  1. The battery on my MT410G PLB expires next month and I'd like to send it back to GME for a refurb, but it's a "dangerous good". I looked on the Australia Post website and couldn't get a clear answer on whether they would ship it. I asked at my local PO and the lady said she had no idea. I emailed GME who referred me to their website, which I'd already looked at, saying I should consult my courier about shipping it. A useless answer.

No-one can tell me the answer. How do I ship my PLB back to GME in Sydney? Thanks.

  2. There has never been a particular need for one in humans until now, so no money to develop one. My understanding is that vaccines are used against coronaviruses in other animals (much cheaper to develop and test I imagine).

Immunologists are predicting that multiple different vaccines will be successful out of the 100+ under development.

In the last few days I think 2 different vaccines have reported success in phase 1 trials - no safety concerns identified, and antibodies produced against the virus.

Yes, there are good vaccines against canine coronaviruses. There will be a vaccine, or probably many vaccines, against SARS-CoV2. The questions are: when? how effective? how durable will the immunity be?

  3. I was in the US last week so I hired a C152+instructor (US$125+50/hr) from Glacier Aviation in Olympia Regional Airfield, Tumwater, WA, and flew north along Puget Sound. Stunning scenery. Rich, the instructor, was fantastic, friendly, helpful, and professional. As usual the C152 was a piece of cake to land; I wish the jab was as easy. But the C152 is a slug compared to the LSA/55.

  4. My wife and I once pulled a woman from a car that had been in accident, was upside down and the engine was revving like crazy. We got her out just as it caught fire. Then the cops arrived and said move on, move on, so I've no idea of how she did. My wife, a clinician, thought she had a fractured skull, but she was speaking to us. Sometimes you just have to get people out.
