  1. its called air nav vfr by sentient. its very basic, but it does the job, it just uploads your position onto aviation maps and gives you a ground speed. Between that and the gps i have in the plane it does everything i need in the drifter. the only thing lacking is a quick reference for ERSA.
  2. Yeah that's what I have been doing, I was just wondering if there was an sp to make the process a bit easier
  3. Hey guys, I'm wondering if there is a cheap and easy alternative ap to get ERSA on my Iphone other than the big programs like oz runways. I already have a far cheaper program that gives me my maps, and just being in the drifter I really dont need the huge list of features that oz runways has, i would just really like to have access to ersa while in flight. anyone have any ideas?

I personally am not going to try and interrupt the data. I dont know enough, nor do I have any experience translating things like this. Also to its a little to close to home to me to not form a bias opinion. I will let the professionals and those more experienced pass judgment on that. However for what its worth, (while I know the people who where standing on the flight line, I havnt brought the subject up with them. so this isnt from them) I talked with a few others who witnessed the accident from the terminal (i was actually on the phone to someone who watched the incident at the time it happened so also got a live feed) that the plane remained on the ground and instantly went to a near vertical climb up on wheels off. how accurate this is I'm not sure. but this is what i have heard from multiple sources from the minute it happened, and to my understanding has been the common general belief. as i said i can not promise this is correct, i was not there, this is just what i understand to be the case, I only put it out there as i find it interesting that that is exactly what M6A1 read into it. so i thought i would put out there
  5. Ill be there to, would be good to say gday and put some names to faces
  6. ron is doing it in a beech musketeer and they will be full 1000 foot circuits. so there is no trick really just determination
  7. that was a great video mate! do i take it that was you?
  8. Hey guys! my mate Ron watts is attempting to break my take off and landing record on the second of November raising funds for another amazing charity called MAF. hes going for a huge 140 take off and landings which I can vouch from experience is a massive effort! So check out his site and get behind him. MAF does amazing work all over the world and could use your support! www.maf.org.au/flywithron
  9. a client of mine is building a universal hover wing with a 2.5 l turbo boxer engine out of a wrx sti. He crashed one toy so hes using the engine to make another. Universal hover wing think that with that engine it should be able to achieve 200 kmh! now he rekons he can drive this just on a boat licence an is convinced he has looked through all the legalities ad talked to everyone he needs to. but the legalities beyond what he has told me I have no clue.
  10. I think the strip surface is fine.....dont you!? Watch the rudder!
  11. I have the same problems all the time! i have no idea what to do about it. the setting i use is record, thats as far as my go pro knowledge goes! Anytime your about mate say gday! Same to anyone else, Im down in the byron gliding hangar at the eastern end of the strip
  12. thanks for the input there mate, that was very helpful. I certainly agree about the gliding thing, I am a glider pilot myself and the training reinforced by GFA is what has had me so shocked regarding RA AUS. I think I should make it clear hear to everyone however, What I am refering to is in actual fact the incipient spin, not a developed spin, I would never put any aircraft into a full spin without knowing every nitty gritty detail regarding this aircraft and spinning first. Im certainly no Chuck Yeager and am not wanting to be pushing envolopes. I must say however the information you provided regarding the VG's was most interesting. regarding there difficulty going into a spin installed was certainly a consideration I had looked into and clearly found appealing. No one has ever mentioned however there difficulties in recovering from one. I do however find your comments regarding the drifter and spins interesting. by no means am I saying there wrong. I by know means will pretend to have the knowledge to be able to comment in either direction with any form of confidence. Though as mentioned earlier, I was put through spin training in the drifters, and seen many others do it to. I just would have presumed that would have ment the aircraft (certified drifter) must have been certified for it. Also I know that Austflight did quite alot of spin testing on the aircraft, as I think HITC may be able to vouch for. Weather it was then certified for it I guess is another story! referencing back to my training however, while doing a couple of recovery's from very early stages of a developed spin (which while possibly not certified to do so, both the instructor and I, a far better educated student walked away from unharmed), 98 percent of the training was only incipient. So I guess this brings us back to the base question is it legal to practice an INCIPIENT spin in RA outside of being under instruction.
