1. Yes mate, unfortunately, we must maintain IAW with these poorly written manuals when we use the aircraft for hire and reward. The laws are not poorly written and not ambiguous in this regard. "yes your honor, I took the initiative" :) 095_cops.gif.448479f256bea28624eb539f739279b9.gif

    Your kidding right ,?

Gong to court for putting the engine mount in the right way ?

    Cheers Mike

  2. Pretty sure avocet is right. Its in the manual like he says

When I lived in bundaberg I was at jabiru fitting up the first 6cyl sp 6 ( the one that was stolen in WA ) engine with the soft rubbers , and rod stiff was watching and we both noticed the soft rubbers deforming ,

We then tried reversing the top rubber and it worked ok ,

I have also from time to time put an hose clamp around the offending rubber , that works ok to and you get the advantage of the soft rubbers ,

The hard rubbers are available but they do transfer vibration ,.

    Cheers Mike

  3. Here's a defect from the weekend, happened to my aircraft was on it test flight post new engine install. After installing the 3300 I noticed that the rubbers were quite soft and allowed a bit more movement of the engine so I rang Jab who informed me that the compound of the rubbers was recently softened to reduce vibration. End result after 0.6!!!!

You've got the rubbers the wrong way round , the male should be at the front so the load pushes against the "male bit "

The thrust on the female rubber just pushes it out of shape .

    Cheers . Mike

Also , have the male facing forward on the top mount and at the back on the bottom ,

I've found this works ok .

  4. Started taxi tests yesterday , did a few hops today , I need to tune the engine TBI , seems to start running rough at full power ,

The multipoint SDS runs good at full power ,but I accidentally de programmed the fuel ratio at lower revs , ill have to fly it to Goollwah to have it reprogrammed .

    Cheers Mike

  5. It won the best jabiru 2000 nat fly , from Rod Stiff , has a burl walnut instrument panel and the stripe is 2 pack not vinyl , should be easy to spot , could be coming to the east coast ?

It was the 2nd sp. 6 built , I remember it through a spinner at 2000 ft after take off at bundy , I thought the the engine was gonna fall out ! Brings back memories ,

Also I did the first taxi tests today in the Avocet , actually I'm real nervous about flying it again , ( I spose that's a good thing , Hay ?)

    Cheers Mike

  6. Here is a picture of the aircraft:

    That's the first plane I built !

    That's my first plane !

    Gee

I sold it after two hundred hrs back in 1998

    Gee

I just signed the no ASIC petition ,hope a terrorist didn't steel it .!033_scratching_head.gif.b541836ec2811b6655a8e435f4c1b53a.gif

  7. John sorry to hear about you accident , however , I know from recent experience that your emotions will be largely clouded with medication & bad hospital food ,

It took me weeks to be able to have a decent crap ,

Take your time to get better & please rest , rest .

Your really on sick leave .

They call it that for a reason .

    Cheers & get well

  8. Although it has its own issues ,what's wrong with RAA ending up back in the SAAA, that's where it started and although there are always problems in any organisation at least the SAAA seems to be able to read the regs and stick to them. As a lobby group they're doing well for the experimental flyers and really I reckon we have more in common with them than AOPA ,the only dramas would be getting over very old grudges, having to learn the regs ( and not break them) and hopefully an influx of pilots wouldn't destroy what seems to be a strong organisationCheers Matty

    My 2 bobs worth :

I agree that that would be better than AOPA,

But , saaa doesn't administer licenses or rego (I think ?)(any one know for sure?),it's back to casa handling that aspect .

We would only be moving our problems and giving it to them ,

I wouldn't imagine them to be that interested ,and I think their are some old grudges ,but it's better than it was .

I for one have been a member for 3 years

    Chapter 25 , great bunch

    Only my thoughts

If this goes the way it seems to be going we will all end up their any way one way or another

  9. Avocet. If your idea that the wing always goes to about 3 deg angle of incidence, can you explain what the elevator soes in flight.

I was meaning that in strait & level flight the wings generally settle at about 3deg aoi .Its about getting the flight loads balanced (less drag). Some designers use two deg to try and get a better top speed , but I found that on the Avocet it made the tail fly a bit low in s/level.(more drag)

Obviously the elevator can change that ,

One of the checks is to see where the elevator sits in relationship to the vert./stab.in strait/level flight . If it sits high or low ,the the fix is to adjust the Angle of incidence of the wing , .

Then there's the compromise of settling on a position of the wing incidence to allow for different weights in the aircraft .

I found by having the load bed & engine close to the Cof G , that it made it easer to settle on a particular angle of inc.that gives the best overall performance .

Ref." principals of flight "by Kamode (think that's how you spell it)

Great book for beginners ,first year aeronautical engineering ,

It was one of the many aeronautical eng. (borrowed )books I studied for 3 years before I started the avocet program .

Ps What I was referring to in the post was that a fixed pitch of 10 deg in strait & level flight would give a large nose down attitude ,

Make a balsa model and try it out

    Cheers Mike

  10. That's what I call working together ,

Just imagine 3000 plus Raa aircraft doing a flyby like that : one leads & then two & three and on It goes , ...........

