  1. Ok I give up, I looked at the Service Bulletin list and searched the Jabiru site for "AVDALSR085-1" but I cannot locate the document? The only ones there appear to be AVDALSR071 and AVDALSR050

Pm me your email address and ill send the email I got from jabiru , it Probly hasn't been added to the web manual yet

    Cheers

  2. I've just done the CHT mod that jabiru recommend ,it gets rid of the 14 mm ring that goes under the spark plug that can let hot gas escape and give a high head temp reading .

I was pleased that all my heads now read pretty even , I always had a high reading No3 due to leaking gas .(no more )

The mod is called ::: AVDALSR085-1

    CHT mod

It took about 40mins to do the 6 sensors ,

The hardest thing is snipping away the old 14 mm ring with sharp side cutters and not damaging the wire that's welded together at the ends .i just snipped away a bit at a time until it falls off the wire then crimping on the new ring .

    Cheers Mike.

  3. I did strobe installation on a LSA55/3J , use some yellow / green tongue plastic joiner as a snake but glue some small steel washers to the end first, push the yellow tongue from the cabin following the aileron cable, as the cable gets to the wing tip use a magnet held on the wing skin to guide the end of the yellow the last bit.Welding magnets are good to use, cover with masking tape to protect wing finish.

Once it pokes into the aileron inspection hole at the wing tip, tape the wire to the yellow tongue and carefully feed and pull back into the cabin.

    That will work ,

On the 230 wing there are holes in the ribs ,

You don't have to take the wing off ,

At the wing root end ,after drilling a hole in the skin where you position your lights ,you'll

Have to drill a small hole Into the end rib , as this is the only solid rib .

Getting the string down through the wing is not difficult , you need somthing long and thin to attach the string to .

I've joined a couple or three lengths of dowel , but you can use any thing stiff .

Check photo of wing rib holes

This is a 250 wing , the 230 wing is similar

IDE go down the leading edge as there's no restriction all the way down .

  4. Check if the balls in the middle with wings level in the cruise ,still air ,and fly it hands free , and check that the balls still level , if it goes out ,even a little , it's a rigging issue .

Might be the ruder needs tweeking , or maybe a flap ,

It's a bit of a" think it through "situation ,but you can get it set spot on and I've found this helps no end to having balanced tanks .

    Cheers Mike

  5. I'm pretty sure the only way that works is that you have to have been the builder and have an extensive builders log that will satisfy the casa appionted approved person that you truly were the builder ,reciepts , dates , invoices , ect .and the build is of a high standard

Then you would have to do the casa maintaince coarse $ aprox 600. Ish (that's with the saaa.)first year member , ( gets cheeper with each year of membership )

The MTOW would be according to the model and year it was built

    Cheers Mike

Anyone know where to acquire the stainless shackles used on drifter wire bracing?

    try aircraft spruce .online catalog

Don't think marine ones would be suitable without testing

  7. Mike , You've made the correct decision, your procurement method was just off a bit, but in the end it'll all be worth it. Like I know you live in the boonies, but next time your in a big town check out the motorcycle shops. They would be able to at least order them for you..........at the right price hopefully.................Maj...012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif

    Love these boonies !

I've ordered one from aero shop

All done . Thanks for all your advice & help everyone . Make yourself known to me at Ausfly and lll by you all a beer ,

    Cheers

  8. Yes I thought that sounded a little expensive Mike, are we talking the small one or the bigger one?..Been a few years now since I bought my big one from a local motorcycle shop. I seem to recall it was about 75-80 bucks or so. I mean you just have to have one, the very fine filter is worth it, and the sump that doesn't let any water through is just a bonus......Maj...014_spot_on.gif.1f3bdf64e5eb969e67a583c9d350cd1f.gif

    I just got a reply from e bay ,

They said they put the price up to discourage sales because they are low on stock & when I bourght one they put the price up another $ 100 , " to discourage sales even more !

    It's now $264 .00 !

  9. Strewth! 35 to 48 % Toluene in Caltex 98 ?? There is no way I want fuel that could be almost half toluene in my flipping tanks ! I use 95 not 98 normally but my tanks were filled with 98 during a recent service. Hmmm...

My fuel lines went soft and expanded with the C al 98 . That's why I started to look seriously into what was in this stuff !

Once I had drained it out the fuel lines went back to their original shape

There is a lot all ready been discussed of another thread : carnt remember.

    Cheers

  10. Hi Avocet,Toluene is a natural component of gasoline, typically being present at 5 - 7 % m/m. Perhaps Caltex add more though (I don't know), whether to increase the octane rating or for other reasons. It causes rubber to swell, this property apparently having been suggested as a quick semi-quantitative test for the toluene level in gasoline.

    Cheers,

    BF

Toluene in caltex vortex 98 is 35to48 %

BP 98 in this part of the country SA is up to 17% ,all added to increase octane rating .

The caltex makes fuel lines go soft

    BP not so bad

    Cheers .

  11. Something strange going on there......if you click on " 71 sold" you can see the price history.Mostly sold for $64.99 ......

Could be the owner is away and someone else is filling in.....

Thanks for that , it wouldn't be the first time they've made mistakes and overcharged .

Never seems to work the other way round !

    Mike
