She's a clever one, indeed!

They're looking great, Ian!

Looks like fun, Ronny! I would love to visit Sweden one day.
You're friend in the back seat certainly did get the ride of his life!
-
I'm going to guess that it was something like this: http://gopro.com/cameras/hd-motorsports-hero-camera/Nice Video Ronan, what kind of camera was that and what kind of lens, you could tell it was wide angle but how wide?DavidIt has a 127° angle of view.
Great stuff!

Thanks Jake! Yeah, I saw that you're now following it - Cheers!Nice post! You may or may not have noticed that I followed your blog, you should expect more poss from me come July!Perhaps there should be a thread where all members who keep blogs regarding flying can post links to them...It's a great idea about the blog announcements. You should let Ian know, I'm sure he'll be keen for it.
I'm looking forward to reading about your training experiences.

Ha! I think my Wife would tell me the same, however if I was to ever have a chance at owning a plane I'd have to build her a bedroom-sized walk in wardrobe!I was looking at building or getting a plane that needed repairing but my dear wife has said that if i want a plane it has to be factory built (I don't think she trusts me to finish a build)I believe they're great value for money, look nice and fly nicely. Have you considered a J160? There's plenty of them going at good prices now!

Thanks Glassair! Much appreciated!Nice blog Evan, what a top day you had. Thanks for sharing, keep em coming.....
Thanks David, I look forward to seeing yours!Nice shots. That would have been a very enjoyable flight. I hope to get some similar shots this winter, when I'm not stuck underneath it.
Gee that would suck! At least you had sizzling meats to make you feel a little better...I recall a couple of times we ended up having a local BBQ when we couldn't see the runway, to go to the one that was planned:-( One of the days, the fog didn't lift all day! -
I had an amazing morning flight the other day. Blankets of fog as far as the eye could see (but thankfully no where near the aerodrome!).
Check it out with many more pictures and a short video here.
Cheers!

Hey Pete,
Just for interests' sake, can I ask what reasons are making you look at the 170 presently?
-
I love flying the J160. Haven't had a chance to fly the J170 yet, but I'd love to give it a go if the opportunity came up!
-
I have said 2, because it's a foregone conclusion that my Dad will join RA-Aus.
At the moment he's in the process of reinstating his PPL after a 30-odd year break. He's using a family friend's Cessna 210 (a very kind offer!)
However, even though he's only paying for fuel (one very thirsty plane!) the costs are very high and the CASA red tape is crazy. So he's thinking of trying out a J-170. It would work out cheaper to pay for hire and fuel in the Jabiru than just fuel for the 210!

Could it be because prolonging the hold off may cause problems if there are unpredictable winds present? That's what I remember from 30 years ago when I was only a PAX. But now when flying this is discouraged. Why? What am I missing?

Sorry Nev, didn't want to be a smarty-pants! I just wanted to make sure I understood it correctly. To the two observant chaps, who noted the speed/weight relationship. Yes it doesn't READ right. I thought it did, but it doesn't. I meant the heavier weight has the higher stall speed, ( as it always will). and it ( the weight) is significant as a percentage. ( I have now edited it)..
I'm quite used to very little float at the best of times in the J160 with it's stubby little wings. Although I haven't yet compared it to anything else, I'm told regularly that when I finally move to the J230 or the J170 to be prepared for a lot of float. If you allow a few knots extra when your plane is heavy, you won't get it falling out of the sky as much when you flare. Conversely if you are very light take a few off and you won't float all the way down the strip.
Yep! As someone that was quite ground-shy during my training, I certainly will!Watch for that sink...it raises it's ugly head now and then, and usually when you least expect it !..............................Maj...Don't worry, I rekon you've sewn some powerful seeds regardless, Maj! I wish I was taken for a TIF when I was a teenager!
-
That's what I would have thought, too...Nev, Im sure you meant to say the stall speed MUST be lower in the example you described. -
One day I'll fly a four seater! One day!The same applies to aircraft that are equipped with rear seats, which are often well behind the Cof G. If they are not occuppied, you need more back stick to hold the nose up, when flaring to land. -
After I've done with my mags, I give them to a friend of mine who is a GA student pilot. He hasn't been able to fly for ages because of the crippling GA costs, so I've been working on him to come visit our school and go for a TIF in a Jabiru. The magazines are helping to convince him, however I'm on the verge of my Pax endorsement, so I might be taking him up for a local scenic flight myself soon! That will really light a fire under him!
-
Hehe... Yep! Been doing that.Do it on video and throw out the bad ones. If you are really bad you could get a fill-in pilot who can fly and paste a cutout image of yourself in the side window.
I'm trying to be as consistent as possible. I'm told that 'no two landings are the same', but I'm attempting to make the touchdowns as similar as I can each time.Anyhow landings are only one part of flying a plane. Consistently doing FAQ arrivals that are controlled is better than fluking good ones when you feel good, or the gods are with you, (squeekers, like a cat pissing on glass) and then doing a shambles of a semi controlled crash at other times.
That sounds awesome, Nev. All I need is a grass strip! :thumb_up:The way I like to teach them to students, is to fly level with the ground so that the grass brushing the wheel spins it up to speed and then lower the plane gently the last 1/2 inch, with the stall warning blowing. Once they get the basics they can polish it up later. NevI'll give it a try one day when I get to fly from a true grass runway.
-
Yes!!! That is also very true (for me at least!)hahahaha...that...and you can never make another greaser while they are watching!!! -
Whenever you actually do that perfect 'greaser' landing, no one is watching!

I noticed that too!I like how the instructor uses the student as a pad to sign off the airworthy inspection and gets the student to wash the plane by herself... -
New Jabiru
in Jabiru
There's a TBM 700 that flies from our aerodrome. He has TCAS. He can move very fast. I like that he can see me before I can see him....

New Jabiru

Even though I don't venture into controlled airspace, I like the small comfort of the faster commercial aircraft being able to 'see' me on their TCAS when I switch the transponder on.

I liked it overall. It's a good first effort. Maybe the new editorial staff will settle in to their new project.
The main things that annoyed me for this first issue were:
1) I like looking at ads - seeing all the wonderful stuff I might be able to afford one day, however TWO double pages just for ads is a bit cheeky!
2) If I was selling in the classifieds and I saw the picture(s) I provided cropped so heavily that one can't even see whether it has spats or winglets, I'd be very disappointed!
