  1. I kept all my " pre/ advertising " to trundling around the air shows with a Bulsawood model and an excited sales pitch !

I got a lot of positive feedback from pilots, so i decided to put my head down , and hey/ presto ;Put in his finger , and pulled out an Avocet !

I had noticed over the years of being "self employed " and making stuff , that so much time =$£€¥ , and money, mainly time gets spent on promoting any " futures " project ,

What i should have done was Film the whole process , probly make more money selling the film !

The kettles always on . Although has boiled dry a few times !

    Keep it up

  3. I started building a largeish wooden glider when nic was borne ,

    Had two young daughters 15 & 13 ,

We used to play with that glider in a large room and glide at low level over the kids in a large room .

My oldest daughter went on to solo , and worked for me and started a LAME apprenticeship, and my no 2 flu with me to Avalon from Bundy .

When nic was 15 i started the Avocet project and has gone on to be involved and hands on .

Getting our kids and young teens into something real and cool to some extent kept em off the streets !

They were and still are involved in the hands on side of things .

Not all jobs are technically challenging, and i found only needed

Gentle guidance, if their patience can handle what can seem to them as boring repartition .

    Worked for our family.

    Cheers Mike

  4. Oh yeah, very close but just a wee little more to go yet ..... patience certainly takes on a whole new meaning in China.

Correct, not dumb at all. One of 2 sites actually. It's a long, long story, too long and although it's been a profitable exercise to date asset wise, assets don't buy milk and bread and it's time convert asset into capital and actually start making stuff. Not because I have to but because I darn well want to.

as sure we're not related !!!

Doing exactly the same , I am at the moment sorting aviation stuff and my old 1974 xl 350 ,

I went to clean it up the other day and found its never had a tyre off or a spanner on it ( ex sump plug ) 8, thousand miles on road mostly .

    Might try ebay ?

    22.4 lt/hr Druidvale / Jaimstown / Loxton/Druidvale .( 4.4 hrs ) cruise 5,500 / 4,500 ft 2750RPM IAS 102 knts .

    Method used ;

Start with drainrd tanks on level ground ,

Quantity of fuel added ,( full tank avgas ).

Timed flight , including taxi ,

    Aircraft levelled ,

  8. The problem of inefficient flaps and ailerons and other controls is secondary with our type of fun aircraft where control "authority" and neutral or other stability questions are more important. You can dirty it up when coming down to get extra lift at the lower speeds. Steepen the approach path or do a powered approach. I've owned planes with no flaps. I'm certainly no advocate of complexity. Shielded rudder and poor airflow (boundary layer control/ separation)Turbulent airflow equals efficiency loss stuff, and often control authority/ response. We can improve these things and have better to fly aeroplanes.I've been pondering for years a design concept with a blown wing and thrust from a pressurised plenum which is part of the structure and enclosed mid mounted engine, with centrifugal compressor. Mass in the middle where it should be. Nev

    When do we start Nev?

Ill clear a spot on the calendar !

We made her sick with salt & few drops of water down the gullit .

Next couple of days she developed a cough , and offing up flem .

Seems a bit better today ,

  10. Whoops - too late - I guess my flight over the Southern Alps last week would be regarded by turboplanner and Doug as totally irresponsible - since I would have needed to get to 12,000 ft in order to glide to a safe landing if the engine had stopped and I only managed 7500 - I suppose I had better stick to flying around the Canterbury Plains in future. In fact, if I dont fly at all then I really will be completely safe. Rather boring though!

You never think it 'll happen to you ,

    Until it does .!

    Ye're , tell me about it .

  11. I contacted the place in melb a couple of years ago inquiring about the process , i thought it was nicocil ,

They didn't want to do jabiru barrels , as they said the process wasnt suited to chrome / molly , they mentioned a couple of failed attemts .

I dont have that contact ,

( Lost data in a phone update )

    Mike.

  12. Mine is similar , 2750 static , 3000 rpm flat out 3500 amsl ,hindered by old pusher exhaust .

    Thats hyd./ lifter 3300 with a 62"dia. X 54 " pitch ,

Runs well although pushed a bit of oil out the overflow bottle breather on the the last 4 hr run,

Ive just taken it off the run in oil and onto 15/50 ,

Im wondering if the multi grade oil is creating more blow by ?

Ill try the W100 and see if it makes a difference .
