, that's where I'm at and I'm very glad I stuck with it. Reading back over this thread I can't believe the trouble i had at the beginning But it's been very rewarding!
  14. Yeah we were both at work today mate. Glad I wasn't flying after what you said!
  15. Consider the CT-Sw and LS? A couple of guys here have them and one of them cruises at over 120K indicated. No wing struts either so fairly clean looks.
  16. The J160 and probably the other Jabs have a 5000 Hr requirement on the wing struts and the control cables every 10000 Hrs or something like that. I think Jab also allow a 5% tolerance on inspection intervals if using an airswitch as opposed to a hobbs meter.
  17. Understood Nev but I think in this case we may well get a definitive answer. From what I've heard from people that probably know what happened I think it'll be pretty obvious what happened. Hopefully we'll find out sooner rather than later but these things tend to take time.
  18. Current thinking out our way is mechanical failure caused the resultant loss of control but of course the ATSB report will tell us exactly what happened.
  19. I was at Murray bridge today as is my habit on Monday's and the mood around the airfield was very sombre. I didn't know rob personally but I did know his dad and I Have spoken with him on the radio. He seemed to be a very nice guy and it's very sad when someone that young dies. The 2 guys watching when the accident happened are both very experienced pilots and the truth about what happened will definitely come out eventually.
  20. Murray bridge I'm the l2 at Rpa flying school and training to be an instructor.
  21. No probs Tim. The trip in the Lightwing might take an hour or two (joke) so I know what you mean by low performance! See you soon, Tony
  22. Hey Tim, we had a great flight today. Wouldn't believe it with it being hot and windy but it was really smooth over about 1500'. We had a lot of fun buzzing your strip and we're glad you enjoyed viewing our little jab. I reckon we could easily land on your strip but getting off again might be a problem. Jeremy and I weigh about 195Kg between us so we're close to max weight with only a small amount of fuel :) In the next few weeks we might come for a fly in the Lightwing which will get in and out easily - do we need to give you advance notice? It'll likely be a Monday or Tuesday morning, Regards Tony
  23. We'll be over for a flypast on Thursday in a Jab 160. Probably around 10:30ish. We won't land but will definately waggle the wings :)