  13. thanks Nev, I don't want anyone to think I'm having any digs here, I really appreciate the input. I certainly understand the risk taken on ones self when doing anything along these lines. I will never pretend that even an incipient spin is a no worries situation. But it is the Legal standing that I am trying to understand, is this legal. as i would rather try and understand the aircraft's incipient spin reaction and recovery in as best controlled environment as I can gather, over trying to suss it out on a low and slow turn at 500 feet with a passenger on board. But I also don't want to be breaking rules
  14. ok, so just getting my head around things and making things clear. The incipient spins I did during my training in this very aircraft was ok. To continue to do them hear and there without an instructor on board. And I really do mean here and there. I can assure this isn't as a hobby or for kicks I really do see it as important practice, is ok. correct?
  15. Hey guys, went up for a spin yesterday and took my go pro, was just playing with some new angles. got a few nice shots including some whales. annoyingly the lens has a scratch on it which sort of ruins the video but theres still some ok shots in there
  16. It has saved my life once when an old farmer took me for a spin when checking dams, He wasn't used to flying 2 pax, and the aircraft started to go into a spin when inspecting a dam. Being a young bloke my reflex's where quite alot quicker, AND HAVING HAD THIS PUNCHED IN OVER AND OVER AGAIN I was able to recover the aircraft in no time without even thinking about it. What could have easily been a double fatal turned into a nothing worth even blinking an eye lid at! hence my passion toward the subject.
  17. Well that does amaze me! I mean I don't know about GA but I know in gliding just the incipient spin is not only encouraged but mandatory practice! it shocks me to think that it is not allowed in RA. a developed spin certainly not! but letting the nose drop off, opposite rudder and central stick. hardly rocket science and could very well save your life one day. How many people are killed world wide by aircraft spinning in! I'm remembering back but I could have sworn I did it as part of my training.
  18. ok guys, question for you! I fitted my Vg's today (with great sucess!) and was doing all my test flying with them on. Lots of take offs and landings, turns shallow and steep ect seeing how it all goes with the changes and all was exceptional. when on the ground I mentioned that I would like to but it through some incipient spins and recovery's to see if there is any changes there when I was up doing my stall testing. A bloke on the ground jumped up and said cant do that mate, its an aerobatic maneuver and your RA. Now fair enough we cant do aerobatics. But practicing spin recovery surely we are allowed to practice that? my intention was to do this well above 3000 feet. and not to maintain any spins, just a boot full of rudder on stall and straight into recovery. VG testing aside, this is ESSENTIAL practice that I think we all don't do enough of. What are your guys thoughts.
  19. this bird is stuffed now his on you tube! casa will hit him for low level no doubt!
  20. yeah ill message them to you now! you missy need to come flying! ill be back soon and well go for a spin edit - sent, let me know if you dont get them
  21. hey emah, talk to russell and casino, last time i was out there he was talking to me about doing work on a radio on an xair out there, so there might be one nice and close to have a look at!
  22. thanks guys!
  23. I have them set up on my aircraft at about 80 percent of what i can really do so I always have a bit up my selves. The best thing about them......is I havn't had to use them!
  24. Ok so there Jab engines havn't had a good track record, I wont pretend to be a fan of them myself, but Im also not going to go into that debate for one reason.....the engine of the aircraft has nothing to do with a pilots ability! doesn't matter what the engine is, that video shows a very young flying instructor doing an exceptional job as a pilot to bring an aircraft in safetly, and an exceptional person putting the welfare of his passenger before anything. And if you do want to play pick on the plane engine, the you will equally have to give credit to the glide ratio and unpowerd flight abilities of the aircraft they where sitting to. I have never met you Doug but a bloody good job! a great example to other young pilots like myself!
  25. thanks mate! will look into it! otherwise is there any progams like oz runways for PC? that will allow you to do all your flight planning ect on your computer I know there used to be but I wasnt sure if they still exist given all the new software
