Wow , these aromatics seem to be a bit of a problem don't they ,
I've creamed the fibre glass tanks with a new Batch to cover up the old 3M product that jabiru used to coat their tanks with.
This new stuff is supposed to be impervious to alcohol , ethanol , additives , but maybe not tolulean .?
Caltex says tolulean desolves rubber ?
Yet they put in their fuel !

Maj , thanks for that , in my set up I have two separate fuel systems . The SDS has two 100 micron filters , one befor the pump and one after ,Please be carefull folks installing multiple fuel filters. Extra filters can increase the load on fuel pumps, and interfere with gravity - feed systems.......................Maj...The other is throttle body injection low pressure , runs of facet pump x 2 and also has two 100 micron filters , one before , one after ,
I did think about what you've mentioned ,
And because I've added the extra filter on each wing tank , ill be doing a flow test , both gravity flow & pumped flow ,
I guess the problem can arrise
when the first filter becomes partially full of gunk and starts to strain the pump and starve the engine of fuel .

There the Pro Flow in line 100 micron stainless steel element that screws apart for cleaning & reuse ,G'day Mike, out of interest; is the filter a paper element type??
Running the SDS fuel injection at 40 psi .
I've just installed the ryco filters out of both wing tanks , so I can keep a visual on the contence in the filter , before the fuel gets to the sump , filters & pumps

I would have thought that the moisture would have already evaporated on a hot engine if the o/t were 85 c +One of my habits of putting an aircraft away after flying is loosen and lift oil dipstick to allow any moisture in oil to evaporate and after the plane is packed up I replace and do up dip stick. The condensation comes back as the engine get cold, ie during a cold night

I have left a message querying the high price , ill see what he says on Monday and then if not satisfied with his answer ill do as you sayIf it has not been posted yet, ask to cancel the order and for a refund.Use the ebay message system.I take it you paid with paypal. If they refuse, you can still return it for a refund under the paypal/ebay system.
You will need to return it at your cost and registered but I think it would still be worth it.
I,ve sold semi-professionaly for a couple of years, so know a bit about the system.
In your message, make sure you state you will be returning it for a refund if they do send it and you would be unhappy with their service. Be polite butfirm and do not threaten.
Thanks
Cheers

No it didn't , I did a double drain check , but no sign of that creamy crud that was in an around the filter ,Thats no good Mike. Did the fuel check show up anything before your flight?I've drained and flushed the whole system , two wing tanks and sump tank three times until clear ,
I've also pulled the throttle body apart to check that those fine holes were ok , they were fine .
I pulled the sump tank out and have re sealed it , so it's back together tomorrow and have another go ,

Small world Bex , brings back memories , morooduc quarry , mt Eliza boy ,You obviously haven't been to Moorooka (Brisbane) lately. But anyway, they will just take up skateboards, dirtbikes, Playstations etc etc and all the other alternate toys now available since the 70's.I had zero exposure to planes in my schooling late 60's thru 70's btw, was all about cars and dirtbikes for our area (Mornington Peninsula) and seeing as how many great riders and drivers came out of the area it must have had an effect.

Gee , that sounds a bit excessive for a 3300 . Those figures would indicate full power on take off & climb out .I reckon the "120 knots at 20 litres per hour" means " choose one.." The misery meter on 24-7595 says I burn around 35-40 litres per hour to get 120 knots . Around 2850 rpm. I am now thinking of both mods.... although it is starting first go at the moment..... . Not after a night out freezing usually. Cold start kit first then......regardsMarcus
For 2850 should be reading about 22 ish lt/hr
Sure your taco is ok ?
Full throttle should give 138 knts ish depending on hight above sea level
Somthing doesn't sound right ! Have you calibrated your fuel flow , hrs flown , fuel used ect. ?
Cheers Mike

I've got a 200 lt avgas drum with an electric pump & aviation filter , it's been emty for a while but I'm now going to fill it with the Jerry can fuel I get from the servo ,
I've been slack and have just trusted the fuel and up till yesterday and have just loaded the fuel direct to the tank .I've never had a problem ,just goes to show how these things can bite you when you least expect it !
I'm filtering all the fuel from now on .

The colour of my crud was like cream ,I recently had an incident after fuelling out of a friends 20 ltr containers, while visiting a friends property. We had fuelled the cans at a local Bp with 98 octane. After take off I noticed what I initially thought were ants being circulated in my glass fuel filter bowl, which is visible in-flight in the Lightwing. Initially there were quite a few "ants" being circulated, but then the number decreased and the flight went normally. Afterwards I noticed a bit of crud in the bottom of the bowl and removed it for a look-see. What I thought were ants was in fact small droplets of an oily dark substance. My friend said the cans were clean, so we put it down to the servo. The fuel had been filtered through my Mr Funnel when we put it in my plane...............Maj...Rod R rang caltex this morning and the outcome was that this was water mixed with premium unleaded , this was news to me , I always thought that water wouldn't mix ,
I'm going home tonight to do a test and see if I can make cream out of water & pulp !
Ill let you know the outcome .

