  1. Yeh Phil. I to am getting mighty sick of Thieves. I'm getting posts almost daily from someone I know ( incl my bro). Having items( cars) stolen. Houses broken onto. Ect. Just last year middle of day whilst home had a fella wonder threw my hangars .. Took tools and full jerrycan. Herd him as he was leaving. Ran out there and stopped him and he says he was just here to see if I wanted to sell an old bomb car I have out the back? I said no and he drove off.. Went out back. And the bomb car had all doors open and bonnet and some items missing, went out to hangar and found tool box gone , loose tools gone and the full jerry can I only sat there a couple hours earlier gone... Went for fly later looking for the old eb white falcon sedan red pin stripe but to no avail...... Didn't here him as that day aircon was blowing blocking out outside noise. But saying that we have a massive sign stating " Ring Bell". And wasn't rung! Installed camera ;).

  2. Whoo, gonna be lumpy flying tomorrow, 35°C.

Both myself in my lightwing and a friend in his diamond left dents in our roofs from an un exspected severe down draught over the rangers. Reckon the hand of god smacked us down with all his might.lol Thankfully the wings stayed on. Have fun riding themz bumps

  3. Great to hear. Any photos or details around no and type of planes? Unfortunately I could not make it today.

Does a bear s$&t in woods ? Of coarse , I was snapping like croc chasing a chicken ... Lol.

I won best RAG'N'TUBE with my mighty Lighty... Was an awesome day.

  4. I have no battery in my nieuport ! And I am a display pilot flying my ww-1 replica x-country to get there.. It cost me $400 to buy a battery powered hand held including external arial and extension cable plus the push to talk.

It works a treat and battery last over 8 hrs :). I can then use it in my other 3 95-10 which have no radio. 1 radio does 3 planes. Love it . Didn't break the kitty either ;)

  5. Also remember there is right hand circuits if using 23 or 13. If you know where Gawler Dam is, this is the preferred inbound point too.

Thanks guys Event organisers are the Mccolls with their " flappy bird " ATC Patrick Normoyle is meeting me ( pre arranged ) at lyndoch for breaky cuppa's then flying over. Organiser is posting pilot notes for landing and 10am landings is preferred at latest.

  9. Hey Tim. Didn't I read, hear, (imagine perhaps??) somewhere recently that you also had a Wheeler Scout in your early birds collection? If not and you're mad enough, I have a line on one (no idea of which version) that could possibly be extricated from long term storage for very little (if any) folding green. Over to you. All the best for the New Year. cheers

Hey Riley, yes I was trying to get hold of a scout. ( my fav U/L) and was offered parts to build 1 out of but fell threw :(

  10. It's the bulky and draggy exhaust system as well as the radiators that make the two strokes so messy to install and ugly on the aircraft. The time will come soon if it isn't upon us now where the unsupported not available new, engines will be made of a collection of pretty tired parts, where you might build one good one out of three dead ones. The cranks are built up and if you get that done make sure it's done properly. Nev

It is upon us now Nev!!!!! I gave up on looking here and over seas for a 277 rotax. But have found the Aerochute engines are perfect for my invader project.

  11. Firstly the 582 including it's water cooling system is actually lighter by 200 grams than a 503... The 503 fan, dual carb dual ignition is the heaviest Rotax 2 stroke . I bought a brand new a Rotax 582 from bert a floods last year at a cost of $8000 for my lightwing. And I then had them rebuild the 503 for my nieuport at a cost of $ 6500.

It wasn't until after I had the 503 rebuilt that Gary at bert flood told me the 582 fully loaded was lighter than the 503. How ever I wouldn't want any ugly radiators hanging out the nieuport so still happy with rebuilding the 503.

    I did my certificate In A 582 thruster T500 and have flown a t300 With 503.

I agree the climb was better with 582. But cruise was pretty much the same and the 582 used more fuel. !

As far as 582 cooling problems that was actually the 532. NOT the 582!

582 is a great engine but IMO. 503 hands down is the best 2 st. Out there.

    Hope that helps.

And don't forget if it's 25 rego... You need an E/O. To change from 503 to 582...

  12. image.jpg.04732c39e6bfe24b5a931197da9a6420.jpg Well it's well underway with 14mins and 30 secs of the movie completed...

"the Diary of Jack Flyer " based on my book

I now have 6 RAG'N'TUBE ultralights for movie ( that's what I tell the wife);) ( only 1 is not mine -maxair drifter).

    I own :

    Lightwing LW-1 no4. 1987 Fully rebuilt

nieuport 11.C.1. 1916 Replica fully rebuilt

chinook Replica circa 1983 fully rebuilt

WintonJackaroo 1982. In middle of rebuild

invader MK 2. 1982. Yet to start rebuild

A review of the 14 mins by an old school ultralighter proved very exciting with the reviewer inspired to drag out his old thruster :). Mission accomplished

I know I won't make $$$$ but I don't care... I want to do it to pass on my passion, inspiration, to show you can achieve the impossible dream..

There is truly no words to describe flying minimum aircraft .Romantic? Majestic? Death defying? Unforgiving?

It excites your every senses and no more than when your lined up and about to take flight in a single seat aircraft you've never flown . The unknown and the what ifs plague you as you open the throttle.

Seriously they fly unlike the lightwings and Jabies etc we now mostly fly. They are slow, dragy, more manoeuvrable( back yard flyers) and more fun than you can imagine.

I'm not knocking the bigger HP planes , don't get me wrong. But for pure minimum flying fun nothing compares. Also I enjoy the low maintenance and cheap costs of the ol 2bangers. He he he

Here's some pics. There's a before and after pic of the chinook replica I just rebuilt ( during and for film ) along with my other current aircraft . Stay tuned and stay safe

  13. All....happy you are enjoying the book. It was my pleasure to help Tim edit the book after another had done a quick proof read. There were a lot of spelling / grammer mistakes corrected the long hard way with Tim and I comparing notes for around three weeks. The mistakes/ spelling errors that were left in we thought added to the rough, quick nature of a rough and quickly written diary by a country gentleman. The book may not have happened if we hadn't moved it along as we did in an attempt to get it for Avalon..( which didn't happen). Both Tim and I spent many valuable hours on getting it to you, which neither of us had to spare. I am personally overjoyed to have helped Tim and to now see the book in print.

During the layout process by the printer they wanted more bucks to re- edit the book after also noting some mistakes. Tim and I agreed 'stuff em' it adds to the character of the hole ( whole !) story........:).....sorry. Hope you all agree !...

    Thanks again mate. RIP Maj...

  14. So how's the rebuild going? Just finished techair's old girl and she a beauty

Test flown last week after her 14 year rest. Perfect.

Sorry no pics :). You'll have to wait for the movie. As it's done up as part of the movie :). She is done up into something very special and unique ;)

  16. The smaller the engine =the lighter the plane =the bigger the bump...

Although the lightwing( with all that wing area but heavier) is far worse than the nieuport

Engine wise 35 degrees for both my air cooled and water cooled 2t planes 40-65 hp less in the VW engine 30 deg...

    Also depends where you fly.

Just ask anyone who has flown here. Lmao.

Just last week had a pilot tell me he flew here( WX 10kts nrthly 32deg cels)

    I mentioned I didn't here him?

He commented he dare not fly lower than 1500 as " geez you got some rough air at yours". Lol

If I had a dollar for every time a pilot says that"

Waiting for a glider pilot to fly over and tell me how awesome the air is here;)