I think if Raa falls apart and our aircraft are grounded , it would definatly get the powers that be attention ,

They might try and thro us all in gail , but I don't think there'd be enough room

I was thinking maybe start in brissy , down over Sydney under the bridge , then on to Canberra ,

(What do they say about publicity ?)

Imagine trying to flight plan that !

    Cheers:juggle:

  11. No ... No ... Not Kaz .... her blood is worth bottling. You leave our Kaz alone OK.

I offered her a job to help me succeed from the nation ! Then we make our own version

    of air activity. (HUH) ??

  12. Indeed....coming to a sports pilot magazine delivered direct to you....shortly.As to having all the answers.......how could that be possible, we, like all other members aren't even aware of all the flogging issues yet!!

    Andy

That's great to here , you've got my vote , best of luck ,

Who's got all the answers anyway ,

If there's one thing in your favor is that it gona take a skilled communicator & passion to move this mountain .

    Cheers & again good luck

  13. Respect for Myles and the fact that he's apparently a good guy of course will go a long way to ensuring RAAus survives the oncoming legal tsunamei......oh hang on.....no it wont actually.....it required the team to have done the right thing at the right historic time....FAIL!Management of RAAus is not a game it requires skills and life experience in boards of like sized organisations. It also requires members/owner involvement. We collectively have failed in both those areas for decades

Forgive the cynicism of the messengers of those facts, for which Kaz has been for many years, we have been yelling in the wind for years that all is not well and been actively poo pood by the board for the same time. Now when it appears that what we have been saying will happen is actually happening, a "good luck and farewell" seems a continuation of the naivety that got us to where we are today. Personally i do wish him well, but i equally wish he'd done a better job of governing with the rest of the team, and as we Aussies say, don't let the door bang you on the **** on the way out.

    Andy

P.S for those that have trouble reading between the lines, the above represents my personal view and is not to be read as a statement of fact, those will of course come out in the oncoming legal actions , which will of course be too late...

Maybe it's about time you Mob ran for office , it's quite clear that you have all the answers.

    Ill vote for you .

  14. Just the Secretary left to go.Kaz

I think your making it harder for decent folk to put up their hands to run for office , if when they decide to give it in they can expect the fond farewell they seem to be getting now ,.

After all aviation makes us close and it's a shame we are starting to resemble a " civil war " type attitude ,

I think it's time that you great thinkers (and talkers) come up with some answers ,instead of rehashing the " problem "

The crew that's got us thus far have after all been responsible for our flying privileges for a number of decades now , and I for one say thanks !

    Thanks Guys and Gals

    Cheers mike

  15. Your name's not Henry, I suppose?

I was thinking of changing my name to Guy forks and succeeding Druidvale from Australia .after all ,all you need is a runway or two , hanger and plane , and a bit of sky to play in ! RIGHT!

Although IDE Probly need a lawyer to do the paper work . Kas , are you interested ,

  16. This is all total BS...So if some idiot drives his car down the road and makes a poor decision and kills himself and his son are the coroners now going to say you cant take kids in your car. What planet does the Coroner live on. People do all manner of stupid irresponsible things on the road in cars and motorbikes and in a plethora of other circumstances all day and kill themselves and kill a hell of a lot more innocents. Aircraft accidents rarely ever kill innocents.

For Pete's sake can we all take a breath here and have people think logically. How many kids get killed in light aircraft accidents compared to the deaths in all manner of other accidents, so why pick on a single accident six years ago and then attempt to penalise all the flying community because of the actions in error of one person. The last time I remember a father and son incident was some where up near Boonah where a 40 year old and his 10 year old also died in a Quickez from memory when they got caught in a valley due weather and it was around 20 years ago because I remember he was the same age as me and my youngest son son at the time.

These type of accidents are rare. You have a better probability of being king hit by some dickhead these days walking down town on a Friday night.

This kind of knee jerk reaction just pisses me off to the extreme.

I spose we could just get rid of lawyers,( now where have I heard that before) ?

  17. Nev,I can assure you he wasn't sent home by the new Tech Manager, it was at the surprise of the Tech manager; it wasn't the new GM either, he had only just started.

However, Dean did deserve a break from the long hours he was working on our behalf. Why his engagement wasn't continued at the same level is anybodies guess.

So who was running the show then you might reasonably ask?

Dean went home because he wanted to , he worked tirelessly and he definitely deserves a break .

I'm 58 , and Deans old enough to be my father !, although he doesn't look it

    And that's a fact .

    Cheers , young Mike .

  18. That's a bit funny Avocet . If you correct everything with the prop why would that be OK?You hopefully do ALL moving parts. The crank dynamically as it's long. Each conrod end and other end and total, each piston assy total. Flywheel if it is thin enough, static, and prop if it tracks well, and accurately crafted, static. Should be good enough for what we use. I know people do what you are talking of but it can't be the ultimate job Nev

That's true , I agree , I would balance all the bits for a total job , but balance is balance , if you carnt get the prop in balance , dynamically , that will show somthings amiss , when the props balanced with the engine runing doesn't that also bring every thing else into an overall balance ?

I could be totally wrong here , it wouldn't be the first time .

    Cheers Mike .