That's good advice Maj , I two have 4 vetabray fused together after a car accident when I was 20 . I've been on chronic pain management for the past 15 years due to defered pain , but keeping fit and active is the key to a normal life ,Steve, On the subject of broken backs, I also suffered two crushed vertebrae in a plane crash in 1974. It is painfull, and Probabily will be for some years to come, and unfortunately something you will have to carry for the rest of your life.Any vertebrae damage these days is called a "broken back".. However if your back was really 'broken' you'd be at least in a wheel chair, or dead !.....Additionally my damaged vertebrae weren't treated correctly at the time, because other injuries I had took priority . Had to half sit up where I should have been laying flat on a board for my back. It took a good twelve months before I was considered fit, and
then did several hundred more skydives, which was my life at the time.(early/mid 20s) If thats not a good workout for a back, nothing is !!!....In the process my two injuried vertebrae 'fused' together, which is one way the back goes about strengthing itself after injury. A recent back X-ray shows I now have three 'fused' vertebrae .
On the very positive side, and this is ment to be a positive contribution for you, I never have really suffered any significant pain from my injury, and it never has really stopped me from either skydiving, or flying over the years, after the initial healing period.
Key is to let it heal properly initially ,(took me 1-2 years when I was young) and then commit to leading a normal life, and staying fit.
If you lead an inactive life and slouch on the couch watching TV your back will let you know.
Best of luck mate with your initial healing........Maj...
After the prang , two years next week , I got quite unfit due to broken sternum and the what , and it took about 8 months before I could get active again , started on the chain saw cutting fire wood ! Worked wonders ,
Thinking of you ,
Cheers mate

Where can you buy them ?Mr funnel has excellent filtration an a sump. You waste a little bit of fuel usually buy that's a small price to pay. They come in3 sizes. I have a small one in the aircraft at all times.LaurieMike

I had an engine failure after take of yesterday
Lots of crud had gloged the fuel filter ,
I'm going to pre filter all Mogas from now on .
It was BP 98 , port Augusta
Landed ok with back up fuel system that hadn't been used so the filters were clean enough ,
But still had crud in them ,
Cheers for now

Hi Steve , hope you get well soon ,
Bad day today 1 st August ,
I took off at 9 am for an hour of flying ,
300 ft and the engine quit , lucky I've got duel fuel , after the initial shock I switched over to the multipoint SDS fuel inj. And the engine sprang back to life ,
Upon examination I found dirty fuel BP 98 that I got from port Augusta , clogged the fuel filter ,
I drained all the fuel and was amazed at how much crud was in the system ,ill be filtering all the Mogas from now on !
I think there is a bad Bach of fuel out there ,
I don't know the cause of your engine failure ,
But IDE be looking pretty close at the fuel ,
My engine just stopped suddenly without warning ,
The neighbors were at the next property with the sheep and heard me take off and then silence , I pretty quickly turned around and landed ,
I got a phone call tonight after them hearing on the news about your forced landing , they thought it might have been me ,
I'm really sorry to hear about your injuries ,
It's still all to real for me , it's comming up to two years since my prang ,
Where are you now ? In port Augusta hospital , or have they taken you to adalaide ?
If I can be of any assistance now or in the future , don't hesitate to contact me
Cheers and thank goodness , it could have been worse .

600kgs , like every thing else ,Even the Jab230 has only 230kg useful. 300kg would make all the difference. But it isn't possible in our current regulatory environment. The Avocet looks good, but isn't it limited to 600kg with RA Aus?It was designed for the 760 kg weight increase that didn't happen ,but there's always GA EXPERIMENTAL .
Cheers Mike
-
That's what I set out to achive with the Avocet , good payload , 2 seater MTOW 700kg
Empty 394 kgs .
If I could only relocate the engine to the front ,but doing so makes it to big for Raa aus
Rego ,
It's got potential as an amphib but with the current climate , doesn't get one to excited about spending the doe needed to develop it ,there's not much in the way of grants to develop in the aviation sector ,
You know if I was developing an app for smart phones there seems to be plenty of cash available ,!
Cheers Mike

Gees Old man , I know by having read many of your posts over the years that you have a way with words , that last post almost had me tearing up ,
I think it may be time to write a book or two , don't laugh , I've givin this advice before , and it only takes a gentle nudge sometimes to get the ball rolling ,

I've had a good run with BP 98 for a number of years , I think this last 40 lts I put in must have been contaminated somehow .
When I get my Mr F ill be using it at the pump before it goes into the Jerry can
Cheers .
