Just being there for people is important, and possibly the only thing you can do. Commiserations.

Reported on ABC news here:
Mentions "burnt out remains". No word on condition of pilot or if there were other occupants. Hope everyone is OK.

Me too. I'm glad to hear the news about cannibalism etc. Couldn't help notice that this was posted by someone from Gawler!

The battery on my MT410G PLB expires next month and I'd like to send it back to GME for a refurb, but it's a "dangerous good". I looked on the Australia Post website and couldn't get a clear answer on whether they would ship it. I asked at my local PO and the lady said she had no idea. I emailed GME who referred me to their website, which I'd already looked at, saying I should consult my courier about shipping it. A useless answer.
No-one can tell me the answer. How do I ship my PLB back to GME in Sydney? Thanks.

There has never been a particular need for one in humans until now, so no money to develop one. My understanding is that vaccines are used against coronaviruses in other animals (much cheaper to develop and test I imagine).
Immunologists are predicting that multiple different vaccines will be successful out of the 100+ under development.
In the last few days I think 2 different vaccines have reported success in phase 1 trials - no safety concerns identified, and antibodies produced against the virus.
Yes, there are good vaccines against canine coronaviruses. There will be a vaccine, or probably many vaccines, against SARS-CoV2. The questions are: when? how effective? how durable will the immunity be?

No one knows how one will react in a pressure situation, smoke in the cockpit
Not necessarily. I've had smoke in the cockpit. I know how I react.

MODERATOR WARNING.
If you keep referring to the COVID-19 virus as "ChiCom" or "Chinese Virus" you can expect to be given a time out for offensive behaviour.
COVID-19 is the disease. The virus is SARS-CoV-2.

lost rudder control?

Another parallel to consider. Didn't a bunch of retreads who survived Honda CB750s Z1s and GS1000s come back after their kids left and write off things like K1200RS ( ssses) and ZZRs in the 1990s?
Is it possible a bunch of retirees are getting back into flying under similar circumstances?
its an open question
speak for yourself; mine was a 900SS.

The jab I fly was flown by another pilot into a SWER line. Luckily it missed the prop and snagged the undercarriage. The jab came to a sudden stop on the ground, with not too much damage. One pole was bent, on the other it ripped an insulator off. So I'm told. Still flies fine.

Hi Alf,
thanks for passing that on. I hope he makes a 100% recovery.
-
Is there any news on the condition of the pilot?
-
Is any detailed info available on this pilots habits?
As he's in the ICU, it's unlikely that he'll repeat his mistakes, whatever they were.

A few weeks ago I spent an hour flying over Puget Sound, Washington State, in a C152. Today I spent an hour flying the jab at Murray Bridge, practicing side slips. Great fun.
-
Without taking anything away from the student, it's a darn good thing it was a C152. Lots of planes are harder to land.
I hope the instructor makes a full recovery.

There was a move in SA about 25 yrs ago to move to eastern states time. It wasn't popular. People are very proprietorial about their time zones. Personally I think Australia could run on 2 time zones, eastern, inc SA and NT, and western. But it will probably never happen.

I was in the US last week so I hired a C152+instructor (US$125+50/hr) from Glacier Aviation in Olympia Regional Airfield, Tumwater, WA, and flew north along Puget Sound. Stunning scenery. Rich, the instructor, was fantastic, friendly, helpful, and professional. As usual the C152 was a piece of cake to land; I wish the jab was as easy. But the C152 is a slug compared to the LSA/55.

My wife and I once pulled a woman from a car that had been in accident, was upside down and the engine was revving like crazy. We got her out just as it caught fire. Then the cops arrived and said move on, move on, so I've no idea of how she did. My wife, a clinician, thought she had a fractured skull, but she was speaking to us. Sometimes you just have to get people out.
-
now states the occupants (a man and a woman) are in a stable condition.

Some thread drift here. We don't know why the Jab crashed.
