It’s definitely not as easy as it looks, as a checkie I get the second officers with a total of 250 hours for their first 12 sectors after ground school, simulator conversion & base training, thats 12 sectors on revenue flights, the main problem area for them is below 200ft, i.e. fear of ground rush, not maintaing the aim point & wanting to land outside of the touch down zone, late or now flare & trying to put the landing gear through the wings due aim point fixation or over flaring & ballooning as the select idle thrust, so there’s a very small window to correct the errors or take over, at least in the airbus we have auto thrust, add the workload of manual thrust into the equation & its not going to be pretty, fortunately most get it but some don’t & have to find another line of work, so expecting your average PPL to land it MMMMM.

Pearo & Geoff you're teasing me, have not done any REAL flying since June:crying:

Great photos PommyRick, how did you get that big passenger ship to disappear in photo 1 & 3.

So stay below cloud & in the circuit & land, why would you want to fly on a crapy day you described, good day to tinker in the hangar or spin waries at the aero club.but you are on the ground. looking at low cloud thinking its 1000 ft its really lower than that when you take off- 1
-
How about common sense & a realization that if you take silly risks you will die, its not rocket science, don't fly when the weather is crapy i.e. low cloud & strong winds, even if you can't read a TAF or Metar look out outside & NEVER fly below 500ft agl, even when you are at 500ft study your map for those nasty high tension power lines & radio station antennas, they will ruin your day.

Lesson learned, hopefully all of you with autopilots & sky view EFIS will think twice about flying IMC when not qualified, or ridge running.

I always go onto the Bad Elf web site, they put out statements reference the status of apple updates & if they affect their product, the system I use is similar, so to answer your question, its a GO.

I dragged this comment of mine form a previous thread.
"Guys I'm going to comment with my Instrument Rating Examiners hat on, "don't get yourself into a situation where you may go IMC even for a short time," even if you have all that sky view stuff fitted to your a/c you will kill yourself, it's only a matter of time, no one mentions icing conditions eg OAT on the ground or TAT in the air of 10 degrees or less, I know most RAA a/c have no pitot heating, once IMC what then, what's the MSA or GRID MORA that you are going to decent to to get VMC again? if you loss situational awareness what then, are you in a position that you can declare a MAYDAY in a radar environment & get radar vectors to cloud break etc, if in a non radar environment you're ####ed, it's only a matter of time before you smear yourself & pax into the ground, at least spend your money on a BRS rather than having all these displays & thinking your capable & qualified to us them."

Just looking at the AVGAS prices on Ozrunways, now that oil is approaching US$28 a barrel or about 75% lower than its hey day the average AVGAS price has only gone down 5% in AUD, taking into account the plummeting value of the AUD its still a rip off.

Way back in the early 80's I flew the Tiger Moth at the RNAC, when doing the conversion I was taught their way of swinging the prop for an engine start, you would stand behind the prop next to the engine bay, with one hand on the hand hold on the engine cowl & the other on the prop, this way even if you slipped you couldn't fall into the prop, image that, they taught (TEM) threat error management & common sense BEFORE it was an official course & subsequent exam. Bring back the 80's were sex was safe (pre AIDS) & flying was fun.

Me too, love my job but could give up the Airbus for the Foxbat tomorrow, just need to win lotto to fund my retirement, only 9 years 8 months 23 days to go.I wish I could retire..- 1

It's NOT SMOG.

To the board of BP, thanks for passing on the price cut to avgas as the price of oil has reduced by around 50% in the last year, gotta love completion, let's hope we see mogas at regional airports soon, i.e. The preferred fuel for Rotax engines.

We just request the latest METAR which is usually updated every 30 mins for enroute alternates or airports you can use as a divert incase of an emergency as well as the DATIS when in the air to build SA (situational awareness), you plan your fuel & alternates on the TAF during flight planning. How big is the printer in commercial airlines that receives the "code" and prints out the latest weather info for pilots? As far as area forecasts go the airlines don't use them.

Just download everything in the Australia region & you will always have the required information available to you, my iPad is wifi only, has never been a problem.

What's the lever with the blue golf ball for?
Nice photos BTW.

There is nothing better as well as pathetic watching a squirming polly grovel & fight for their political survival & keep the noses in the tax payer troff in a marginal seat, they promise the moon, if the same number of greenies can force change so should we.

That's probably why CASA are trying to get their finger in the RAA pie, a revenue source & pilots to administer, my question is the same, with GA on its death bed, "where are all those empty hangar spaces."
Also with over 11,000 voters in our organization why don't we have the pollies i.e. elected officials (BLUNTS in RAAF speak) in our pockets, we should have more clout just like the EAA in the USA.

Search youtube "Airbus stall training" excellent video. the same rules apply to RAA a/c, well maybe the the high Mach stuff.

I'm the same as you, I'm such an aviation nerd I wish they had a camera set up in the workshop so I could see how the build goes.As you can see, I wasn't eager at all !- 1

SrPilot, thats a shame reference all that red tape, I thought the US would of been fairly straight forward being such an aviation friendly country, we are very fortunate in Australia with our importer as everything (paperwork & registration etc) is done by him & you basically arrive & pick up the keys & you're on your way.

Both great a/c, for me the Foxbat is my ride of choice, been in contact with Peter & will be getting my orange wonder in August to coincide with 4 weeks of leave, hope that the next 9 months goes quickly.

Impressive, not my choice, with all that glass & autopilots looks to much like work i.e. trolling the friendly skies, just give me an airspeed indicator, altimeter & compass thank you.

Outstanding result & no other option when flying over a built up area with no large open fields. Personally I have just ordered a Foxbat & am getting the BRS fitted to it, worth it's weight in gold, always nice to have options when things go pear shaped.
