  1. ...As long as your Dad wants to go up then take him! It is his decision and nobody else's......Going with "your boots on", doing something you absolutely love doing, has a lot to recommend it over rusting away in a nursing home....

    I agree with Don.

I'm very much looking forward to flying with my Dad. It's something that I've wanted to do since I understood what an aeroplane was and the fact that he could fly them.

  2. Evan,If you look at page 13 of the May/Jun magazine the offer is in there and page 70 of the Jul magazine shows you the winner of the gear for Jul.

Ah ha! Thanks Steve, it appears that I forgot about that little article right at the end. I must have stopped after directly after reading the candidate statements! 031_loopy.gif.e6c12871a67563904dadc7a0d20945bf.gif

Maybe your first passenger flight recently shown on this website should be submitted?

Hehe. I might do that. I've been hanging out for the latest issue so I know the email address to send some contributions I've got.

  3. Received mine yesterday! 017_happy_dance.gif.8a199466e9bd67cc25ecc8b442db76ba.gif

It is a genuine improvement on the first issue! The flow between articles and ads was a lot better, the members' market is huuuuuge, and overall I think it is a great advertisement for the Recreational Aviation movement. Congrats team, and t hanks for listening to the feedback. I look forward to the 'perfect' issue! 022_wink.gif.2137519eeebfc3acb3315da062b6b1c1.gif

  4. I may try some flapless landings...

They're great fun, and can be quite different to flapped approaches. I was told to remember three things when doing flapless landings:

    • With less drag, power changes can have a marked change in airspeed. One has to reduce the revs quite a bit to slow down, yet not much of an increase in engine speed will increase your airspeed quickly.

    • Your approach angle will be slightly shallower.

    • When it comes time to flare the aircraft is already close to the landing attitude, so there is no need for a really pronounced flare. Overdoing it may result in tail strike!

  5. No landing fees at Ballarat - hopefully Ballarat City Council don't get that idea (They own/operate the airport).

    Hear, hear!

My J120 is still for sale and seeing I lost my job I'm very motivated to convert to cash- run it for $48/hr yourself, why not syndicate with a few friends and you'll never get cheaper flying?

Sorry to hear about your job news, Ballpoint! I'm working on the GoodLadyWife regarding the aircraft procurement situation. Alas, no dice at the moment. 052_no_way.gif.ab8ffebe253e71283aa356aade003836.gif 051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

Horsham just had a price riseWet J120 Solo $80 J230 $100 not sure about dual

Wow! That's cheap! Bec, you're lucky! Maybe I should go for a drive and visit sunny Horsham?

  6. Congratz Evan! A guy at the aero club said there's two flights you will always remember - your first solo and your first passenger. I hope your wife enjoys it as much as you do! (My eldest son has put his hand up for first - with four kids I'm going to be doing alot of joy flights when the time comes) 080_plane.gif.36548049f8f1bc4c332462aa4f981ffb.gif

I'm quite sure that she did enjoy it! I'm also quite sure your son will love it too. How old is he?

You should bring Mel down to the Marsh for a short trip. Cup of tea/coffee and a biscuit will be available. :)

    Hi Linda (and Brian!),

I'd love to come for a visit! Thank you for the very kind invitation!

Unfortunately I'll have to wait until I start my nav training. I think The 'Marsh is just outside my 25NM world at present... :-( The minute I'm able to, you will certainly have a visitor!

    Cheers,

    Evan

  7. Thanks everyone!

Now you just have to convert her to flying herself. Its great to be able to say "we are both pilots"

Hehe Bec! That would be awesome. I've offered for her to learn, but she's happy with being a passenger for now!

I take it from the smiles that she did like it (you dont say in your post)

Hey Steve, yes - she did love it! She was looking around at the lights from above. I just wish I had enough light left to fly over our house and stuff, too! Oh well, there's always next time!

Well done Evan, now your wife has yet another reason for never leaving you.Love for each other and the love of flying ...UNBEATABLE.

Alan Marriette (married over 50 years).

    Congrats, Alan. Good stuff! 012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif

  8. Just got back from taking my wife Mel up for her first circuit. I couldn't go further because the already dim overcast light today was going to fade fast and I didn't want to push the envelope. It was more a ceremonial flight, and also to see how she'd like it.

    All smiles!

Yay! 012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif I've been waiting for this day for a year!

Full story here, if you wanna!

  9. Hey David, welcome!

Don't worry, I had trouble coming to terms with this landing business. Having the ground coming up towards me at 130 km/h made me nervous, but I found decent videos on YouTube and watched late final to touchdown bit over and over until I was de-sensitised a bit. Worked for me! 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif
