  1. Found a bloke looking at athe Avocet on sunday morning

Ide just spent the last 1/2 hr taking off the turret cowels for a pre flight.

He came over after and introduced himself and gave me his card and said any time you need to talk about any thing aviation to give him a ring .

I found him to be cheerfull , helpfull , and appreciated my contribution to aviation , can happen every time i land , if YAM

I asked him about my i phone as a back up to pocket fms for the skyview , his answer was i need to upgrade to an i pad ,

May as well keep the map sub up , it would be cheeper , just take the maps you need for that flight .

  2. Rob built the J258 from a jabiru j 250 kit ( the ones they exported to usa , they have the 250 wing which has a 4 ft cord .)

He wanted to fit an 8 cyl jab engine ,so considerable mods and redesign had to be done .

Strengthening the firewall and other mods were done and the plane has been flying for a few years , although i dont know how well .

  3. Great time , its the the first time since aug '11 ive been able and willing to go to a flyin , great bunch these flying folk !

Had 13 knt tail wind on the way back , 1.9 hrs and another cross wind landing back home ,

The avocets a handfull in cross wind above 13 knts !

    More practice .

  4. Guys:This is not going anywhere! All I did was asking for advice on how to properly seal my rocker shafts :-(

Avocet; I can see from the picture of your installation that the bottom of your rocker boxes are perfectly dry without any oil spill- so what did you do?

    Thanks

Im asuming you have done the instal/unstal yourself ,

On a scale of one to five Spanners ,

One Spanner being an easy job like changing the spark plugs

And five Spanners being the hardest type of work like engine assembly , right tools ect , Appropriate work space , How would you rate your ability in ,,Spanner ratings ?

    Just asking ,

    Cheers .

  5. Good news today from our fly in coordinator Kerrie Palamountain. The 200 seats for the hangar dinner are nearly all booked, only a few left.

It's shaping up to be the best yet with great speakers throughout Saturday.

Let's hope the weather is kind for us.

Hope to catch up with past visitors for a chat.

Google "D motor engine failure" and check results, thenGoogle "Jabiru engine failure" and check results

Now before anyone says but there are buggar all flying, that may be correct but to date the are "0" reported failures.

Ps. I can't believe that I just made a post in defence of one of the trolls outrageous statements.

OK I'll bite, why does it need to be inverted? What am I missing? It already fits a Jab mount and it has a dry sump.

With my turret installation , being able to vent heat and exhaust on top will benifit in quieter running with straight outs .

Its already fuel injected , so flipping it just leaves the gravity drain of oil from rocker gear back to sump .

Some sort of oil feed and return to and from the rockers without poolong oil in the now sloping upwards rocker tubes .
