Over the age of 40 your class 2 is valid for 2 years.

Departed Hong Kong this morning for Darwin, a quick tech stop then off to Alice, first time since 1999 that I’ve operated an airliner in Australia, full of mixed emotions, excited to fly here but upset because of the reason, looks like Alice will become the largest airline storage facility in the southern hemisphere

Got to go for a flight today & it felt good, first time since 20FEB20, just a quick 30 min bog lap around the island for an a/c reactivation flight, only a/c in the airspace, it’s sad as Caboolture has more movements than most international airports.

I did get a lap in an F111 once, but due to a translating cowl warning light we weren't allowed to exceed 450 kts.

Excellent, it was always good fun taking pax on famil flights in a jet, hope you enjoyed it & the pilot was kind & looked after you.

Please, only posted for interest, no intention to come across as a wanker, 695kts @ 250’ & M1.6 @ FL400 in a ? nearly 30 years ago.

I did my BFR in a C172 in September last year, emailed a copy of the completed form to RAAus, that’s it, can’t be simpler, your currency record then updated.

A third of the way into my 9th log book over a 40 year period, still fill it out after each days flying or sim, I also have memorable photos in it, tells your aviation story, definitely impressed my interview panel when applying for my current job.

How does paying for a flying qualification GUARANTEE you will graduate?  You can't just say I've paid ... Where's my ticket, although it's been tried and maybe succeeded in some instances where things like political pressure has been applied. There's always the possibility you won't make the grade. Some fail command years after starting with an Airline. Some drop out on a Conversion to a new type. Some fail a recurrent check...Nev

Had a great flight yesterday from Caboolture to Redcliffe peninsular & Samford Valley, one of those stunning Queensland days, only downside was the congestion on the shared Caboolture/Caloundra CTAF frequency, surely if Redcliffe can have a separate frequency so could Caboolture/Caloundra, especially when they share the same r/w 12/30.

Did my BFR yesterday in a C172 which reactivated my PPL, the main reason was to allow me CTA transit especially around Cooly & Coffs, haven’t been in a GA light a/c since 1984, I definitely prefer the performance & handling characteristics of the LSA category which I’ve been flying since 2012, give me my Foxbat ? anytime.

Should be a huge turnout, there were 8 sea planes at Caboolture yesterday on their way up the coast for the event. Have fun.

A lot of pilots use Oz-Runways with their iPads. Maybe a big red warning should flash up if it detects that a pilot is going to bust last light.

 

Or pilots could take responsibility for their own actions & show demonstrate some command & decision making mixed in with a little situational awareness, it called airmanship. It’s not rocket science, ground speed & distance will give you an ETA just like in the days of Wilbur & Orville.

If people want to do Aeros, spins, instrument flying & night flying get you PPL & fly GA, all we can legally do in RAAUS is day VFR, it’s basically that simple.

I’ve attached a post that I wrote in 2015, relevant for instrument or night flying when not qualified or in a suitable a/c. Keep it simple & safe.

I too will be doing my BFR in a VH a/c in September, never had that warm & fuzzy feeling having to fly over tiger country around Cooly, yes I know it’s now Gold Coast these days ? & Coffs, when the transit lane or coastal option was so close yet legally not possible to use.

We flew to Kooralbyn about 12 months ago, I can highly recommend the Valley Kitchen, excellent service & food, pleasant quick trip from Caboolture.

Here’s a great video that talks about both skidding & slipping turns in the stall, explains the aerodynamics of why as well as an actual demonstration of which wing will stall first.

I hope that this is just an unsubstantiated rumor, it’s my goal to do an RAAus instructor rating in a few years time so that I can work part time at a SMALL SCHOOL instructing after I retire from the airlines, the industry has been very good to me & its my turn to give something back.

Yes, Inglewood looks like another nice town just a short walk from a very good air strip, another good destination for that $100 hamburger
